About Daniel Moth

Daniel and Jenny have known each other since 1993. They've lived in various European countries before emigrating to Seattle (WA) where they've been living since 2008. Daniel works at Microsoft, and Jenny is also a software developer. They have visited all the Hawaiian islands and fell in love with Maui, and specifically Kihei.

Kihei is the driest, sunniest of all of Maui, and it has the best underwater world with many dive/snorkeling sites including Molokini - a short trip from Kihei Boat Ramp. It is also very walk-able, and when you choose to drive you can find car parking easily (unlike other places on the island...).

We try to visit the island twice a year for 2-4 weeks each time, boogie boarding in Kamaole Beach III, snorkeling between Kamaole Beach I and II, and sometimes walking further south to Keawakapu Beach or driving to Big Beach. We try to eat all our meals on the lanai, watch the sunset every single day, and stroll up and down S Kihei Rd after a game of tennis or other activity...

Why Daniel Moth chose South Maui

Proximity to beach, ocean view, minimum noise, safety, privacy, affordable paradise lifestyle.

When choosing our Kihei condo the most important criteria was that it had to be somewhere across from Kamaole Beach I, II, or III - there is little point in travelling all the way to Maui and not be able to walk a few steps and be on one of the Top 5 beaches in Maui. Second criterion was Ocean View even from inside the unit - if you are going to be so close to the sea, why not be able to see it!

Then for units that met those criteria, there were factors that eliminated some of them. For example, ground floor units, because of the reduced privacy and safety, plus bugs can sometimes be an issue, so we wanted a higher floor. We also eliminated units that were directly on Kihei Rd, because the traffic noise seems to get trapped in those units, we wanted a quiet place. Finally, another feature of Kihei Akahi is that it has solid concrete walls and construction, whose benefits include better noise insulation from neighbors, and better temperature characteristics. Its two swimming pools, nicely manicured grounds, tennis court, and outside grills for BBQing were all bonus features!

What makes this condo unique

Kihei Akahi units in the D building have nice breezes flowing through when you leave open the entrance door (East) and the lanai door (West) - our lockable steel-screen secondary front door facilitates that. Also the two ceiling fans in the unit (and floor fan) help with air flow. Our condo has been very well maintained, very clean, and has had various upgrades. Unlike other condos in the building it doesn't have the popcorn ceilings that trap dirt, it doesn't have the older style louvered windows that accumulate grime, and it doesn't have carpets to capture dust/moisture. It also has matching island-style furniture throughout that we love! Our most recent remodel was the vanity in July 2017 - checkout the photos.

This is our second stay in D211. The location is convenient to all Kihei has to offer from the beach, shopping, excursions, fine dining and classic Maui adult beverages. The unit owners have gone above and beyond to carefully plan your vacation needs by providing all basic amenities. This unit has a great kitchen, modestly stocked for your cooking needs. All you need to do is pick up a few groceries and “Wa-la” you’re set for a wonder vacation experience ranging from cooking on the grill by the pool to cooking whatever you please from within. This condo has a great sunset view from the Lanai – which is one of the attractions that will keep you coming back for more…

If you want to stay in Kihei you don't even need a car! Besides easy walking there is also the public Maui bus service. But if you want to do the road to Hana (must-do activity on Maui), or go up Haleakala mountain (if heights and sunrises is your thing), or visit Wailea (for golfing, or a great luau feast), or Makena (for horse riding), then you'll need a car or to pay someone to drive you. If you get a car, you'll have your own private numbered car parking spot at Kihei Akahi. Though truth be told, parking is easy and free everywhere in Kihei, this is not West Maui!

In Kihei itself you have everything within walking distance from Kihei Akahi. In addition to the info right above, see the annotated map in the Photos for some information. This area is a particular paradise if you enjoy the soft-sand beaches and crystal-clear blue-green water: sunbathing, beach walking, frolicking, snorkeling, turtle-spotting, SCUBA diving, fishing, whale/dolphin watching, boogie/body boarding, surfing, kayaking etc. All boating activities depart from Kihei Boat Ramp which is walking distance from Kihei Akahi.

If you prefer sports outside the water, you can play basketball and baseball among other activities at Kalama Beach Park (walk north), volleyball at Kamaole Beach I, and you can enjoy free tennis at our very own grounds at Kihei Akahi!

For groceries and general stuff there is Safeway, Whalers General Store, ABC store, and a local 24-hour Foodland - all within walking distance. You can also drive to Costco or Whole Foods.

Food, snack, and beverage choices are abundant all along South Kihei Road, so much so that we wouldn't know where to begin for recommendations from the myriad options. We suggest that on your first day you walk from Kihei Akahi up S Kihei Rd northbound and you'll see what we mean. Or take the car, but walking is good exercise and pleasant in Kihei weather!

  • Shower with very good water pressure, and hot water. Installed in 2009 along with the toilet in the same room. Outside that room is the vanity area with a lot of storage space, sink, mirror, and extra closet space for towels. Further away from the vanity is a closet with the in-unit stackable washer and dryer inside. Also note there are external showers by the two pools, to help you leave all that sand outside the condo.

  • Matching island-style furniture in the bedroom: King size bed that sleeps very comfortably two adults, two nightstand tables with lamps, one dresser with 6 drawers and a large mirror on top of it. Newly (in 2014) installed modern windows with screen and curtain, good for letting in light and air. Between that and the ceiling fan you won't break a sweat even in the hottest months. There is also plenty of storage space in the closet with new closet doors installed in 2012. Closet doors have mirrors on them so you can check the progress on your tan!

Great place to stay!

This was a great place to stay in our favorite part of the island, Kihei/Wailea area. Since it was just my husband and I without our 4 kids this time, we were looking for something smaller and this was perfect! The unit was newly updated with new cabinets, granite countertops and tile floor. The grounds were well-kept and it was within walking distance to stores, restaurants and a trail and beaches we ran or walked on daily. We had a view of the upper pool and could see the ocean from the lanai. The man in the office was very helpful at check in and everyone was very friendly. They had snorkel gear, beach chairs, boogie boards, and beach towels to use. Sometimes the snorkel gear and beach chairs at the condos we've stayed at have been so used that we have to go rent gear. Not this time. It was all in great shape! Another great asset was the washer and dryer. We headed to the Island of Kauai for the second half of our stay and washed a few things before we left. We sure missed that when we stayed in Kauai at a condo that didn't have it! If you do any hiking into waterfalls, etc. having a washer and dryer is a great thing! The king-size bed was comfortable and the unit was nice and cool with just the fans and opening it to get a breeze through the unit. It was quiet (we couldn't hear our neighbors) which is not always the case. The kitchen was well-furnished too so we prepared a lot of our own meals. They have barbeques by the pool that we did not use but saw many families using. The selection of Hawaiian dvds and books (Maui Revealed is a must have) were a nice addition. We've never come in January before but highly recommend it. The whale-watching was remarkable and the binoculars the condo had made it so fun to watch from the beach. We went on a snorkeling/whale-watching trip with the Pacific Whale Foundation and it was one of the highlights of the trip. They were so knowledgeable of the whales behavior and the history of whales (hunting to where there were very few whales and their comeback and protection, etc.) We saw at least 20 or more whale on the trip not to mention the 20 or more we saw from the beaches where we relaxed and snorkeled. The only downfall is that our kids were at home and didn't get to see and learn about them too! It was a great trip and the owners were very helpful and checked in to make sure everything was to our liking. I would definitely recommend this to others!

Lovely, convenient location, great value

My husband and I generally spend our time in Maui in Kaanapali, but wanted to spend some time in southwest Maui. We are so glad that we did because of the multiple beautiful long sand beaches and many great snorkeling locations. This condo is located just across the street from Kamaole Beach Park II which is a picture perfect beach with a nice reef for snorkeling, restroom facilities and a shower to rinse off the sand. There are some trees that provide morning shade. It's also close to great places to eat and shopping within walking distance.

The condo itself is a spacious one bedroom overlooking a pool and has nice ocean views. The condo complex of buildings has lovely grounds with 2 pool areas (one with wifi), a botanical walk, and tennis courts. The unit was immaculately clean when we arrived and we were extremely impressed with the comfortable furniture, and supplies for recreation. There were beach chairs, boogey boards, tennis rackets, plenty of towels for the beach and for the bathroom, a comfortable bed with ample pillows. The kitchen has every appliance and plenty of pots and pans and supplies for food storage. It would be possible to fix a large meal including dessert without any problem. The building was was well-built and maintained and the rooms were quiet. We did not hear people walking above us or in the unit next to us. Despite the fact that the bedroom fronts on a walkway and parking, it was very quiet as well. There is a small in-window air conditioner for the living area which we did not need to use despite it being in the high 80's during our visit because we pulled the drapes in the very hot part of the afternoon and otherwise opened all the windows to the trade winds.

We would definitely return!

Amazing time

My husband and I visited Maui for our honeymoon and we had an awesome time! We love Maui and I highly recommend staying in Kihei or even staying at Daniel's condo. The condo is centrally located in Kihei with a couple restaurants and beaches within walking distance. The staff was also very friendly and helpful on the property. The condo was perfect size for two people, I don't recommend more than two, it might be a little crowded. Everything was nice at the condo. I liked that beach towels, two beach chairs, a small cooler, snorkel gear and other beach accessories were available to use. Daniel was very helpful though the whole planning for this trip. He answered all my questions very fast, mostly within the same day. Daniel also gave us recommendations that were going on locally that week or things Maui was known for. I also liked that the condo wasn't really far from the airport, about 35-45 min. We will definitely be back to visit! Thank you so much Daniel! You were an excellent host!

Nice upgrades

I have stayed in this building a few times over the years, and this particular unit had some nice updates. Folks in property management office were nice, and helpful, except for the older guy in the office who is a manager. Saw him outside the office and asked him a question, didn't seem like he wanted to deal with me. On a positive note Daniel, the owner, is very responsive and helpful. Definitely would stay there again.

Amazing Condo and Vacation

This was easily one of the best experiences I have had renting a condo. The condo was perfectly located in Kihei close to the best beaches and restaurants. It was fully stocked with all the essential items that we needed and was much better than other places that I have stayed. Daniel was great at keeping in touch with fun suggestions and responded to any questions we had immediately. I couldn't recommend this condo more and would definitely stay here again!

A great choice for your Maui vacation

We have stayed at many different condos in Kihei and this one is by far our favorite and is one that we would book again for our next trip!

Right from the start, Daniel was very responsive to emails and any questions we had were replied to very quickly. During our stay, he sent us a few emails with some ideas of things to see or do, and even though we have visited Kihei a number of times, it was nice to know he was thinking of us and wanted us to enjoy our stay.

The kitchen is well appointed with efficient trouble free appliances. The internet is the fastest we have ever had at a rental condo or hotel. As I need to work while on holidays, this meant more time for beach and less time working. Speaking of beach, the Tommy Bahama chairs and umbrella along with a couple of boogie boards were great to have use of. We had our own snorkel gear, but there is some provided if you don't.

You don't have a panoramic ocean view, but we were treated to a whale slapping it's tail at sunset one of the evenings in clear view from our Lanai. We spent a great deal of time there for meals or just the watching the sunset.

It is was clear from the start that Daniel wants his guests to enjoy themselves and feel at home away from home. We stayed for 3 weeks+ and the condo had everything we needed for our stay. The only reason I would have for not recommending this condo is that you might book it before I get a chance to for my next visit! And you will recommend it to your friends and so on.
