About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (sleeps 4-5)

Built in the early 60's as our family's Maine summer 'camp', 'Memory Cove' is floor to ceiling knotty pine, rustic and spacious. A large kitchen, dining area and separate den. The deck is right off the front, a gas grill and plenty of seating so you can relax and enjoy a summer meal while taking in the beautiful lake view.

Step down to the dock, kayak or canoe out to islands and secluded sand beaches for a picnic or a mountain top hike.

Other amenities include full laundry, dishwasher, fireplace inside and fire pit outside (got to have marshmallows!) and a gas grill.

Swim, fish right off the dock or relax on the deck while taking in the spectacular beauty of the mountains and lake.

Located on a large lake, beautiful, pristine Donnells Pond in Downeast Maine. Welcome to 'Memory Cove'!

Donnells Pond is one of Maine's most premier lakes, with miles of protected and forever wild shoreline. Quiet even at the height of summer, with beautiful mountain views, remote sand beaches and hiking.

2 person canoe and single person kayak for your enjoyment.

My parents, born and raised in Maine, built this home in 1960 as a summer retreat. Every summer my parents would load up the station wagon and with 8 kids in tow drive from New York to Franklin, Maine to spend the summer. In Maine a summer lake home is often referred to as 'camp'. And truly in the early years, camp it was with no running water or electricity and with 8 kids (some in diapers). We loved it and we can't imagine a childhood without swimming and being on the lake. Over the years 'camp' has evolved into a home, perhaps still a bit rough around the edges, but no better spot exist as far as we 'kids' believe.

It's our pleasure to share our home with you so that you can make your own everlasting memories of summer in Maine.

Welcome to Memory Cove!

Why Tim Leavitt chose Franklin

Donnells Pond is one of Maine premier lakes.

Mostly undeveloped with it's shoreline protected as 'forever wild'. Think 'On Golden Pond'.

What makes this house unique

Although the pictures don't show it, Donnell Pond is a large lake. It's unique clover leaf shape hides much of it size until you kayak out to the middle. There are two very special and beautiful sand beaches with hiking opportunities too.

Beaches are rare in rocky Maine but Donnells has two spectacular sand beaches. And you have all of Acadia National Park, Schoodic Peninsula, and miles of 'Rails to Trails' nearby.

The hardest part will be dividing your time between staying put or off on a day trip.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for allowing us to stay in your woodland camp along the pond.

We enjoyed the stars, the campfires and the remarkable solitude. As we were sitting by the lake we were wondering if the two beavers that came to visit had been named. We we excited to see a loon on the pond and to hear a great horned owl in the forest.

We really loved the layout of the camp, particularly the wood ceilings.

Amazing Lake Views

  • 5 of 5

We had the opportunity to stay at memory cove during the fall. The views of the lake are incredible and the fall foliage made it even better. It was a great home base for us to tour around Scoodic and Acadia close by. They have a whole binder full of information for stuff to do. We took the recommendation to climb Schoodic mountain and it was incredible views at the top. Ellsworth was close by to get all the groceries and stuff you need for your stay. Having the kayaks available made our stay even better. We kayaked every morning and the silence and serenity out on the lake is amazing. Great getaway to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Tim was very helpful and responded quickly with any questions we had during our stay. We hope to be back soon.

Relaxing and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We rented the house during Labor Day week and enjoyed our stay at Donnells pond. The home was perfect for us. and we had nice weather during our stay. It is bigger than it looks from the outside. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and dishes. It opens to a nice dining area overlooking the lake. We spent most of our time outside on the deck staring at the calm and beautiful lake. The house is on a cove with other homes near by, but had enough privacy. It is in a remote area with dirt road leading to the home but not far from town. The lake is quiet, occasional motor boats go by, but mostly we felt like we had the whole lake to ourselves. There were three kayaks for our use and a canoe. The house was not far from Acadia as well, which we liked. We drove to Acadia several times during our stay. Overall, I would definitely rent this property again or refer a friend.

Peaceful...Quiet...Clean...Comfortable...PERFECT

  • 5 of 5

We felt completely "restored" by our stay at Memory Cove. The cottage is so welcoming and well-thought-out, with everything needed to be comfortable, relax and just have fun. Rustic charm of a traditional Maine camp, but certainly NO roughing it is necessary!

Beautiful view of the pond, regular sightings of Loons, Kingfishers, Hummingbirds, even a Bald Eagle. Great swimming (the water was not cold!) and kayaking all over Donnell Pond, quiet campfires at water's edge, fabulous local hiking with 360-degree view from the top of Schoodic Mtn. and lots of other great trails...Trading Post for yummy, filling, (and friendly!) breakfast, Joshy's Place in Millbridge for great lobster rolls (2/$15!) and Gifford's ice cream. So convenient to Ellsworth or either section of Acadia.

The Leavitt family are such nice folks, very helpful and accommodating to ensure arrangements go smoothly for your vacation...all you need to do is arrive, breathe deeply, and UNWIND. So glad we found this spot---We plan to be back next year for sure!!!

perfect

  • 5 of 5

Tim's home is even more wonderful than the pictures show. The cabin is loaded with lakefront-charm, comfortable, beautiful, and stocked with everything you need. The pond/lake is something out of a fairytale... with loons calling in the morning and evening, and 2 kayaks and a canoe ready for exploring. We were shocked that the water temperature was warm enough for the kids to swim even in June ("warm" being relative, of course). We drove into Acadia (45-60 minutes) and Bar Habor, but could have spent the week relaxing at the cabin, too. Tim was the perfect host - answering any questions cheerfully and quickly. We would love to come back...

Practically Perfect in every way!!

  • 5 of 5

Every part of this rental was perfect!! The home itself was beautiful, spacious, clean, and fully stocked. There was nothing that we needed that was not there. The pictures online do not give the home or the views justice. Donnell Pond and the entire area was magnificent. We kayaked and canoed every day and every evening! Although we went to Acadia, other than bike riding the carriage roads, there was no reason to leave. Tim, one of the owners, was incredibly communicative and helpful from before we chose his house until the day we left. He answered all of our questions, made sure everything we wanted was there and provided ample recommendations on hiking, food, etc. Nothing went wrong, but if it did there is no question that Tim would have been available to solve it. Thank you Tim, and we hope to be able to stay at the camp again!!

Our Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were very excited to be staying at this camp for our anniversary getaway. Just the drive into Franklin and to the camp got me on the edge of my seat. There is nothing like those remote, coastal parts of Maine. We easily found the camp and what an adorable camp it was. We quickly felt at home as we unpacked and checked the lot out. I have always enjoyed places that are well kept, yet still holds that true camp feeling. Facing the lake were several large windows, so you could over look the water from any room and see the wonderful mountain across the way and all its wonderful scenery. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. A wonderful wood stove in one of living spaces quickly became my favorite spot. We brought our small 20lb dog who just sat by the fire, gazing at the lake. My husband enjoyed that they did had internet access. A big wooden dining table was set for every meal and again, by those large windows to watch the sunrise and moon glisten over the water. They had two quaint bedrooms with a full size bathroom that we felt very comfortable in. Nice quality towels and very clean. The following day was more of our outside day. We went down to the dock and used the canoe to do some fishing and site seeing. They had a large outside deck and sat out there as we BBQ that evening. As a photographer, I had my tripod and camera set up on the porch all weekend. We are from Maine, so we didn't adventure down to Bar Harbor, but for those coming out of state, this is a great location to head to the coast while staying here. It was very quiet and didn't feel to close to anyone. Some places can have a camp so close you can hear them or even see them, so I was pleased that this was not the case. They had wild flowers growing around the site and just truly felt at ease. I look forward to going again this September and hope to make this a our little tradition. I know they have since then built a fire pit outside, so smore's it will be this fall!!
