About Mark and Joni Oliver

We are Mark and Joni Oliver and we live in Knoxville about an hour and 15 min. from Gatlinburg. We both love the mountains and spend weekends there as often as we can.

Mark and Joni Oliver purchased this condo in 2014

Why Mark and Joni Oliver chose Gatlinburg

We chose High Chalet for it's magnificent views year round. From our balcony and windows, the mountain views including Mt. LeConte, one of the highest points in the Smoky's, are outstanding. In the winter Ober Gatlinburg skiing can be viewed night or day. Across the parking lot Sevierville is below you and the view on a clear day is for miles. Even the fireworks at Dollywood when they close each evening can be seen. Our local wildlife, bears, deer, turkeys, etc. stroll through the parking lots and green areas frequently.

Everyone here, owners and visitors are always so friendly!

What makes this condo unique

High Chalet Condos, at the end of Ski View Drive is one of the highest points you can stay without camping. It is approximately 3300 feet above sea level. The drive from the condo to Gatlinburg is always scenic anytime of year. We feel almost anyone can find something to do within 30 minutes of the condo be it hiking, skiing, sightseeing, golf, rafting, shopping, or just relaxing at the pool.

very nice

the condo was beautiful, loved the cabin feel. we had all the soap, paper towels, bathroom tissue and dish detergent we needed, that was a plus, furniture was comfortable, the beds were great! slept great! the trip up the mountain wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. and we saw a bear the second night we was there, my step daughter works nights back home so at 2:00 in the morning she couldn't sleep, she went outside on the front to get some fresh air and heard something , she walked out into the parking lot, because we had told her bears like to get into garbage, and she saw a bear on top of the garbage can up the hill from our condo, a safe distance thankfully...she woke us up and he was inside looking out when we got down to see him, he climbed out while we were standing there and went behind another unit, he was in front of building 5 and we were in 3...that was pretty awesome, he was BIG and beautiful. so all in all we had a great trip and enjoyed the condo! ^_^

Owner's Response: Bonnie, Thank you for your review! Glad you enjoyed our remodel and you found the furniture and beds great! Nothing like a good nights sleep while on vacation. :) I will let my wonderful housekeeper know of your appreciation of supplies. :) Glad you had the opportunity to meet our "wildlife neighbors" --- and stayed at a distance! Bears are beautiful animals. We are so glad they have returned to the Smoky Mountains so quickly after the fires. It is sad to see humans not locking up the garbage containers though as A fed bear is a dead bear. :( We do hope you will come for a return visit! M and J

Owners, Mark and Joni were very friendly and always available for any questions! Saw some bears on the drive back to the condo just around the corner from our room! Perfect place for a small family!

  • 4 of 5

The condo was a great place for my family of 4. The drive to the condo wasn't what we expected, as the condo is pretty much at the very top of the road. The views on the way up and down were beautiful! Even got to see a mama bear and a couple cubs trying to get in someone's trash. It took some time to get up and down so if we went to town, it was for the day.

Owner's Response: Candance, So glad you and your family had a great vacation! Yes, we are at the top of the mountain, where we love it! The views are definitely worth the drive up. We seem to find that our guests are ready to get out of 'the rat race' and are excited to get to the mountains where time slows down and relaxing is easy! Hopefully, you will come back and if need be we will drive you back up the mountain 😊 Mark and Joni
