Pacific NW Island Adventure: Lakefront Getaway

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,464 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 3 nights

About the property

Anderson Island is one of the best kept secrets in the Pacific Northwest, and especially unique because of its quiet atmosphere and tranquility even while enjoying remarkable proximity to Seattle, Tacoma, and even Portland. Typically one would have to travel a great distance to experience the serenity and seclusion of Island life, yet it is provided by a short 15 minute ferry ride from Steilacoom, which is just southwest of Tacoma.

The Island itself has two freshwater lakes, an executive 9 hole golf course, a restaurant, a coffee cafe, a general store, tennis courts, playgrounds, and a saltwater marina.

The Lakefront Getaway is a 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath home with an additional open upstairs loft with a futon, comfortably sleeping 8 people. The main floor features an open-concept living room with fireplace, kitchen, and dining well as two bedrooms and a full bath. Sliding glass doors in the living room and the master bedroom lead to the full-width deck. The lower level has a bedroom, large multi-purpose room with wood stove, full bath, and a bonus room. French doors lead to a patio followed by the walkway to the lake.

The property has 200 feet of frontage on Lake Josephine, the quiet lake where many types of watercraft including row boats, paddle boats, paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, sailboats, etc are allowed...except gasoline powered. We enjoy paddleboat rides, then returning to build a campfire in the open fire pit, enjoying peaceful evenings roasting hot dogs and marshmallows sharing stories of the day's events, the wildlife observed, and planning tomorrow's activities.

We welcome your questions about the property or the Island, and appreciate your interest.

The perfect family getaway destination for our holiday away from home.

  • 5 of 5

My sisters and our families (3 couples and 2 kiddos) enjoyed a white Christmas 2017 at this great Anderson Island getaway. The house itself has a great layout for cold weather holidays when so much time is spent indoors and especially in the kitchen centered around food. The dining room, main living area and kitchen are situated in an open layout, so conversation flows very well between the chefs, consumers, and peanut gallery. The living area has a very comfy sectional couch and two bedrooms and a bathroom are also on the main floor. Upstairs is a loft area that feels much like a private room as it does not overlook any portion of the level below. Downstairs has a large second living area with a duplicate of upstairs sectional and fireplace, bonus play room (lots of great toys and a futon), another bedroom, and bathroom with laundry.

Outside the home is a stepped yard down to the beautiful lake. On a sunny day we enjoyed use of a pedal boat on the property despite the 30F degree weather, and did a polar bear plunge off the dock that night. We are already looking forward to a visit in the summer to make use of kayaks, paddle board, open water swimming, bbq, fire pit and the great deck!

The only thing this place is missing is a hot tub!

If you’ve never been to the area, note that Anderson Island is accessible by ferry only, and feels pretty remote considering it’s proximity to Seattle. There is a general store and a restaurant, but not much else. The ferry runs about every hour, and despite the holiday rush we still were able to board our intended ferry each time we took it during our trip (aka - lines were not bad at all).

The owners obviously care a great deal about this property, as it is well kept and well stocked with the goodies you’d expect if you were to borrow a friend’s home (holiday cookie and a bottle of wine greeted us, and shampoo, laundry detergent, plenty of towels, etc were present). We had a great time and will be back!

Beautiful comfortable home

  • 5 of 5

My family and I enjoyed a weekend stay here recently. 4 adults and 3 teenagers. We all loved the home and the island. We all had our own bedrooms and plenty of space to sprawl out and be comfortable. The owners have done a wonderful job in providing everything that could make our stay comfortable - from cooking to playing. We will be renting again! The owners were also very helpful when we had questions. We felt they really cared about our experience in their home. We were very impressed.

Relaxing and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

One of the better vacation experiences I have had. The warm end of summer weather played a part as the lake was just the right temperature for swimming. The kitchen well equipped and everything you need for an enjoyable stay. We drive around the island but stayed primarily at the house. Highly recommended !

Peaceful and Fun Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying at this lovely spot on Anderson Island. While the house is easy to get to logistically, it feels as if time slows down on Anderson Island and quiet Lake Josephine. We chose to return for several reasons: the owners are great communicators and easy to work with, the house is very clean and well equipped and we love the lakeside setting. As an added bonus, they make it so easy for our family to have fun together by sharing their kayaks, stand up paddle board and paddle boat. We enjoyed fishing, swimming, all the water "toys", blackberry picking, bike riding, reading, games and connecting. We added a short excursion on a Wednesday this year and walked on the ferry to enjoy the Steilacoom farmers market and concert in the park. Staying at this vacation rental made it easy for our family of 7 to connect and enjoy one another this summer! Thank you for sharing this special spot with us!

The only property we've ever returned to for a 2nd visit.

  • 5 of 5

Our women's group had such a wonderful time here in 2016 that we returned in 2017 for a repeat visit. In 10 years of renting properties this the only house we enjoyed so much we felt we had to come back. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the lake.

The perfect home for our family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We can't rave enough about this amazing lakeside home and the owners, Sean & Sally, who thought of literally everything to make us feel so very welcome and comfortable there!! It was the perfect setting for our family getaway!! There was so much to appreciate about this gorgeous home -- it is thoroughly clean, beautifully and tastefully furnished, fully-equipped, and in such a tranquil setting with stunning views and endless opportunities for enjoying Lake Josephine and all of Anderson Island. The weather was spectacular, and the kids couldn't get enough of the kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming and fun in the water. We enjoyed hot dogs and s'mores around the campfire one evening, and one afternoon a bald eagle even swooped down and greeted us. We also had a doe and her two bambies stroll across the yard to the delight of us all. We highly recommend this home to anyone who enjoys resort-like amenities in a private camp-like setting. It truly offered the best of both worlds!! This was our first time here, but we sincerely hope it won't be our last. Looks like we may have just started a new family tradition!!
