About SuzAnne Miller

SuzAnne Miller, a fourth-generation Montanan, grew up roaming the mountains and fishing the streams of western Montana. Fresh out of high school, SuzAnne became one of the first women to “man” a Forest Service fire lookout by herself.

She met the love of her life, Sterling Miller, at the University of Montana while she was studying forestry and he was studying wildlife biology. After marrying, they joined the Peace Corps and spent three years in Chile.

They returned to the US for graduate school at the University of Washington, where SuzAnne majored in bio mathematics. They then migrated north to Alaska, where they spent more than 24 years in professional posts with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game – Sterling as a research biologist specializing in bear research and SuzAnne as a biometrician involved in research on nearly every species of fish, bird, or mammal in Alaska. SuzAnne's experience included countless field trips, where she fine-tuned her outdoor skills under extreme conditions – including going toe-to-toe with a 1,000-pound sea lion in the Gulf of Alaska.

The Millers' time in Alaska brought fulfilling careers, fantastic adventures across the entire state, and two wonderful sons: Jake (born in 1987) and Mark (born in 1992).

Yet for all the beauty and grandeur of Alaska, Montana retained a strong hold on their hearts – in part because of SuzAnne's love of horses and her desire to return to “horse country.” They bought Dunrovin in 1997 and have since turned the property into a quality Tennessee Walking Horse ranch.

When not introducing Montana to guests, SuzAnne continues to consult with government and private agencies on the human dimensions of managing natural resources. One of her consulting projects, The Montana Challenge, established the link between the health of Montana's natural landscape - its land, water, and wildlife - and Montana's socioeconomic landscape. She has been across the state meeting with public groups to discuss the economic

Why SuzAnne Miller chose Lolo

Dunrovin offers the best of Montana. When we moved back to Montana from Alaska, we wanted it all - great scenery with access to mountain trails and clear rivers, great community with lots of cultural and educational attractions, great outdoor recreation opportunities, and great climate. And Dunrovin has not disappointed. It is only 10 short miles south of Missoula which has been called the Paris of the West because of it active arts community full of authors, dancers, musicians, painters, photographers, theater, and skilled artists in every possible media plus its vibrant commercial hub of shops, restaurants, and the University of Montana.

The Bitterroot Valley is known as Montana's banana belt with its warmer temperatures, moister climate, and rich soils. Fruits and vegetables of all kind thrive in the valley.

This area is within a few miles of hundreds of thousands of acres of wilderness in the Rattlesnake, Bitterroot Selway, Bob Marshall, and the Great Burn Wilderness study area. Known as the Five Valleys, the Missoula area has abundant water and beautiful blue ribbon trout streams and rivers in every direction. Outdoor recreation is a way of life in the part of Western Montana with plenty of trails for mountain biking, skiing, hiking, and horseback riding.

What makes this apartment unique

There are few places in the United States like the Missoula area that can boast the combination of small town friendly atmosphere, incredible mountain and river resources for every kind of outdoor sport, and generally mild weather. No place captures these characteristics better than Dunrovin with it easy proximity to Missoula, yet it rural and wild feel along an uninhabited stretch of the river. Our orchard, garden, river beach with private swimming hole along with our horse riding arena, stalls, and pastures make you feel a million miles away from civilization. Dunrovin straddles these two worlds - the wild and the urban.

Ghost towns, Indian battlefields, national wildlife refuges, stunning mountain lakes, slow meandering streams, class four white water rapids, and endless miles of trails for hiking, biking, skiing, horseback riding are within easy driving distance of Dunrovin. Several hot springs are close by - including remote hot pools along forest streams. The wildlife watching is unsurpassed.
