The ranch that this cabin (as well as the Phoenix Nest) sits on has been in operation by the Kassell family for more that 100 years. I grew up on this ranch and have a great love for the beauty with which God has provided for us here.

After a relaxing meal sit outside on the swing and take in the night skies where millions of stars can be seen. Settle into The Cabin for a quiet night where five can comfortably sleep in a queen and three twin beds.
Outside one can gaze at the pastoral setting of cattle, grazing deer, and many of the state’s rarest and most loved birds. For history buffs, there is a family cemetery with markers dating back a century. Or you might choose to sit out under the trees and relax to the sounds of nature and absorb the magnificent view of the Texas hill country.
Additionally, at The Cabin guests may find all sorts of outdoor activities in the Texas Hill Country such as hiking, catch and release fishing, bird watching, and stargazing. For the young or young at heart, nothing is more fun than bumping through the pastures to feed the cattle. For those who are seeking more activity, bring your horses or mountain bikes and ride the ranch, enjoy the views of the Hill Country. Pursue the trails that cattle have used on the ranch.
The Cabin at the Phoenix Nest is located midway between Llano and Mason off Highway 29. The cabin is nestled in a grove of trees overlooking the peaceful sight of cattle and horses grazing in a rock fenced pasture.
We enjoyed our stay at the Phoenix Nest immensely. The serenity and tranquility of this property was amazing. It was the perfect place for us to meet and share a special weekend together and we cannot wait to return. Thank you for adding to our book of awesome memories! P.S. The miniature donkeys are so sweet!!! They were delightful!! Daniel Rodriguez and GayLynn Fuentes
We loved being out on this property. It was quiet and beautiful! This is exactly why we went to this particular location. What a great time to go too! The land was blanketed with wild flowers as far as the eye could see! We also enjoyed all the wild animals, jack rabbits, deer and birds. Also the owners had six or so donkeys on the property. It was a fun to watch them play around in the pasture. You can bring fruits and vegetables for them as well. In which we did and had fun watching them eat from our hands. We wished we would've brought bikes to ride around on because there is so much road to travel on. One morning we went for a walk and we covered a lot of ground. This place is dog friendly so we did bring him. He loved it as well. He was chasing the donkey up and down the fence line. So funny! The yard is fenced off so you can let your animals have the run of the place if no one is at the other house. Yes, the other house. There is an old family farm house on the property too. It looked beautiful from the outside. We were just a party of two so the hunting cabin was perfect. However, if your looking for a bigger place the family home would be more suitable. The cabin was clean and comfy. It had everything you could need besides a toothbrush and food. Pots, linens, wine glasses, all there. However, its only rooms are the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. In the bedroom is the queen bed, bunk beds, and a couch with the T.V. So if you go there in hopes of hanging out in front of the T.V know that your doing it in the bedroom. That is not at all what we went there for, in fact we only turned it on once! The porch looks out over the pasture and the old windmill. This is where we spent most of our time. Bring bug spray! The family home is directly behind the cabin, about 100 yards or so. If your on the porch you can't see them and they can't see you. We did have another family come the day after we arrived and it wasn't difficult to share the space at all. In stead of the absolute silence though we heard an occasional voice. It wasn't a big deal. Overall a great experience! The weather was great for the most part, it did rain, but with the tin roof the sound was amazingly relaxing! We slept great! I would love to go back here again we in need of another quiet break!
