About Mark and Joni Oliver
We are Mark and Joni Oliver and we live in Knoxville about an hour and 15 min. from Gatlinburg. We both love the mountains and spend weekends there as often as we can.
Mark and Joni Oliver purchased this Condo in 2014
Why Mark and Joni Oliver chose Gatlinburg
We chose High Chalet for it's magnificent views year round. From our balcony and windows, the mountain views including Mt. LeConte, one of the highest points in the Smoky's, are outstanding. In the winter Ober Gatlinburg skiing can be viewed night or day. Across the parking lot Sevierville is below you and the view on a clear day is for miles. Even the fireworks at Dollywood when they close each evening can be seen. Our local wildlife, bears, deer, turkeys, etc. stroll through the parking lots and green areas frequently. Everyone here, owners and visitors are always so friendly!
What makes this Condo unique
High Chalet Condos, at the end of Ski View Drive is one of the highest points you can stay without camping. It is approximately 3300 feet above sea level. The drive from the condo to Gatlinburg is always scenic anytime of year. We feel almost anyone can find something to do within 30 minutes of the condo be it hiking, skiing, sightseeing, golf, rafting, shopping, or just relaxing at the pool.

Absolutely love this condo, it’s homey and so quite! Our vacation was a blast. We visited gatlinburg for the rod run and being able to get away from the noise was the best. We saw one bear and it was about 100ft from us when we came back to the room one night. Definitely a great experience and we will forever be booking with Mark and Joni Oliver!
Yippee! Thank you for your review! So glad you enjoyed your stay at The Oliver Lodge. We enjoy sharing "our little piece of heaven" with our guests. We agree, our condo is a very quiet place to relax and retreat after a busy day out! The quite complex brings out our furry neighbors as well. :) So glad you were able to see some of the wildlife. Can't wait to have you back and hope you will tell your friends and family about us! Our reviews bring in wonderful guests like you! We look forward to having you back, "our forever friends! :) Mark and Joni
Great for our family of 4
Great place with a wonderful view!
So glad you enjoyed your stay and the wonderful views!
Very nice home feel condo.
Very mice, enjoyed our stay.
Great condo in a "away from it all" location but Smokeys and Gatlinburg are easily accessible!
My sister and I were looking for an "away from it all" vacation spot and Oliver Lodge was it. The condo was perfect for this. The two beds and baths was more than enough space for the two of us. There are small touches everywhere from blankets by the fireplace, area to do magazines, many towels folded super cute and even little soaps. The King size bed has a memory foam topper and was very comfortable. Great water pressure and the place was very clean.
The balcony was a great addition. My sister and I are breakfast outside when weather allowed. If you look over the balcony to the east there is a BEAUTIFUL view of the moutains.
The location was up very high, above the over Gatlinburg ski park, and was slightly terrifying to drive to by this Midwesterner. By the 2nd trip out however, it was no big deal as long as you take it slow. I drove the roads in rain, snow and darkness with no issue.
The condo was about 10-15 minutes from Gatlinburg. Close enough when you want to do the tourist thing, but far enough away to not deal with it.
It's also just 20 to 30 minutes from different hiking trails and about an hour to the Appalacian trail and North Carolina State line.
We hiked to Grotto Falls (2nd hardest, so worth it but watch out for falling icicles and sloshy mud), Cataract falls (super easy, worth it), Laurel Falls (3rd hardest, worth it, paved, try to go super early yo avoid crowds), and to the Alum "Caves" (super hard, gratifying, even if you only make it half way there's A pretty neat arch to climb though). We also drove through Cades Cove which offered great views but may be better suited if visiting in late spring/summer.
We also visited Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort. It could use some updating and we probably wouldn't visit the mall again, but enjoyed snow tubing and riding the tram down the mountain, especially after dark. The lights in the mountains are beautiful. You can see Oliver Lodge while there as well!
We ate at Smokey Mountain Brewery ( 2nd favorite), Calhoun's (similar to SMB but with barbecue), and J T Hannah's (Loved it. Try the French dip).
We Did not see any bears. It was early March so I'm sure they are hibernating still. We did see wild turkeys, deer, a raccoon, and more wild turkeys during our visit to the smokeys.
To sum it up, the Condo was in a great location for accessing mountains and the towns, but far enough away for peace and quiet. HIGHLY recommend it, the walk to Grotto Falls and J T Hannah's!
WOW! What a newsy review. Thank you for taking the time to give your explicit review. Mark and I enjoyed reading about your adventures and your favorite things to do in The Smoky's! I am sure our upcoming guests will appreciate as much! Yes, the Spring, Fall, and Summer are the times to see our bears! :) We will look forward to your next visit!
Sincerely, Joni and Mark
The Oliver Lodge was perfect for our weekend getaway!
We loved our stay here. No complaints whatsoever. Quiet, great views, comfortable bed. The inside is decorated like a rustic cabin and really well done. We would definitely stay here again.
Thank you Katie for your Wonderful review! We look forward to your return visit and hope you will tell your friends about us. Sincerely, Mark and Joni
couldn't get any better
Entering the condo was the immediate feel of comfort. The cabin decor and fireplace made you want to never leave. The view from the family room of the slopes were amazing (we stayed during winter season so snow covered them). We enjoyed our coffee on the balcony over looking the mountain tops, watching the clouds blow in and out. Will definately be back. Missing it already!
Amanda, Thank you for taking the time to give us your explicit review! So happy you enjoyed your stay and we will look forward to your return visit. Mark and I feel the same way as we enjoy our little piece of heaven and feel life just "couldn't get any better" while we are up high on the mountain! :) M&J
