|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Enjoy spectacular views of the Lighthouse, Mountains, Water and Parklands from bed, or your comfy chair in the Sunroom. Just step out your door to take a stroll to the Lighthouse, and/ or the miles of hikes along the bluffs, beaches and forests. The Park is 1600 acres and surrounded on 3 sides by water. It's a 15 minute drive from Friday Harbor to the sunny Southern tip of San Juan Island. In the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountain Range, we enjoy less than half the rainfall of Seattle and the rest of Western Washington. So even the cooler months invite long walks and hikes on the beaches, bluffs and forests (which are sheltered from the wind and the rain). Or stay cozy by the stove and when the storms roll in enjoy your front row seat. And the stunning sunrises paint the sky with color and outline Mount Rainier and the Olympics in bold relief.
** The location is a perfect for Bicyclers, Hikers, Amblers, Beachcombers, Birders and Nature Enthusiasts or anyone who wants to enjoy spectacular natural beauty and read a good book at the same time.
** Be our guest in your own Private Suite with private entrance (Left Side French Doors). The Suite is set up for a couple or a single traveler and includes enclosed Sun Porch sitting area with Kitchenette, Bedroom with Queen Size Bed, and Master Bath.
** Lie in Bed and gaze out to the Lighthouse, Water, the snowcapped Mountains & Grasslands of the Park. The Sun Porch is all glass making the views even more exceptional.
** Hot Tub is located just steps from your door and you'll enjoy the same Lighthouse, Mountain, and Water views while you soak.
** Rather than go out for all of their meals, many guests have visited the local Deli and grocery stores, brought their own cooler, and used the Kitchenette to prepare simple meals (especially breakfast and lunch).
** Step outside your door into the Park and follow the miles of trails on the beach, the bluffs and the forests in the 1600 acre park.
** Take a 2 minute walk to several nearby beaches. Enjoy the abundant wildlife with Deer grazing in the yard, Eagles soaring above, Foxes hunting on the bluffs, Seals Barking on the distant rocks, and the occasional sound of a Whale blowing.
** Take a bottle of wine out to the bluff to enjoy the Sunset over Haro Strait, Victoria B. C. and the snowcapped Olympic Mountain range. Bring your bikes and ride the beautiful roads through the Park.
** Or downshift into the slow pace of 'Island Time' and read a book in the yard, Hot Tub or Sunroom.

First my apologies for getting this review posted so late. We stayed here for our 25th Anniversary and was looking for a place away from the tourism and we found it here! Funny I should say that being that we were tourists coming from a tourist town in Leavenworth. South point out in the National Park was a dream come true. Our first morning we woke to a stunning sunrise of pinks and oranges, with a rainbow to boot. We were greeted by a little grey/black fox that came all the way up to the deck to say HELLO. Walked out to the lighthouse and as we cut through the grassy trails came across many black tail deer and a 2 point buck that wanted his picture taken as well. Arrived at the Lighthouse monument to find the biggest Eagle I have ever seen, and we get a lot of them on our side of the mountain. He sat up on the railing of the lighthouse and let us take close up pics as if to say I am the ruler of this roost! Views from the bluff were stunning all the way around and we even snapped a couple of pics of a seal and blue heron down below. This was all our first morning there! Kristine recommended a great whale watch outfit out of Roche/Snug Harbor and they did not disappoint! The weather was absolutely perfect and the water was like glass. We were fortunate enough to follow a transient pod around which consisted of two momma's and three of their calves. We watched them play, eat seals :(, breach, moonwalk, harass the stellar sea lions, and also nurse! I have the best pictures ever and I owe Kristine a big thank you for that!! We did not hear any noises from Kristine or her adorable fur baby and the cottage was very quaint and cozy. Not much of a kitchen as described, but she left us wonderful things for us to enjoy. The bed I thought was comfy and I could have laid there all morning, except I was in such a hurry to see as much of the island as possible. I did not leave a stone unturned! Thank you so much for sharing a piece of heaven with us! We will be back!
We stayed here 9/28-10/01 and hated to leave. Kristine and Ella greeted us on arrival, and then showed us around our lodgings. It has everything you would want, and more. It's all so thoughtfully laid out. Even has multiple power strips for recharging all your gadgets at days end. We loved just about everything here! Kristine is very welcoming, and makes sure you have everything you need. She checks in with you, but also respects your privacy.
We had deer in the yard daily, and saw multiple foxes (Red, and black ones) near by. We also saw a bald eagle across the street, on the bluff. It's an easy drive to Friday or Roche, though we liked Friday a lot better. More laid back, casual, many more dining options. Lots to do all over the island, and we tried to do it all. Saw both Camps, whales at Lime Kiln, wandered South Beach and a few others. Hiked down the bluffs and walked the beaches. Saw Orca's with Maya's Legacy whale watching (Out of Snug Harbor) and would highly, HIGHLY recommend them over any other group offering tours. We never ate in, and ate nightly at different spots in Friday.
We truly loved our stay here, and are sure you will too! :)
Two things that should be mentioned, and it's not a negative, just more a "just so you know"... while the lodging is private, and perfect you can hear clearly next door. We could hear phone conversations, dinner being eaten (Or maybe dishes being washed?) through out our stay. It's not loud, or intrusive at all. Just know that you can hear stuff on her side pretty well, which means the reverse may be true. Also, the mattress (For us) was a bummer. It's an innerspring, and it has a lot of movement. So if you or your partner turns over, gets up, or just shifts position the other side wiggles and jiggles as well.
This was my favorite area of the island. Lots of things you can do or enjoy relaxing and do nothing at all. We ate breakfast in room and had take out or ate meals around the island. Kristin provides book of activities and restaurant recommendations. First time using VRBO and had a great experience.
This is a fantastic vacation property, perfect for a romantic getaway to San Juan. We were surrounded by wildlife the entire time and the views are amazing. Kristine and Ella made us feel welcome and checked in with us to ensure a top rate stay.
The place has plenty of space for a couple with the reading area/sunroom/kitchenette in a second sun porch that is perfect for a few hours of nature watching and relaxing.
This place was exactly what we needed. Close to everything but quiet and peaceful. The suite has everything you need to kick back and enjoy some time with the sound of the waves crashing below the bluff. We came to the islands for our honeymoon and had a lot of activities to keep us busy. Our time at the lighthouse cabin was the highlight. We walked the park and enjoyed the slow pace and quiet.
If you are looking to be overstimulated by the city, this isn't the place for you. If, however, you are looking for a place to let your mind rest and to be rejuvenated by the sea and stars, this is a great spot. My wife and I had a fabulous time. The suite is quaint and cozy. The views are spectacular. Wildlife comes right up to the suite; at one point we saw 11 deer in a group at dusk. Walks through the forest and by the lighthouse can't be beat. Kristine is a fantastic proprietor who is friendly and very welcoming. Highly recommended.
Lighthouse San Juan is located in the American Camp National Park overlooking the Cattle Point Lighthouse, the grasslands of the 1600 acre Park, the Straits of Juan de Fuca and Haro Strait, the Olympic Mt Range, Mt Rainier, Mt Baker, and the North Cascades. You'll enjoy abundant wildlife including Deer, Fox, Eagles and the occasional Orca Whale.
It's both a hiking and bicycling paradise with miles of trials and rural roads along the waterfront and through the National Park. Ride the spectacular 10 miles from the ferry terminal to Lighthouse San Juan, or take the shuttle to the sunny Southern tip of the Island. Step outside your door to miles of beach, forest, ridge and bluff trails in the National Park. Choose among several beaches within a 2 minute walk. You can see lots of pictures on our website. Take in the view, listen to the sea lions and soak in hot tub every evening. We look forward to your arrival! Happy Travels, Kristine and Ella
