About Reuel & Sara Detweiler
We moved on the family farm in 1965. The Chalet was built in 1976 on the 30 acres of woods on our farm. Reuel and I are now retired, but his last 10 years of employment were spent building log homes in the county and surrounding areas. Sara spent 20 years employed by the AuSable Valley Nursing Home in Fairview. We have 3 sons who helped us with the mowing and cleaning as they were growing up. They now live in Goshen, IN, and Columbus, OH. Over the years, it has been our pleasure to meet many people, from many walks of life. Just this week, one of our renters said they have been coming here since our children were small (30 years). Our cottage has been updated each year and many return to see what is going to be new this year.

This was the perfect getaway for 2 stressed out Mom's who just needed to get away for a few days and relax! The cabin was clean and the location could not have been more perfect! We LOVED the quiet, the lake, the walking trails and the cabin itself is so cozy! We even chatted with the neighbors across the lake for a bit while rowing past on the boat! We will be booking again for next year! Thank you!
Thank you so much for letting us know how you liked your vacation at our cottage. We do so appreciate your taking time to give those details that will help our future clients decide to come to our cottage. So glad it was a quiet, relaxing stay and that you will return!

We loved our stay. It was our honeymoon and it could not have been more relaxing. It was so nice just the two of us. We talked about going back already.
Thank you for your comments. Happy to hear that it was a great place for your honeymoon. Our best wishes for a great year ahead. Please visit us again!

Beautify Quiet Location
This home on a beautiful quiet small private lake. There are only 2 other homes and they cannot be seen from the house. We would definitely visit again in the future if we plan to be in Michigan.
Thank you for your comments about our quiet getaway. We do appreciate your taking time to send a brief review and hope you are able to return soon!

very relaxing and private
loved the lake. not deep enough to get kids in trouble
Perfect, quiet, and peaceful
I loved the property, the owners were kind and gracious to us, had a wonderful time out on the lake fishing, it was just an overall great experience that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed. This cabin is great for anyone who is just trying to get away from it all and get some peace and quiet. I would definitely give the review more stars if I could. We loved our experiance!!
We live in Amish country. They provide the area with unique places of business including a bulk food store with items you don't find in your grocery store, Pioneer Place (unique hardware), Amish furniture, & Health food store.
Deer, Turkey and other wildife can be seen in the woodland and surrounding area and many species of birds make Lori Lane their home.
Field glasses will make bird watching and hiking the mowed trails more interesting.
Nearby are two golf courses, a Pioneer Museum, The AuSable Valley Railroad, horseback riding and canoeing on the AuSable River.
Groomed snowmobile trails, downhill and cross country skiing, elk viewing and more, are only a short drive away.
In the SPRING, melting snow brings maple syrup, wild flowers, and mushrooms. Spring is also the best time for viewing deer, turkey and migrating birds.
SUMMER is family time for hiking, fishing, swimming or basking in the Michigan sun. There is time for day trips to Mackinaw Island, or Light Houses along the shore.
FALL brings Autumn colors (one of the most
colorful spots is right here in Oscoda County), and campfires or quiet frosty mornings to refresh one's spirits after the nonstop rush of summer.
WINTER snow and frozen lakes bring joy to skiers, snowmobilers, and ice fisherman. The young at heart can enjoy a romp in the snow or a good book by the crackling fireplace.
