About Brian Mann
Brian and Leslie fell in love with Baywood Park 11 years ago, when they happened upon this wonderful hidden gem. Nestled on a little peninsula jutting out into the tidal estuary at the south end of Morro Bay. Surrounded by state parks and with the sound of waves crashing in the distance, this has been our most cherished refuge and source of peace. We are so glad we can share a bit of this special place with our guests.
Brian Mann purchased this Cottage in 2003
Why Brian Mann chose Los Osos
Close, easy stroll, to the little village downtown of Baywood Park, close to the Bay on both sides. A quiet street, with wonderful neighbors.

Cozy, quiet cottage close to the water
Great quiet, clean, cozy cottage with all the necessities. Quiet neighborhood! Great location. We will definitely return if in the area again.
Perfect way to combine visiting our college student with a relaxing get-away
This really is a lovely cottage about 20 minutes from Cal Poly. It is comfortable, quiet and nicely decorated. Our college student could have stayed with us on the futon if she wanted to (she didn’t). We were happy to discover this Baywood neighborhood just a 5 minute walk to the water. There are some good coffee and restaurant options and even a labyrinth you can walk to. We would definitely stay here again!
For less than the price of a boring hotel room, you will be patting yourself on the back for choosing this little gem of a cottage. Off the beaten track in a sleepy neighborhood, the private cottage is behind a house, down a boardwalk path and through your own trellised garden gate. Near the Elfin forest, nature preserves and Montana de Oro state park ( don’t miss Spooners Cove beach and the bluff walk), and ideally located for day trips. My highlights were the Monday farmers market from 2-4 in Los Osos, happy hour and dinner at the Blue Heron and having wine outside by the fire pits. ( miss the crowds on Monday!). Wednesday tour of Port Saint Luis Lighthouse just south, if you like history and amazing views. The ride up the skinny road that winds up the mountainside is worth the $20! Make a reservation online ( only W and Sa) and give yourself time to find the parking area. Afterwards have lunch or dinner at Fat Cats ( halibut fish and chips!). South to Pismo Beach and the Monarch Butterfly preserve, tour the Luffa farm. North to Morro Beach... do not miss the sunset at Bayside Cafe in the Park. Check their hours, dinner only on the weekends, no reservations, first come, first served... great food. Also spend a day at Hearst Castle and San Simeon or Cambria. Moonstone Beach has a mile long board walk above the rocky coast and a campground at the north end with bathrooms. I loved this beach! On Sunday I ate at the local golf club ( served until noon) and be sure and ask if there is any music planned on the green! And of course go to San Luis Obispo to the History museum and see the mission. You are on the mission trail, so lots of history here. This is also a great place to walk along the creek and shop. Go to Le Petite Bistro for a croque madame sandwich and a private patio. Don’t forget wine tasting from SLO to The south and also Paso Robles. End your day on your own private deck in a lounge chair under the twinkle lights. You have your own lemon tree! I loved my stay here!
Margie, what a pleasure. Your writing is so elegant and fun. What a gift to Leslie and me. I hope it will be ok to quote your review. I do hope also you can visit again. This is a travel guide for our times. Thank you.
Quiet tucked away tiny cottage. Ideal for two adults. The bed was amazingly comfortable! We drove into San Luis Obispo every day to visit our son in college. We wanted to be outside of town and it was just right.
los osos retreat
This is our second stay here and this time around we were able to explore downtown Los Osos, and the surrounding area. The weather was beautiful at this time of year. One day of rain but we were out exploring. The cottage is nicely appointed with all of the items needed to enjoy a home cooked meal. The bed is very comfortable. There are video to view also and books to read. Very relaxing, quient ,and peaceful. A great place to get away from it all.
Just as great as last year.
One of those soft tub spas would be a perfect addition.
If you want to just kick back and relax, it's perfect, if you want to explore one of the most beautiful areas in the world, you have a perfect home base. Great restaurants within easy walk or drive. Fresh Ocean air. Friendly people everywhere you go. Small mountain town type atmosphere right on the Bay.
