About Marci Paddock
Marci and her family moved from California to Hawaii in 2002, following 2 of their sons who were attending Brigham Young University in Laie.
Marci Paddock purchased this Condo in 2002
Why Marci Paddock chose Laie
We purchased this property after seeing it once on our trip to Laie for our oldest sons wedding. It was in ill repair, but had good bones and lots of land! We have enjoyed going from room to room renovating the building and each unit, making it a property that we love and plan to pass down to our children and grandchildren. In 2000 we built a second building on the property where many guests have enjoyed coming for their vacations.
What makes this Condo unique
We love the large meadow that connects to the property. It make our property feel so open and spacious. We can walk over to the meadow and play ball or run around with the kids and not worry about bothering the neighbors. It is so easy to walk across the street and launch our kayaks, or go for our morning walk. The beach goes for a couple of miles, sometimes without ever seeing anyone else. Often we see sea turtles feeding along the reef areas when we walk in the early morning. Surfers anxious to get in a little time on the waves before work, paddle out to the far end of Goat island just after sunrise. I can't believe I live in such a beautiful place!

It worked as a place to eat and sleep.
We came for the (canceled) Spartan race & stayed 6 nights in August. Property is clean/as pictured, but smaller than I thought. Beds were too firm for us, personally. There was no A/C, despite her response to a reviewer that it would be installed by end of August. We checked out 8/29. The washer & dryer are new and work well, which was a plus. Because of no A/C, we had fans on the whole time but it was still so humid. We had to keep all windows open as well despite the rain (luckily there are overhangs so water didn’t get in). TV works well. Unit does not have its own WiFi router. It works well when it works. We enjoyed being able to walk across the street to the beach. The road isn't busy or noisy. There was enough in the kitchen for us to cook, though basic. You’ll need to buy your own seasonings.
We happened to be checking in the day Hurricane Lane was supposed to start bringing heavy wind/rain. We emailed Marci to see if (because of storm) we could check-in early. No response. The next morning, we found a sweet family of 7 outside who hadn't been given correct instructions to get in. We tried our code, looked under doormats, looked at their email, and tried calling/texting Marci. No answer. We invited them to our unit because we didn’t think it right to leave a family in a van while a hurricane was starting to push in heavy winds/rain. The WiFi was down for a few days (texted & no response for over a day). We got back one night and the light was on in the kitchen causing us to believe she stopped by with no heads up. I get it’s her rental, but it would’ve been nice to know. She popped by the next morning (this time with a heads up) to fix the WiFi. Turns out someone unplugged it downstairs.
We paid the extra nightly fee for 2 extra guests, but their flight got canceled due to the hurricane. Since we were now going to also pay their cost, we texted her twice asking if we could have the extra guest fee credited. No response. I asked her face-to-face when she stopped by for the WiFi and she said “No, it’s clearly stated on the website.” I replied I hadn’t had WiFi to look. While I understand no refund rules, I’d also think given that we had no WiFi for 2-3 days & played host to her other guests for a bit there’d maybe be some leeway. Nope. When it gets A/C, the property will be fine. We personally probably wouldn’t stay here again because we feel responsiveness could be better.
There was a lot going on with my rentals due to the storm brewing. I always have my phone with me, but a text is not always noticeable.
A phone call would have been better. I did respond to the other guests within a few hours, but their check in time was not until 4pm and they were very early. The wifi did work but the guest downstairs had unplugged it and it took a while to discover that.
I did not go in the rental without permission. Perhaps the guests forgot that they left the light on.
We work very hard to provide our guests with a clean apartment, and a fun vacation experience. Once in a while there are things that are out of my control.
Perfect location, great place
Super Close to the Beach
Pros: Has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. In one of the bedrooms the bathroom was through the room at the back, which provided more privacy. The kitchen was recently updated and is really nice. You can see the beach from the balcony and it's only a 5 minute walk away. The beach itself was nice and the water safe. You have to rush across a busy road to get to it, but it's not too bad. The owner lives on Oahu and was able to help me with directions and other questions.
Cons: The condo is tiny. Both bedrooms are right on the living/dining room. It feels worn and outdated except for the kitchen. There is a TV but very few channels and no DVD player. We were able to hook our laptop up to it and watch Netflix. There is no A/C, which didn't bother me but it bothered all of my traveling companions.
This place was good for two couples, which is what our party was. It would also work well for parents with 2-3 kids. The second bedroom has a queen size bed and a bunk bed.
We are in the process of installing air conditioners in all our units, and should have them all installed by the end of August.
Awesome space and great location
2 bedroom, 2 bathroom space that really suited our Whanau of 3 teenagers and 2 parents. Upstairs and great view, Hukilau Beach across the road meant for great access to the beach, there was also easy access to the local shopping centre, petrol station, temple and LDS churches.
Great guests. We really enjoyed visiting with Mihi and her husband. They were out and about a lot, and really took advantage of all the area has to offer. We would love to have them come again!
Great place for the price!
We loved our stay! The location is perfect and it’s a great place for the price! Beware that there isn’t any AC, but this is pretty normal for Hawaii. Eight people is a little tight in this place and the pull out bed is pretty old. We bought an air mattress at Costco and used that instead of the pull out. The kitchen and bathrooms look like they’ve been redone recently and are really nice! The washer and dryer are also brand new and very easy to use. I highly recommend renting from Marci and we will be back for sure!
we loved hosting Allison and her family. they were fun people, always on the go, and very friendly. This unit is tight for 8 adults. Better suited for a mix of adults and children, but it works for adults in a pinch, or tight budget.
Clean and Convenient!
We shared the condo, 5 women and it worked out well. Very clean! Close to where we wanted to go - PCC and breakfast was around the corner, easy drive to Dole, grocery close by. Nice get away from Honolulu. Marci was awesome to deal with, we had some issues with finding the key and she was right there on the call and solved immediately! Highly recommend! The stairs were a bit of an issue for our Mom's but they managed ok.
Located at the North end of Laie, right across the street from Hukilau Beach Park, there is a large meadow next to the property with a walking path that starts in the meadow and goes all the way to Kahuku. Hiking to Laie Falls is a favorite activity for visitors young and old. The start to the trail is around the corner and past Laie Park. About 1/4 mile from the property. Allow a good 3 to 5 hours for the round trip hike depending on your groups physical abilities. Sky diving at Wailua Airport is a great activity as well. All 4 of my children have gone sky diving here and say it was spectacular! Spectacular view of the ocean from up there!
