Perfect for family gathering
We loved having our extended family under one roof for our three-day gathering, and made use of all 9 bedrooms. The spacious kitchen was great for preparing meals together, and we appreciated the various seating areas, the ping pong table and pool table.
An excellent home, in an excellent location, with excellent hosts, and a very attentive caretaker!
As others have noted, some portions of the house are a little tired around the edges, but this actually enhances the experience — a bit like comfort food. Expansive common spaces, and private corners if wanted. We’ll be back!
Wonderful location in picture perfect town
This is the 2nd time we have stayed at this home and again, we had a wonderful week. If you haven't been to Manchester-by-the-sea, MA, you have missed one of the most picture perfect towns in New England. The harbor, the town and Singing Beach are spectacular. We've been coming here for years. The house itself is a little dated, but it's huge, clean and perfectly located. The pictures offer a true depiction of this comfortable home. It's a wonderful house for large groups and the owner and caretaker are responsive and accommodating. We can't wait to go back!
Great location, perfect for large groups
We had a family reunion here in June with many wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. The house is in a prime location close to Singing Beach and an easy walk to downtown Manchester-by-the-sea. The house is in a peaceful and picturesque area, surrounded by beautiful greenery.
We had 16 people staying on the property and we all fit perfectly in the house. The house is large enough that we all had enough space and never felt crowded. The large dining area served as a great place for meals as well as nightly games for the whole family.
The kitchen was well-stocked with all cooking utensils and gear that we needed.
The pool was wonderful, it is very private and well-kept by the maintenance staff.
The house is a bit dated and did show some wear and tear, especially in the downstairs play area.
The owner was a delight to work with and very accommodating to our needs.
Comfortable for large groups, great location
My family has rented large houses in vacation spots all over the country for extended family vacations for 30 years (we had 18 people this year), and this is one of the best places we have stayed. It was very comfortable for all of us. The description and photos in the listing are accurate and the property was clean and well maintained. The owner was very easy to work with and the local manager was very responsive to the one small issue that came up when we were there. We cooked most all meals in the well stocked kitchen (and on the grill) and everything we needed was there and worked well. The large pool area was very nice, and being surrounded by grass and trees, was very comfortable and private. The town of Manchester and the harbor and the nearby Singing Beach are all an easy walk from the house and are all very attractive. This is a very beautiful spot in a very beautiful part of the country. The neighborhood the house is in is made up of well maintained very large properties, and lots of large trees. Beautiful! We took the train on day trips to Boston and Salem, and went on a whale-watching trip out of Gloucester - all very fun and easy to do. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a very quiet, relaxing vacation.
Great for large groups!
This was a wonderful place, in a peaceful setting, for our extended family reunion. We had a large group of 16-18 people (a couple with jobs came for just a few days) aged 2 years to 67. It was great to have ample bedrooms and bathrooms for one and all and never run out of hot water for showers or laundry! The kitchen was well equipped and easy to work in; we ended up eating breakfast and dinner at “home” most days. We enjoyed eating together at the long dining room table that also accommodated our bananagram and card games late into the night. There are spaces for gathering en masse, as well as quiet getaways to relax with a book. The young ones made use of the clean and inviting pool and the well stocked playroom. The elders enjoyed daily walks through the peaceful neighborhood filled with palatial homes and their grounds.
My family has a tradition of enjoying interesting homes, inside and out, and this house and the surrounding neighborhood more than met the approval of the architects in our group. Both Manchester’s town center and lovely Singing Sands beach are an easy pleasant walk or drive away. Darrell, the person who manages the property, was attentive and responsive to concerns, when they arose. The owners are also implementing a few suggestions to make it an even more enjoyable experience for future renters.
