About Reuel & Sara Detweiler
We moved on the family farm in 1965. The Chalet was built in 1976 on the 30 acres of woods on our farm. Reuel and I are now retired, but his last 10 years of employment were spent building log homes in the county and surrounding areas. Sara spent 20 years employed by the AuSable Valley Nursing Home in Fairview. We have 3 sons who helped us with the mowing and cleaning as they were growing up. They now live in Goshen, IN, and Columbus, OH. Over the years, it has been our pleasure to meet many people, from many walks of life. Just this week, one of our renters said they have been coming here since our children were small (30 years). Our cottage has been updated each year and many return to see what is going to be new this year.

Perfect cabin and owners
The cabin was fantastic and everybody from the owners to the property managers did more than I can ever express. There was a big winter storm that produced so much snow that we could not get out. Elizabeth and Dakota came over and assisted getting us out of the driveway and followed us until we were able to get to the main road. They went above and beyond what was expected. The cabin itself was wonderful and made our weekend special. We definitely plan on returning in the future.
Thank you for your kind response. So sorry for all the snow but I’m sure you enjoyed the beauty in spite of the inconvience. I am happy to hear your weekend was special and look forward to your return.

What a great place to stay! Cabin was very clean, cozy, and secluded. We had a foot of snow on the ground when we stayed so we weren't able to do a lot of things we wanted but it was still a great time!
This was our 4th time staying here for a week-end and we love it. The house is clean and has everything you need. We love the pond and the trails. Great and affordable place to get away. It's nice that they accept pets, too!
So great to have you back for the 4th time! And thank you for sharing what you liked about the property with those who are considering a time away. Look forward to having you return!

We had a bad ice fishing weekend, but the accommodations were great. Very quiet and restful area. Would recommend it to anyone.
Thanks Leroy for your review. Sorry the weather didn’t cooperate this time but glad your weekend went well. Hope you can come again soon!

Charming cottage, clean, nicely maintained. Quiet, perfect place to recharge.
I spent a winter weekend with my dog at the Detweiler Cottage, and had a great time walking the trails around the pond. Found fantastic cross-country ski trails in the Huron National Forest, including the Silver Loop Trail which I highly recommend, scenic, with great varieties of terrain. If you are looking for a relaxing place to stay away from it all, this place is a winner! I will return again.
Quiet peaceful retreat. Just what we needed for our marriage weekend. Time and presence in the Lord Jesus Christ praying for our marriage and our children.
We were touched by your review. Thanks for sharing. So glad to hear it was the kind of weekend you were looking for. Please come back again!

We live in Amish country. They provide the area with unique places of business including a bulk food store with items you don't find in your grocery store, Pioneer Place (unique hardware), Amish furniture, & Health food store. Deer, Turkey and other wildife can be seen in the woodland and surrounding area and many species of birds make Lori Lane their home. Field glasses will make bird watching and hiking the mowed trails more interesting. Nearby are two golf courses, a Pioneer Museum, The AuSable Valley Railroad, horseback riding and canoeing on the AuSable River. Groomed snowmobile trails, downhill and cross country skiing, elk viewing and more, are only a short drive away. In the SPRING, melting snow brings maple syrup, wild flowers, and mushrooms. Spring is also the best time for viewing deer, turkey and migrating birds. SUMMER is family time for hiking, fishing, swimming or basking in the Michigan sun. There is time for day trips to Mackinaw Island, or Light Houses along the shore. FALL brings Autumn colors (one of the most colorful spots is right here in Oscoda County), and campfires or quiet frosty mornings to refresh one's spirits after the nonstop rush of summer. WINTER snow and frozen lakes bring joy to skiers, snowmobilers, and ice fisherman. The young at heart can enjoy a romp in the snow or a good book by the crackling fireplace.
