About Joan Reed
The ranch that this cabin (as well as the Phoenix Nest) sits on has been in operation by the Kassell family for more that 100 years. I grew up on this ranch and have a great love for the beauty with which God has provided for us here.
Why Joan Reed chose Llano
After a relaxing meal sit outside on the swing and take in the night skies where millions of stars can be seen. Settle into The Cabin for a quiet night where four can comfortably sleep in a queen bed and a set of bunk beds. Outside one can gaze at the pastoral setting of cattle, grazing deer, and many of the state’s rarest and most loved birds. For history buffs, there is a family cemetery with markers dating back a century. Or you might choose to sit out under the trees and relax to the sounds of nature and absorb the magnificent view of the Texas hill country. Additionally, at The Cabin guests may find all sorts of outdoor activities in the Texas Hill Country such as hiking, catch and release fishing, bird watching, and stargazing. For the young or young at heart, nothing is more fun than bumping through the pastures to feed the cattle. For those who are seeking more activity, bring your horses or mountain bikes and ride the ranch, enjoy the views of the Hill Country. Pursue the trails that cattle have used on the ranch. The Cabin at the Phoenix Nest is located midway between Llano and Mason off Highway 29. The cabin is nestled in a grove of trees overlooking the peaceful sight of cattle and horses grazing in a rock fenced pasture.

Cozy country cabin
Sweet cabin in tbe country was the perfect place to unwind and relax from our hectic work demands in the city.
Remote and Quiet, just what we were looking for!
Stay here if you want quiet, peaceful, raw nature! My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time staying in the main house of the Phoenix nest. We scampered around the property and made friends with the donkeys and hummingbirds. As a professional photographer I was looking for a staycation location where I could photograph sunset and night sky. We were not disappointed! We had a perfect hill country sunset and then enjoyed stargazing and the full moon! We also brought our bikes and rode around the trails through the ranch land. We felt so lucky to stay in the home that was built in the 1800's and had so much hill country charm we loved it! the claw foot tub was my favorite and we slept like bears in the comfortable king bed. We will definitely be back to enjoy the get away from city life!!
A beautiful location and peaceful stay
Exactly what I needed at the start of a long adventure across Texas, this wonderful little cabin was just the spot to rest and recharge. Great location, not so far away from Llano or Mason that you didn't want to go into town, but far enough away that you truly felt the peace of the wide open Texas countryside.
Thank you for letting us enjoy your beautiful ranch. It was the perfect get away for us.We will be back soon.

Great place! This place makes for a wonderful get away.
Peaceful and secluded
What a beautiful, peaceful place! The seclusion and quiet were exactly what we needed. At times we felt like we were the only 2 people on Earth. From an inquisitive squirrel to friendly miniature donkeys, to the musical sounds of the birds, we were constantly provided with the best entertainment from nature. We really enjoyed exploring and seeing the history of this ranch. And the fish were biting for hours the morning we visited the beautiful pond! The Guest House standing sentinel in the moonlight upon our arrival was a beautiful greeting that took us back in History.
The Cabin was so nice with everything we could possibly need. It was so comfortable and clean. We couldnt find the robes mentioned in the description, but that was the only thing we found lacking (if you can call that lacking).
The stars were absolutely amazing. The moon was full during our stay which provided its own beauty, but we were still able to see so many stars. And lots of shooting stars! And the sound of that wonderful windmill pumping water lulled us to sleep while we were laying around the campfire looking up at those stars.
Our plan was to use The Cabin as our base of operation, a place to sleep after touring the local Hill Country. But when we got there, we didn't want to leave to see anything else! We have found "our spot" and cannot wait to visit again!
