About Kay Irvin

We live in Morganton, NC and are both retired. We love to travel, and appreciate most when we are able to stay in a place that has a story, and that has a warmth about it that you just can’t find in a hotel. So, we have finally decided to share our cabin with others and hope that everyone will enjoy it as much as we do.

Kay Irvin purchased this cabin in 1985

Why Kay Irvin chose Newland

We purchased the property for this home in 1985 and years later, when our two children were in their pre-teen years, we decided that we should have a family bonding project of building a mountain cabin. What began as a family project has turned into our family haven. We enjoy the opportunity to retreat to this special place, where we relish in being on 'Cabin Time,' a time we can all just sit back and cherish the beauty of the mountains and the company of loved ones.

What makes this cabin unique

This area is to us, the perfect spot. We are all outdoor enthusiasts and this location provides wonderful opportunities for adventures throughout every season of the year; hiking, swimming, skiing, universities, golfing, local southern culture, mountain wineries, biking, rock climbing and being just minutes away from Pisgah National Forest. After playing outside all day, there is nothing quite like coming back to the cabin and enjoying a cup of coffee or glass of wine on the deck, taking in the beautiful scenery.

Wonderful Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Kay's cabin was wonderful for our stay. It was very clean and cozy. The kitchen has everything you need from a crockpot to a coffee grinder. Wish the weather had been nicer on Saturday evening to enjoy the fire pit. Short drive to some awesome hiking trails!

Highly recommend and will stay here again!

We had a very relaxing long weekend. The house was very clean. It has everything you may need if you decide to cook in and the property is well maintained. We enjoyed a local backwoods forestry service road that took us over to the gorge. Very nice ride. I'm sure we will be back. Thank you for letting us use your place.

Great place to relax

  • 5 of 5

This home was a very well-equipped and comfortable place to spend a long weekend (or more), either on the deck, at the fire pit or inside! We will likely return before too long. It also has good access to numerous trails at the gorge. Hint: if you plan to hike, make sure you print detailed trail maps before you leave home as they are not always easy to find and the wilderness trails are not marked with blazes or signage in most cases, and cell phone access is sketchy in many places.

GREAT cabin!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We are so very grateful to have found this cabin.

Our stay was even BETTER than we expected! Cabin was super clean, very well stocked, nice comfortable beds and pillows, beautiful view, delightful sitting area's on the deck, and perfect set up with the two bedrooms upstairs, and the big bedroom/family room downstairs!

Our only complaint - LOL- is we came to look for a place to buy, and we found nothing as nice as this cabin!

What a special place you have! Thank you again Kay and Mike we really enjoyed our stay!

Peaceful secluded cabin

  • 5 of 5

The wife and I can't wait to go back. We went for a long weekend with two other couples. We really enjoyed the kitchen, grill, and the wrap around porch. The cabin is very close to Linville where you can catch live music and great bbq at the Hampton General Store.
