About Suzan Naar

We live in Marietta and have two homes in the Blue Ridge area. We work busy hectic jobs and find the North Georgia mountains the perfect relaxing getaway. We can just relax or if we feel more active there are hundreds of thing to do.

Suzan Naar purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Suzan Naar chose Northwest High Country

The soaring ceilings of the great room and the mountain views were what attracted us to this cabin. It is nicely tucked away allowing for seclusion yet close to the Toccoa River for water sports, fishing, fun and close to the quaint town of Blue Ridge for shopping, antiquing, dining, a scenic train ride and much more.

The master bedroom with a corner Jacuzzi tub is inviting as well as the hot tub on the first floor. You can even roast marshmellows around the fire pit. This home is extremely close to the Toccoa River.

The ambiance of the fireplace makes Bear's Best extra cozy!

We ran away from our hectic lives and escaped to Bear's Best to reconnect as a family. From the first night this cozy cabin felt like home. The views from the multiple decks were spectacular, including the amazing stars that you can’t see in the city. The mountain air was cool enough for us to enjoy time outside; running around the yard, investigating different types of bugs, flowers and moss and watching the hummingbirds and a turkey vulture. It seemed we were the only bears around, although we heard rumors to the contrary. During the days, after tiring from playing and exploring the area, we rested on one of the decks and played dice games from the cabins game collection. At night, we cuddled on the couch and watched movies from the cabins movie collection. The owners thought of everything we may have needed, including small details in the kitchen making it easy to whip up dinner or a light snack in a jiffy. The cabin had quick access to town where there were a number of nearby attractions. Our host, Suzan, had guides available for us to review before heading out into the wilds of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We found some excellent hiking and fishing spots, and a great, local restaurant right on the Toccoa River. After a long day of hiking, the jetted tub is a fabulous way to relax those sore muscles. Our trip was a time of relaxation and bonding, which we will never forget and can’t wait to return to this home away from home in the mountains.

Pleasant, nice views, roomy

  • 3 of 5

Almost impossible to get in and out except with 4 wheel or all wheel drive vehicle. Road to cabin is extremely steep with washboard ruts. Cabin itself is comfortable, well equipped. Could use rocking chairs on the back deck :)

Owner's Response: Susan, You are correct there is one steep part of the road right as you exit the driveway. That is why we send driving instructions suggesting that you back up and get a straight shot up the road rather than trying to turn sharply and ascend a gravel road. Truthfully, this is not a steep road compared to many roads in the area. The road does not require 4 wheel drive especially if you follow our driving directions. Literally 100's of guests have done fine. The washboarding of the road you speak about is due to rain and we have had a lot of rain this summer. You were upset that the road was steep before you even arrived so I offered you a cancellation which you refused. Our policy does not allow for last minute cancellations but I offered one anyway because I knew you were not happy. Still you refused my offer. The fact is that the North Georgia Mountains have mostly steep, narrow, gravel roads that is part of the mountain experience. Gravel roads can change from day to day due to weather and in remote areas the roads are often maintained by the homeowners associations so they are not re-graded and graveled after every rain. We are sorry you had a hard time driving but given that we offered you a last minute cancellation and you refused, I really don't know what more we could have done. When you go to the North Georgia Mountains you should anticipate gravel roads that are steep, narrow and bumpy in places.

Peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week of peace and quiet. We love the view of the mountains while rocking in the rocking chairs. It is remarkably clean considering it is a dog friendly cabin. If you don't like the smell of well water you will have to use the right sink. Bring water. Finally, If you are unsure of your driving skills you need an AWD or 4WD vehicle.

The cabin was exactly how the pics were. It was beautiful

  • 4 of 5

My sister paid for all of this for me as a college graduation gift. We didnt do much sight seeing because I just wanted to relax all day literally.(and save money). The cabin was so cozy and the view was freakin amazing! The jacuzzi and garden tub was everything! I was a little paranoid at first because I thought about the wild animals but it was peaceful. The cabin was more than accommodating. The downside of the trip was when my mother got stuck on the edge of the hill trying to go to the nearby Ingles. We were deathly afraid. All of this could have been avoided if we would've glanced at Mrs. Naar's driving instructions again. Because of this I had to spend an extra 125$ that I didn't have for a tow truck. I hate that this happened but it was a lesson learned. I had an encounter with a lizard in my room on the third floor, but my mother just opened the door and led the lizard to it. One thing I didn't like were the excess spider webs everywhere and the opening right by the jacuzzi. That's only because i'm a wuss. Overall, good trip. We made the best of it and on the last day, we followed directions and conquered the hill!

Property was beautiful as heaven the water there was not

  • 2 of 5

Excellent view and beautiful structure. Water in hot tub was nasty on arrival and went to brush my teeth and water smelt of sewer. Don't mean to give bad review because everything except for the water was a 20 out of 10. But we all need water to survive.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry to hear about this experience in your review. The email we send with the directions and key code clearly tells guests to check the cabin and make sure everything is as expected and if there is anything that needs attention the guest should contact us as soon as possible. We would have happily corrected anything you needed but we were not contacted so we cannot correct things we do not know about. This cabin is on a community well so if there was a problem with the well water we would have had to call the well service and the problem would have caused a problem with all 12 cabins on that well. None of our neighbors reported water problems and they are all on the same well. However, had you reported either of these issues to us we would have drained and cleaned the hot tub and contacted the well company. This sort of thing is the exact reason we ask you to contact us if there is a problem! Our cleaners drain and clean the spa after each guest so if the spa was "nasty" for whatever reason we would have sent a cleaner to re-clean it but you did not contact us.
