1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2
Pine View Cottage is a 1 bedroom/1 bathroom home perfect for a couple looking for a peaceful and private retreat in the town of Bodega Bay. The Pine View Cottage has a full kitchen, private fenced patio, barbecue and private hot tub.
The Pine View Cottage is located on scenic Highway 1 at the north end of the fishing village of Bodega Bay, nestled in a pine grove. It sits on a double lot adjacent to it's sister house, the Pine View Bungalow. There is ample parking for your car(s) or boat(s).
Pine View Cottage was converted from a vintage garage and completed in 2014. Upon entering the home, you will immediately notice the beautiful finishes including hardwood floors, skylights, and custom kitchen cabinetry. The living room is furnished with a comfortable sofa and leather chair. Additional amenities include free Cable TV, DVD/CD player with surround sound and high speed wireless Internet.
The bedroom has a queen bed and knotty pine ceiling. You really get the feeling of being inside a yacht. The bathroom is directly across the hall and has a jetted tub and shower combination.
There is a hot water on demand system for the house that provides unlimited hot water (although we encourage water conservation).
The kitchen is fully furnished with gas range, refrigerator and microwave oven. If you don't feel like cooking, you may choose to treat yourself to a great meal at the Michelin rated Terrapin Creek Cafe directly across the street. There's nothing better than walking to dinner - enjoying great cuisine, drinks and dessert - and not having to get in your car!
A private patio runs the length of the side of the house and contains the hot tub, table and chairs and a barbecue.
Also across the street is a kite shop with bins of salt water taffy, several art galleries featuring local artists, a small coffee house, spa, and a cute souvenir and apparel shop.
A short walk will take you to Porto Bodega where you can charter a fishing trip on one of the many charter boats, pick up locally caught seafood, or just explore the harbor and sample some of the best crab and clam chowder on the coast.
There are many recreational activities within a mile of the house, including golf, windsurfing, fishing, hiking, biking, kite flying, beachcombing, kayaking, bird and whale watching. Or you can explore nearby towns, such as Occidental (eat at Negri's restaurant), Freestone (Osmosis Spa is a must) and the Russian River area. Or just take a drive north on Highway 1 along the most spectacular coastline in the world. You won't be disappointed.

About Rebecca Mills
Robert and Diana Mills grew up in Sacramento County and currently live in a house Robert built in El Dorado Hills where they raised their two children. Robert spent many years as a custom home builder, and has built numerous custom homes in the exclusive American River Canyon area in Folsom, California. Robert then had a career change and developed and runs Metro City Soccer, an indoor soccer arena. After raising their children and managing the household, Diana went to school to fulfill her dream and passion for landscape design. She has an innate ability for knowing which plants to use in which location. She is especially good at succulent plant design and has put her design ideas into practice at the Pine View Cottage and Bungalow. Becky (Robert's sister) and husband Kevin Dougherty both grew up in Sacramento County. Kevin has been coming to Bodega since he was eight, and he and Becky spent their honeymoon here. They recently retired from civil service after more than 30 years, and currently live in Fair Oaks, California. Becky likes all things craft, and Kevin is an avid chef and gardener.
Rebecca Mills purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Rebecca Mills chose Bodega Bay
In 2010, Robert and Diana and Becky and Kevin had the wild idea to buy a little 'fixer' house somewhere in the Russian River area, where Diana's family has owned property for over 100 years. After looking at a lot of homes and making offers without success (our realtor almost gave up on us!) Robert and Diana drove to Bodega Bay in the pouring rain to look at a house that was just listed. To make a long story short, they knew the little house and garage at the end of town was 'the one'. Money inherited from our cherished mother, Elizabeth Mills, allowed us to purchase the property in 2010. The house, the Pine View Bungalow, was remodeled and completed in 2011. The garage, now the Pine View Cottage, was gutted and completely remodeled in 2014.
What makes this Cottage unique
The Pine View Cottage sits at the north end of town and shares a double lot with it's sister property, the Pine View Bungalow. Because the lot sits next to open property on all sides, it provides a real sense of privacy. There is a beautiful pine grove at the back of the property. There is ample space for parking cars and recreational vehicles in front. We also love the location for its proximity to all of the art galleries in town and one of the best restaurants in the whole area, Terrapin Creek Cafe, not to mention a nearby golf course and marinas.

Beautiful little cottage !
The cottage was nicely updated, clean, and had all the amenities we needed. We enjoyed spending time here. It was very comfortable, and you could tell that the owner takes a lot of pride in this sweet little rental.
We thank you for the nice review and are happy you enjoyed the house. Hope to see you again.
Charming cottage for a party of two.
The cottage was just as it was listed, with a very clean and well maintained interior and exterior.
We would certainly recommend this property to others.
Great location for exploring the California coast, and not to far from Healdsburg and the wine country.
Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We're really glad the Cottage met your expectations. Hope to see you again.
Very disappointed. If I could give zero stars I would.
Received an email/call the day before arrival to tell us hot tub wasn't working. Arrived to property to find trash can full and trash strewn all over the patio. Spent the first hour cleaning up the patio because it was a health hazard...dirty diapers were spread all over the patio as well as food debris and assorted garbage. Hot tub was not only not working but leaking...patio was wet and had algae, mold. I find it hard to believe the place was cleaned after the last rental with the garbage situation.
The owner gave us her kind permission to bring our dogs. We covered the furniture and bed with the provided sheets. After check out we were told we left an "extreme" amount of pet fur even though we cleaned up thoroughly. While I can believe some dog hair would be unavoidably present even after using rollers and sweeping, I think its obvious given the garbage situation that the rental WAS NOT CLEANED THOROUGHLY AFTER THE PRIOR RENTAL.
I would like my cleaning fee refunded since I had to do the clean up work at arrival. I obviously should have just rejected the condition upon arrival and stayed elsewhere.
I would not recommend staying here.
We take great pride in keeping and maintaining the Pine View Cottage for our guest's comfort, and make every effort to ensure the house is cleaned after every guest and all equipment is in working order. Unfortunately, sometimes there are things out of our control, but we do try to resolve any issues as they arise.
Regarding the spa. A few days before our guest's arrival we were informed by our spa maintenance company that there was a problem with the hot tub. We immediately called a repairman who came out and determined that the problems were not repairable. We then informed the guests of the situation and gave them a substantial discount on the rental rate for their inconvenience. Since then, the hot tub has been replaced.
Regarding dog hair: We do allow dogs and we ask the owners to cover the furniture and beds with provided linens, to vacuum and sweep dog hair, and to pick up and dispose of dog waste. After this guest's departure, the housekeepers informed us that the house was in good condition, but that there was an "extreme amount of dog hair under the comforter and on the pillow shams" on the bed, which required additional cleaning and cost to remove. The guest was informed that a nominal fee would be deducted from the Damage Deposit to cover the extra cost of cleaning and removing the dog hair.
Regarding the trash: We have regularly scheduled garbage pick-up. Unfortunately, the trash collector failed to pick-up on schedule. Our guest informed us (with pictures) that there was a lot of trash on the patio. Apparently, a raccoon had made it's way over the fence and had strewn trash everywhere. The guest informed us he had already picked it up, but we called housekeeping immediately and they came out that day and picked up and removed the trash bags. This is obviously not something we want to happen and we agree that the guest should not have had to pick it up. For this reason we have refunded the security deposit in full.
I rented this property over New Years and could not have been happier. It Is perfectly decorated with very high quality interiors. Normally when I rent a place I take my own bedding and towels but these were certainly not needed at this location. The bed and bedding were extremely comfortable and of very high quality. The bath tub and hot tub were an awesome way to end the days. The kitchen has everything you need and its location just allows you to switch off from the rest of the world and truly enjoy your surroundings. We will most certainly be back and I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing but high quality weekend away.
Perfect getaway for a couple!
Everything about this place was great! I could not have found a more perfect place if I tried. MY wife and I haven't been able to spend any time together in years and this was the perfect spot. Becky bent over backwards to help us! We will never forget what you did for us! You are the best!
Pine View Cottage- Wonderful stay
This gem is tucked away in beautiful Bodega Bay. It has everything provided for a wonderful stay. We even saw a bobcat in the nearby woods. The setting, furnishings and accommodations were beyond our expectations. We enjoyed exploring tidal pools, beaches and hiking on coastal bluffs. We highly recommend this cottage.
Thank you for the lovely review. We are always glad to hear our guests enjoyed their stay. We hope you come again soon!
The Pine View Cottage is located just 1/2 mile from Porto Bodega and 2 miles from Spud Point Marina. It sits directly across Highway 1 from local art galleries, kite/candy shop, coffee house and the Michelin rated Terrapin Creek Cafe.
