About the property

Waterfront Cabin On The Beach Of A Tiny Private Island.

Our beachfront cabin features an open floor plan, ideal for a romantic getaway or for a small family. Walk or drive onto our private ferry, the S.S Charlie Wells for a short 10 minute voyage to the island (we'll send you guest passes by mail). Once you get to the cabin there's not much need for a car. There are no stores or restaurants on the island allowing you to experience a level of peace that you cannot find anywhere else. You'll have free access to our 2 kayaks, 2 stand up paddle boards and rowboat.

There are neighbors homes on either side of the cabin but you'll have ample privacy both in the cabin and on the property.

The downstairs open bedroom sleeps 2 adults in the queen size bed. There are two single beds in the upstairs open loft. Loft is accessible by ladder. Please watch young children. 1 full bathroom. The entire cabin just remodeled in fall of 2014. Almost everything is new. Fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, flat screen TV, Blue Ray DVD player, central heat and wood burning stove.

There are 2 covered porches. On the back porch you can enjoy your meals outside or just settle down and enjoy the unobstructed ocean, island and mountain view. Watch the deer, eagles, seals and porpoises right from the porch. Keep an eye out for whales. We've been seeing a lot of them lately. Check out the video of Orcas playing on our beach below in the photo section.

About Donn Bennett

My wife and I have lived in the Seattle area all of our lives. We enjoy raising our kids and all the excitement that comes with it. Betty is a great cook and loves to read and is constantly discovering new books. I'm a musician and can bore you to tears rambling on about the completely irrelevant intricacies of my favorite music.

Donn Bennett purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Donn Bennett chose Puget Sound South

We have loved traveling all over the world but are finding we really enjoy spending time closer to home. We discovered Herron Island in southern Puget Sound about 3 years ago and immediately fell in love with it. In less than 90 minutes from our Seattle home we can be on our beautiful little island and feel like were a million miles away. We were amazed that such a beautiful place could be so close without us ever even knowing it was here.

What makes this cabin unique

The view of the Puget Sound, the islands and Olympic mountains will change your life. They certainly changed ours. One sunset and you'll never look at a mountain the same way ever again. You can see the view from almost everywhere in the cabin. We love being right on the beach.

This home was amazing. We were there about ten minutes and we wanted to live there. The island is quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Quaint cottage with beautiful sound and shoreline views

  • 4 of 5

This was our first visit to the NW coast and we were very impressed. We were looking for a writer 's retreat and we found it. The pebbled beach, tree clad shorelines and mysterious driftwood fort on the west end of the island proved to be just what we were looking for: relaxation, adventure and a sense of wonder. Donn and the friendly residents of Herron Island were most helpful and welcoming, along with the 64 deer we spotted one evening. We will and have already recommended this cottage to our friends and family. One recommendation: kitchen, bathroom update of appliances, shower. Otherwise, fabulous!

Owner's Response: Dawn, We're so glad you enjoyed your visit. It sounds like you got to experience so much of what makes Herron Island the truly amazing place that it is. Thank you for recommending us to your friends. That is the greatest endorsement any host could hope for. Expect to see an updated kitchen and bathroom plus an extended deck on the water side by the end of the year. We've been booked pretty much solid since May. We should have enough down time to get all of this done in the next few months. We look forward to your next visit. Thanx!!!! Donn

Comfortable and cozy

  • 5 of 5

I was beyond excited to share the magic of Herron Island with my boys. It had been over 20 years since I had been, but it was still the laid back island I had experienced as a child and I couldn't have picked a better cabin to stay in. Donn's cabin was adorable and clean with all the amenities needed including kayaks and paddle boards which we loved. Donn was so flexible and understanding with last minute changes and our on island hostess, Sharon, was helpful and friendly. Thank you, Donn, for letting us experience Herron Island again! I can't wait to come back.

Unforgettable Experience

  • 5 of 5

The property is as advertised; we had everything we needed and nothing we didn't. The cabin is cozy and perfect for a family of four. The view of Case Inlet and the Olympic Mountains is wondrous, and so are the sunsets. The water is easy to access and the kayaks are great. I especially liked the quiet of the island, and the minimal car traffic made for peaceful morning walks down the middle of the gravel roads. My family and I spent five wonderful days here, and we will never forget them.

Incredible stay, everything just as we hoped!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this wonderful cabin for 3 nights and enjoyed every moment! We walked around the island at low tide (took about 2 hours) and enjoyed looking for shells and crabs. Ferry was a beautiful ride and we enjoyed watching otter and a sea lion play in the waves! Peaceful and quiet island, with a clean adorable cabin. Perfection!

All expectations were achieved!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little cabin with an all star view and plenty of wildlife to keep us intrigued. Did a bit of crabbing in the Case Inlet scoring 8 red rocks measuring at least 7 inches. The island dock for members and guests provided a gorgeous sunset, a bit of fishing, and good conversation with experienced islanders Kim, Tony, and DIck (he's an expert squidder). Kayaking from the cabin was delightful and I as an inexperienced kayaker was able to kayak around the entire beautiful isle, I even found a rope with a crab pot at the end which I left at the cabin. We encountered several friendly deer, a raccoon, diving birds, seals, a pod of porpoises heading north up the inlet, squid, crab, squid egg sacs on the abandoned crab pot, squirrels, and sunsets that left us in awe🌄󑀠Thank you Donn for the delightful stay.

Herron Island is a small, private island in southern Puget Sound. A short 10 minute voyage on our private ferry (we’ll send you a guest pass) brings you to our beachfront cabin on the west shore of the island. There are no stores or restaurants on the island. You'll experience a level of peace and quiet that is hard to match anywhere else. You'll have full use of our kayaks, stand up paddle board, rowboat and crab pots. The water is fairly warm in the summer and generally very calm making for some of the smoothest water sports you'll find anywhere. An early morning kayak paddle is a great way to start your day. If you have your own boat you can moor at the marina or on our buoy in front of the cabin. The island is just a little over a mile long. You can walk around the entire island on the beach in under 2 hours. Watch for our resident deer, eagles, seals and porpoises. Keep an eye (and ear) on the water. You may see some Orca or Gray whales. The west shore is one of the best whale spotting places on the island.
