Anderson Island is one of the best kept secrets in the Pacific Northwest, and especially unique because of its quiet atmosphere and tranquility even while enjoying remarkable proximity to Seattle, Tacoma, and even Portland. Typically one would have to travel a great distance to experience the serenity and seclusion of Island life, yet it is provided by a short 15 minute ferry ride from Steilacoom, which is just southwest of Tacoma.
The Island itself has two freshwater lakes, an executive 9 hole golf course, a restaurant, a coffee cafe, a general store, tennis courts, playgrounds, and a saltwater marina.
The Lakefront Getaway is a 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath home with an additional open upstairs loft with a futon, comfortably sleeping 8 people. The main floor features an open-concept living room with fireplace, kitchen, and dining area...as well as two bedrooms and a full bath. Sliding glass doors in the living room and the master bedroom lead to the full-width deck. The lower level has a bedroom, large multi-purpose room with wood stove, full bath, and a bonus room. French doors lead to a patio followed by the walkway to the lake.
The property has 200 feet of frontage on Lake Josephine, the quiet lake where many types of watercraft including row boats, paddle boats, paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, sailboats, etc are allowed...except gasoline powered. We enjoy paddleboat rides, then returning to build a campfire in the open fire pit, enjoying peaceful evenings roasting hot dogs and marshmallows sharing stories of the day's events, the wildlife observed, and planning tomorrow's activities.
We welcome your questions about the property or the Island, and appreciate your interest.
Sean the owner was great. He was there to answer my text anytime I have a question about the house. We have a wonderful time during out stay. Everyone had a great time paddle boating around the lake. Too bad we did not catch any fishes while fishing. Will have to come back during the summer month so we can enjoy the lake more. Thank you very much for being such a great host.
We stayed over the NYE weekend. Had a really relaxing time. This is a really beautiful and well kept house. Probably one of the nicest rentals I've stayed in for the price. Didn't seem like a rental at all. Sean left a basket of goodies for us to make smores and ring in the new year which was a nice touch. The bed I slept on was really comfortable with nice linens. We mostly camped out downstairs by the big TV to watch football (the house doesn't have cable so we brought our Apple TV to watch sports) and movies. The playroom downstairs is a nice touch as we had a little guy with us. Would love to come back to this house in the summertime to enjoy the property more, although it was so beautiful and quiet when it snowed. Cool house, thanks for having us!
Sean & Sally were great hosts, the house had everything that we needed (with a couple of minor purchases we even made cookies!) and was right on the water as promised. They kayaks being available to use were very handy and we took several trips around the lake. There is a grocery store not even 2 miles from the house, so if you realize you need something it is easy to run and grab it. Very peaceful setting, sitting on the deck and watching the sun rise over the lake made the stress of work bearable!
We had a wonderful 3-day stay over Labor Day weekend. The weather was beautiful for kayaking and paddle boarding. The house appears to be mostly a rental property but is very well maintained and clean. The location is lovely at the end of the lake and the owners left a good guide to the house. Games, movies, good pillows and a full kitchen. It's a large house designed with lots of space and quiet areas for a group of 6 (or 8 or even 10) to spread out and not feel over crowded. Highly recommended!

We are a group of adult women who very much enjoyed this ultra-clean, stylish home as well as the peace and tranquility of this motor-free lake. We made good use of the kayaks, paddle board, and paddle boat. The water was surprisingly warm and made for great swimming. We loved the lake view from the house, from the back upper deck and ground level patio. All was set up to allow visitors to make the most of the space. We even tried out the hammock. And of course, one night we had a campfire complete with s'mores, thanks to the unexpected gift basket provided by owners Sean and Sally. As for wildlife, we saw a deer, coyote, bald eagle, osprey, kingfisher, fish, and much more. We've stayed at 12 VRBO rentals and this one rates at the top of our list.
We stayed at this house for a girls getaway! I can't say enough about how awesome it was, just that it's much better in person than the photos show. The house is updated, includes everything you could want or need and has all the added touches for a great stay. The beds were comfy, carpet was amazingly plush, and the proximity to the water was the icing on the cake. The O'learys thought of everything - games, videos, cozy blankets everywhere and even left an awesome welcome basket full of yumminess. The added touches included Bed, Bath and Beyond products in the bathroom, laundry soap and sheets, and a pantry full of spices for cooking. If you're looking for a small group getaway or a family adventure - look no further. This is definitely a place I will visit again.
