The Rocky Mountains of Colorado have always had a special place in our hearts. I was born and raised here in Colorado and was able to climb each of the 54 '14ers' in our beautiful state. My wife and I have spent many days climbing and skiing these wonderful mountains. We now have the blessing of creating new mountain memories with our three children.
Seth Williams purchased this chalet in 2014
We were blessed to find an amazing mountain home situated on a mountain lake. A true rarity in Colorado! We have enjoyed days playing on the water, fishing, hiking, mtn biking. Not to mention the towns of Empire, Georgetown and Idaho Springs offer great food, entertainment and shopping. All this and only a few minutes to some the of the best skiing in the country.
Private Mountain equipped with a canoe and kayak. The custom built deck and hot tub overlooking the lake and mountain vista is 'priceless'
I can't think of one negative thing to say about this place. The cabin is beautiful and the views are spectacular. There is plenty of privacy throughout the home and our large group fit comfortably for several days. Seth, the owner, was also a great host. He helped answer questions regarding the property and local amenities. Everyone's only question was, "when are we coming back?"
We had the best time here. BBQ, fishing, hiking, kayaks, rafting near by, and much more. This house is full of entertainment for both adults and children. Some reviews complained about no cable TV. I'm sure if Seth thought it was necessary then there would be cable. The whole point of this getaway. . Is to getaway! There's wifi but make your trip a no phone zone and no tv. Why stay on a mountain with a private lake only to be inside watching TV. The idea is to have family time and bond. Soak up and appreciate the beauty of nature. This place is perfect for you if that is what your searching for. :)
As we drove up the road paralleling the lake i kept asking is it this one, or this one? To our delight it was the one on the end and the placement and design of the house is picture perfect. Seth met us at the house and was a great host, we kept in touch via text when we had questions on the house.
The house is huge, it was a one story with an addition on the top. The top floor looks like something out of magazine. The bottom floor plan was a little funky - one of the bedrooms is accessed only through the second master bedroom. The good news is it fit our family of 7 perfect (could have added a person to the bunk bed and another on the futon upstairs). Internet worked fine for email and internet surfing.
We skied Arapahoe Basin about 50 minutes away. Pre-purchased tickets and saved. Next day went to Breckenridge which was only a few miles further then A Basin. Visited Georgetown. Lots of places to explore.
Only recommendation for improvement is get basic TV (it would have been nice to see football games - the bars in Empire were closed on New Years night). There is a big tv and dvd player. Definitely would come back. Thank you.
This was an excellent get-away. Off the beaten path it was easy to access nonetheless. And Seth has done a nice job making this at once a high-end yet reasonably priced place suitable for both kids and adults alike.
Regarding the area: Empire had basic food, groceries just a couple minute drive back to "town". Georgetown's larger shopping, eating venues were only a few minutes drive. Loveland for skiing took me about 20-25 minutes drive due to winter driving conditions - not a big deal. From the Mtn House - driving to Winter Park in the winter may too prove easier than driving to Breck, Key, AB...definitely than Vail; that is, being on the East-side of the Tunnel avoids much of the rough driving, traffic delay and expense, for that matter, encountered in Summit County or points West, if you will.
While we have Epic local passes and enjoy staying in and playing West of the Tunnel - Seth's place has now opened up a whole other area to us well within driving distance...and yet with all the benefits of a spacious, well-maintained & well-appointed lake-side, more secluded vacation home. Good stuff!
Thanks again, Seth. Katie, the kids and I hope to return in 2015.
-Andrew in Denver
We recently spent a few days at this home with another family and had an amazing time.
First of all, the location is great. We live in Denver metro and it took us less than an hour to get there. The home is situated on a scenic lake with breathtaking panoramic views. The property is cozy, but very grand. It is listed as 5 bedrooms, but seems to sprawl on and on from each area of the home. The den area was my favorite spot, with large windows that overlook the lake and mountains. Our kids especially loved the game room, which has a pool table, air hockey, darts and a vintage Ms. Pac-Man arcade game. The deck and hot tub are awesome!
We visited in late November, so the lake was frozen. That didn't stop us from enjoying the outdoors, as the ice was thick enough go out and play on the lake….bring your ice skates! There are some good hiking trails not far from the property. There is actually a trail that will lead you all the way to downtown Georgetown. Also, this is centrally located to several Rocky Mountain destinations.
This place is great and we would recommend staying any time of year. We are actually planning to come back this summer for a family gathering.
We love this place! Its right on the water. The kids loved jumping off the dock into the mountain lake. There were tons of fish to catch, which made it easy and so fun for the kids. We loved exploring the numerous paths and trails. There is even an old gold mine to hike to! The hot tub was so relaxing and the views from the back deck are amazing! The cabin had plenty of space for multiple families. We found the location very convenient with easy access to the ski resorts, food and mountain activities. We will definitely be coming back!
