About Deborah Davis
Former "Corporate America", I retired after 30 years and started building designing, building and renting seasonal beach homes in Cape Porpoise village. I employ ONLY local people to help provide work for many who could not otherwise afford to stay in the Village that we all cherish. In my former life, we moved 12 times for my job, and I traveled extensively all over the world. From this I learned what I liked and didn't like staying "away from my home". I designed Lupine Lodge and Chickadee with those learnings in mind, trying to anticipate needs. I am sure I will get feedback about what to change or add etc, and I will always continue to try to improve.
Why Deborah Davis chose Cape Porpoise
A little house in town on over 1.5 acres came up for sale. The house was not up to code and could not be altered in size or location, and needed considerable work to make it clean and safe. So, the house came down and I created a private road--Porpoise Place off of Langsford Road. That private road now leads to two private driveways--one to Chickadee Cottage and one to Lupine Lodge. Both sit far back on the lot and overlook forever wild. Yet, 1-3 blocks away are 3 restaurants, a fish house, a market, an ice cream store, the library, an art gallery, etc. You can walk 1/2 mile to the Pier where here are 3 more restaurants, a working lobster pier and a gorgeous view of the ocean and Goat Island Lighthouse. And in a 2-4 mile drive you have access to the most popular Kennebunk beaches--Goose Rocks, Kennebunk Beach, Mother's Beach, Gooch's beach, Colony beach.

2018 New Year
The place is roomy, clean, well equipped and was easy to find. Must be a wonderful place to stay in the summer.
Thank you! Yes, your stay was smack in middle of the arctic air blast rocking the North East for almost 6 weeks now--and still no end in site. Come again in the summer!
Houses were very clean. Deborah the owner, was incredibly responsive to our questions. Houses had plenty of space and amenities for our party of 15. Homes were in a great location.
Close to beaches, shops etc.
With 11 adults and 2 kids, the space was more than enough with ample amount of bedrooms and bathrooms. The house itself was clean upon arrival and amazing with the two screened-in porches and firepit. The location of the house was perfect with a lobster market down the block and a small supermarket around the corner. It's also only a 10 min drive to Kennebunk. There was an issue with the heating/cooling system while we were there, but Deborah was always available via text message or a phone call and was very hospitable about it, offering to bring extra blankets if needed.
Overall, we would not hesitate to come back to Chickadee in the future.
Chickadee Cottage was a great home away from home. It was extremely comfortable, very well decorated
We had a family wedding in Kennebunkport on Labor Day weekend. Family was coming to town for this memorable event and wanted to stay close to one another. So some family stayed here while other families stayed in Porpoise Place. The homes were perfect for eating and playing together. The gathering places in the home provided space to play cards, share conversation and get ready for the wedding together. Thanks for such a comfortable, fun home.
Chickadee was the perfect family vacation house! Relaxing and peaceful but close to everything!
Chickadee Cottage was the perfect place for our group of 8 adults and two toddlers. Morning coffee and playtime with the little ones on the screened-in porches was precious. We loved the delicious meals at Chowder House, Nunan's Lobster, and Cape Porpoise Kitchen which are all within walking distance as well as being able to shop at Bradbury Market. It was a treat watching the lobsters being loaded off the pier while we looked at Goat Island Lighthouse. We loved the non-touristy vibe in Cape Porpoise while being close enough to Kennebunkport to enjoy Dock Square and beaches. Farm to Table which is directly across the street from the house is one of my favorite stores ever!
The house is beautifully decorated and very well laid out. The six comfy bedrooms with three on each side gave the grown-ups and little ones quiet spaces for naps and reading. The large living room had seating for everyone. The kitchen was well-appointed and we had everything we needed. The dining room which easily sat 10 and could probably seat 12 made for memorable family dinners. The large yard allowed us to play frisbee and soccer. The many tables gave us a place to put puzzles together--a family passion! Relaxing by the firepit and having s'mores was also a treat.
Deborah was incredibly responsive whenever we had questions and communicated regularly to keep us informed. The information in the house regarding things to do, check-out instructions etc. was organized and easy to understand. Everyone was so friendly and we were so sad to leave. We would rent this home again in a heartbeat! I highly recommend choosing Chickadee Cottage for your next vacation!
As my wife is quick to note, I'm particular and tend to have high(er) expectations than most. Chickadee and its owner, Deborah, blew away my expectations! Everything was exactly as presented! The house and grounds were spotlessly clean and immaculately maintained!
In today's world where most have forgotten the concept of Service, let alone actually apply it in their efforts, Deborah's care and attention to detail shows throughout the Chickadee property. As said, simply outstanding!!
We traveled from the Portland, OR region to rendezvous with family from PA and Upstate NY. All 13 of us would be delighted to stay here again and our family is already talking about a return visit!
We'd like to extend a heartfelt to Deborah for her professionalism, forthright honesty and warm hospitality throughout our stay. We loved visiting Maine and no doubt, having Chickadee as our 'home' for the week made our time there even more enjoyable!
P.S. Deborah - if you're ever in the Portland area, we'd welcome the opportunity to treat you and your husband to dinner as a thank you!

Rates & Availability
Additional information about rental rates
Please understand that there are in season and off season rates and they are up to date. I DO NOT negotiate from the posted in season and off season rates. If the calendar shows red it means someone has booked Chickadee. If it is gray or has a line through the dates, it means that someone has booked both Chickadee and Lupine together on my double site so Chickadee is not available. My rental rates are increasing very slightly for 2018. Should you wish to book now please call me at 207 730 1468 for those rates. However, I do not know if the State of Maine will raise the lodging tax that I must collect from you and pass on to them....if they do the last payment may have to be modified if I must collect additional tax. And if the cleaners raise their prices in 2018---wouldn"t be much--I have to pass that along as well.
