About this property
Luxury Treetop Cottage | Artist's Retreat | Walk to Highlands Main St
One-of-a-kind artist's studio nestled in the treetops of Highlands, NC — where luxury meets the forest canopy.
Welcome to Adirondack Cottage — a former artist's studio transformed into one of Highlands' most extraordinary private retreats. Perched among ancient hemlock trees and wrapped in old-growth rhododendrons, this iconic two-bedroom cottage earns its beloved nickname, "the treehouse," within moments of arrival. With dramatic 20-foot vaulted ceilings, skylights, a spa-inspired slate shower, and artisan décor around every corner, this is a stay that guests return to year after year. Best of all? Main Street Highlands — the Southeast's premier mountain dining and shopping destination — is a flat, half-mile walk from your front door.
The Cottage Adirondack Cottage's cedar shake exterior and antique windows hint at the character waiting inside. A surrounding screen of rhododendrons and hemlocks delivers complete privacy, making the property feel like a private treehouse deep in the forest — even though you're steps from town. Inside, the soaring open-plan main floor is flooded with natural light from multiple skylights and original windows. Wood-paneled walls, bold colorful accents, and one-of-a-kind artisan touches give the space a warmth and creativity that reflects its artistic origins. This isn't a generic vacation rental — every detail was chosen with intention.
Bedrooms & Sleeping Arrangements Primary Bedroom — King bed with premium memory foam mattress, flat-screen Smart TV, private hallway access Guest Bedroom — Queen bed with premium memory foam mattress, adjacent to main living area Bathroom — Spa-inspired slate walk-in shower (shared, accessible from main hallway)
Memory foam throughout — guests consistently call the beds among the most comfortable they've slept in.
Living Spaces The heart of the cottage is a dramatic L-shaped great room anchored by 20-foot ceilings and a wall of skylights. The fully equipped kitchen opens to a charming bistro dining nook, while the living area provides a cozy retreat after a day of exploring. A hallway lined with built-in bookshelves connects the main space to the primary bedroom and bathroom — perfect for unwinding with a novel on a rainy Highlands afternoon. Two red Adirondack chairs on the front porch complete the picture, set among the hemlocks with the sounds of the forest all around.

Closet thing to have having a second home…
Linens are clean, decor is familiar and the kitchen is always stocked with all you need to cook or bake. There’s always a room to read a good book & close enough to walk into town to make a priceless memory.

We loved staying in Adirondack cottage,
Adirondack is a " must stay in" cottage. It is well appointed with
amenities, cozy yet roomy and is in walking distance to Main Street.
There are plenty of books if you want to relax on the deck and read.
Or you can enjoy the convenient location to shopping and eating. We definitely plan to return here again.
The property was amazing. Super clean, interesting architecture, easy access & convenient to downtown. Also, quiet, calm streets in immediate area for dog walks or runs.

Fabulous stay in this well-appointed cottage
My husband and I enjoyed six days in the beautiful Adirondack Cottage with our golden retriever. We enjoyed easy access to area hiking trails each day, and this cottage was a welcome oasis at the end of each day. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. The living area was cosy and relaxing. The bed was delightfully comfortable. Every square inch of the cottage is thoughtfully and tastefully decorated with high-end and durable furnishings. We intend to come back; this place exceeded our expectations in every way.
So enjoyed my stay! Everything was absolutely perfect!!Karen

Cozy cottage with an easy walk to town
We’ve stayed at the Adirondack Cottage multiple times and absolutely love it. The home is incredibly cozy and has everything we need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Check-in and check-out are always super straightforward. We especially enjoy sitting out on the front porch—it’s so peaceful and the perfect spot to unwind. The location is ideal, just a short walk to town for restaurants and shops. Overall, it’s always a great experience and we look forward to coming back again!
Adirondack Cottage was so comfortable and beautifully designed with a well stocked kitchen and comfortable bedrooms. Was just the quiet, relaxing place we needed for a few day retreat and would definitely come back again.
We really enjoyed our stay. The property is beautiful and as advertised. Quaint small space for a couple or family or four. Kitchen is well appointed. There were tons on blankets and books everywhere!
We needed some R and R in a beautiful setting and that’s exactly what we found in this lovely treehouse. It was perfect!

Hosted by Elevate Highlands Luxury Cabin Rentals
We're not a property management company that handles other people's homes. Every rental in the Elevate portfolio is a property we own, personally curate, and pour genuine care into — and guests feel that difference the moment they arrive. Elevate specializes in upscale boutique vacation rentals in and around Highlands, NC — one of the Southeast's most beloved mountain destinations. Our properties range from a legendary Joe Webb-designed treehouse to a luxury ridge lodge to a downtown loft steps from Main Street. Each one has its own distinct character, but all share the same signature: warm wood walls, intentional design, functional luxury, and spaces that feel like somewhere, not just somewhere to sleep. What sets us apart is simple — we care about the experience, not just the transaction. From setting the perfect ambiance before you arrive to sharing our insider list of area favorites, we're invested in making your stay genuinely unforgettable. It's why so many of our guests come back year after year, and why we know many of them by name. When you book with Elevate, you're not booking a rental. You're booking a place you'll want to return to.
Why they chose this property
Adirondack Cottage isn't just a place to stay in Highlands — it's the kind of place people talk about long after they leave. A former artist's studio perched among ancient hemlock trees and old-growth rhododendrons, this two-bedroom retreat earns its nickname "the treehouse" the moment you arrive. There is simply nothing else like it in Highlands. The soaring 20-foot vaulted ceilings, cascading skylights, spa-slate shower, and one-of-a-kind artisan décor deliver a luxury experience wrapped in genuine mountain character — the kind of charm that can't be manufactured or replicated. Then there's the location. Tucked on a rare flat loop just a half-mile from Main Street, you can walk to Highlands' best restaurants, boutique shops, and galleries — and return each evening to complete privacy, surrounded by forest on all sides. This is an owner-operated property, personally curated and maintained to the highest standard. Our guests return year after year — many by name — because once you've stayed here, nowhere else in Highlands quite compares. The treehouse. The treetops. The one that everyone remembers.
