About Tom and Peggy O'Malley
Tom and Peggy were both born in Atascadero and love to show off their home town. Currently Tom is the town mayor and Peggy is a 6th grade school teacher. They raised three children in Atascadero and now love having their grandchildren visit. They are both experts on local history and what there is to do in the area for all ages. Tom grew up next door at a house he and his dad built. When not busy with other things, you will find Tom in the garden and Peggy in the kitchen!
Tom and Peggy O'Malley purchased this Estate in 1995
Why Tom and Peggy O'Malley chose Atascadero
Just minutes from downtown but containing many years of history, Portola Inn offers classic comfort, serene surroundings and picturesque vistas. It's the perfect getaway from the hectic world and a great headquarters from which to explore the exciting venues of the Central California Coast.
What makes this Estate unique
Enjoy a peaceful hilltop with abundant wildlife. It is especially relaxing to watch the quail, deer, and squirrels. If you want to take a walk, sit in a private area, have a picnic there are plenty of options. Ask about our fire pit, picking produce from the garden, or picking fruit from the orchard. We love to share.

Our stay was wonderful. Tom met us upon our arrival. He was a perfect host. This property is beautiful inside and out. I highly recommend this property. Thank you for our stay.
Lovely home on a hill
It's quite a treat to stay on a 1920s estate which still has trees planted when Atascadero was a utopian colony! And with the mayor no less! Our family of three had a great time on the estate — our preschooler loved Mr. McGregor's Garden — and off, seeing the beautiful city hall and visiting wine country (Ancient Peaks was a good tip from Tom). Great place!
I can summarize it in one word B_ E_ AUTIFUL!!!!!!
We one rents out anything sometimes it's like rolling the dice. This one came up 7's it was fantastic.
A beautiful venue
We had our mother's 90th birthday party in the garden at the Inn and our family stayed in the master suite. We had a wonderful time! There was a heat wave but our party under the trees was pleasant. Our rooms were conveniently located just up the path from the party. The beds were really comfortable, even the pull out sofa. Jana, who helps coordinate the events was so helpful with her positive attitude and special attention given to our older guests. Tom helped us feel at home and Peggy helped us with many details. I really enjoyed the setting--just beautiful.
I enjoyed my stay in the Master Suite at the Portola Inn. The tastefully decorated room was gorgeous and immaculate. The bathroom was very large and luxurious. The view was spectacular, and the property has a rich history that the owners love sharing with guests. I absolutely love this place!
Perfect Getaway Rental
The Portola Inn was a very quaint and charming and a great place to relax and get away from it all. My sister, mom and I spent an enjoyable weekend here. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming and upon our arrival, the O'Malley's gave us a bottle of champagne and Peggy made us homemade cobbler that was absolutely delicious! The room was clean and oh so beautiful. Thank you Tom and Peggy for being such wonderful hosts during our stay in Atascadero. I would definitely stay here again.
Portola Inn is centrally located and provides easy access to wine tasting, beaches, lakes, and historic sites, including two California Missions and Hearst Castle.
