About the Property
2 bedroom, 1 bath with forest and mountain views, close to Estes Park
Built originally in 1909 from hand hewn logs and newly renovated in 2014, the cottage features new flooring in the living room and guest room, a newly tiled bathroom with shower, a dining area which accommodates up to four, and a sitting area with a comfortable couch and chair.
The downstairs guest bedroom has a comfortable twin trundle bed and the upstairs master bedroom has a king bed. DishTV is complementary on the two flat screen TVs, one in the living room and the other in the master bedroom upstairs.
The cabin is fully furnished and stocked with linens, sheets, pillows, towels and blankets. We provide firewood for the wood stove, although you may want to bring with you newspapers or other kindling to help start the fire. We usually have condiments on-hand but you may want to bring some of your favorites if you intend to cook, and it's a good idea to bring some extra canned food just in case there's an unexpected snow storm.
Be sure to pick up your groceries either in Lyons or Estes Park on your way to the cabin. We have a small selection of cafes and restaurants in Allenspark, and you can do your laundry at two laundry facilities in Allenspark.
The cottage has a full kitchen, including refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave and coffee maker.
The cottage is located within walking distance of Allenspark cafes and shops, and a short drive from Indian Peaks, Wild Basin, Twin Sisters and Longs Peak trailheads and the Roosevelt National Forest trail system, plus fishing, biking, climbing and horseback riding.
In the winter, you can enjoy snow shoeing and cross country skiing, or just relaxing in front of the new wood burning stove with a good book. Firewood is complementary, as is the wifi and all local/national phone calls.
We understand that your pets are part of your family, and welcome them at the Blue Bark Cottage.
The cottage is close to countless seasonal outdoor activities including hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, rafting, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, road biking, mountain biking and fly fishing. Take the scenic drive for a visit over to Estes Park for shopping or restaurant dining. While pets are allowed on trails in Arapaho Roosevelt National Forest, please note that pets are not allowed in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). Here is a brief list of some of our favorite activities and shops in the area:
Lily Lake (RMNP): An easy hike around a small lake within about a 15 minute drive from the cabin. Picnic benches along the trail.
Twin Sisters Trailhead (RMNP): A strenuous hike within about a 15 minute drive from the cabin.
Distant Harbors: Wonderful gift shop right in Allenspark.
Sombrero Ranches: Allenspark Stables is located adjacent to the Rocky Mountain National Park and Roosevelt National Forest. This means you have access to hundreds of miles of trails to the Wild Basin Area in Rocky Mountain National Park, back country lakes and trails in Roosevelt National Forest.
Saint Vrain Mountain Trail: Arapaho Roosevelt National Forest; from Allenspark, take County Road 107 (Ski Road) south for 1.5 miles. National Forest System Road 116.1 heads up the hill to the right for 0.5 miles to the Saint Vrain Mountain Trailhead. Parking is limited, and pets are allowed on most of the trail with the exception of a short portion that makes its way through Rocky Mountain National Park.
Indian Peaks Wilderness Area: Saint Vrain Mountain Trailhead is the trailhead for the Saint Vrain Mountain Trail #915. The trailhead can accomodate about 12 parked vehicles. This trailhead accesses the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, which requires camping permits for all overnight trips between June 1 and September 15.
Long's Peak Trailhead (RMNP): Take CO Hwy 7 west. At approx 1.75 miles you'll pass the Wild Basin Entrance. Continue on Hwy 7 for a total of approx 5.5 miles from Allenspark to the Longs Peak Ranger Station and Campground entrance. At the sign turn left and proceed another mile to the trailhead.
Wild Basin (RMNP): Take CO Hwy 7 west. At approx 1.75 miles, you will follow a dirt road around Copeland Lake, following North St. Vrain Creek until you reach the Wild Basin Ranger Station and Trailhead.
South Saint Vrain Fishing Sites: There are fishing sites along Hwy 7, at mile markers 6 and 7.5 miles west of Lyons toward Allenspark; fishing permit required. From Allenspark, follow Colorado Highway 7 toward Lyons. Turn into the pullout 7.5 miles west of Lyons.
Estes Valley Dog Park: Fenced dog park with lake swimming available! Located in Estes Park at HWY 36 and Community Drive.
St. Malo Church: Don't miss this amazing chapel on the rock, located on scenic highway 7 enroute from Allenspark to Estes Park, 10758 Hwy 7.
Old Gallery Allenspark: A welcoming center for arts, wellness, education and social activities owned and operated by the Allenspark Community Cultures Council, a non-profit, tax exempt corporation. Located at 14863 Hwy 7 in Allenspark, with hours from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Saturdays and Sundays through 19 December and 11:30 AM - 4:00 PM starting in January. Also open by appointment.
Note: When you're out hiking, please watch out for high waters and wet conditions. Keep informed about flooding potential in Boulder County by visiting the Division of Emergency Management.
During the winter months, we recommend that you bring canned foods with you in the event of inclement weather. Don't feel like cooking? There are loads of restaurants in Estes Park and quite a few in Lyons as well. If you don't want to drive to Estes or Lyons, we suggest you try out these Allenspark establishments:
Meadow Mountain Cafe: Walk around the corner and down the hill for an incredible breakfast. $20 minimum for credit card charges.
Rock Creek Tavern & Pizzeria: New pizza joint in town, plus great beer and wine. Highly recommend.
Fawn Brook Inn: Fine dining and cooking classes.

Year Purchased: 2011
About: We are from California but love the mountains of Colorado, visiting often to rock climb and enjoy the hiking and mountain biking. We found Allenspark to be the perfect destination because it's accessible from Denver and Boulder, and is located in close proximity to RMNP and all the outdoor activities of the Roosevelt National Forest.
Why Allenspark, CO, USA:
As you'll see when you stay at the cottage, it just feels warm and welcoming! We hope that you enjoy it just as much as we do, because no matter how stressful life can be, it only takes a few days at the cottage to bring out a sense of calm and relaxation. Allenspark is a lovely town consisting of a combination of summer cabins and year-round residents, and there's enough to do no matter what time of year to stay occupied and content.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Our favorite activity at the cottage is to hang out on the back patio and listen to the river in the distance. We also love cozying up close to the wood burning fireplace and sharing a meal with one another either out on the patio or at the dining table. The cottage, which was built in 1909, is made of hand hewn logs and has exposed wood beams inside ... in fact, it has a ton of character and warmth throughout, as you'll be sure to experience when you visit!
