About Sara McGuire
Patrick and Sara McGuire are the owners of Royal Farms Inc, a fruit farm that they started in 1996. The farm has grown to include a farm market, bakery, and winery. They are so excited to offer a place on the farm for visitors to enjoy all that Northern Michigan has to offer.
Sara McGuire purchased this House in 2014
Why Sara McGuire chose Atwood
This house/ cottage is located adjacent to the Royal Farms U-Pick orchard and just a short walk through the orchard to the farm market where guests can get fresh baked goods and wine. While also being just a quick drive or nice walk to a Lake Michigan Beach, Antrim Creek Natural Area. Just a moment from US 31 the property is convenient to so many favorite Northern Michigan tourist communities, top notch golf course, fabulous foodie restaurants, and is the first stop on the BayView Wine Trail.
What makes this House unique
We absolutely love that this cottage captures all the beauty of Northern Michigan, the amazing sunsets overlooking Lake Michigan, expansive farm views, and quiet clear nights. Having our farm market just a short walk gives guests the opportunity to enjoy local foods and wines. A walk through the orchard for your morning scone and coffee, or meat pasty for lunch, or sipping some wines and hard cider all right from the farm.

Very clean private house near orchards.
Comfortable house with great amenities, comfortable beds, nice kitchen and good pots, pans and utensils. There is no WIFI OR TV, so if your plans are to work or watch the tube, you’re out of luck. The porch and fire pit are great additions. Bring storage containers if you plan on using the kitchen. All in all, I’d return again, the view is great and close to some beautiful beaches!
I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay! Yes, the house is definitely designed for relaxation and enjoyment of the scenery and surroundings! I've never had a request for storage containers for the kitchen but its a great tip...I'll plan to include those. I hope you will be able to visit again.
Excellent location, excellent host.
The goods far outweigh any bad, and the bad are easily fixed.
Sara is a great host, and responds very quickly. Thanks Sara.
The field out in front of house was perfect for our family, and every night whiffle ball games.
Having the orchard surround you was a beautiful setting, and we had a great view down to the lake.
House was very clean and fit our needs.
Fire pit was used nightly as well, great to have.
Royal farms for morning scone or pasties, and cider and wine tasting at night was fantastic.
Beach was 1.6 miles down one road, and we swam and found Petosky stones nightly.
Close to Charlevouix, torch lake, Bellaire was 30 min, Traverse 40 min, lake and beach 3 min.
The only not so bad things...
Coffee Maker - only a four cup terrible coffee maker.
Shower Head - Somehow the water misses you, makes it tough.
Fan - there is one ceiling fan in the master bedroom, and a window aircon in the other bedroom, but on a hot day, there is no way to cool the main areas or kitchen. A simple floor fan that you can move around would have made a difference.
So 3 thing under $100 total that would have made a large difference.
Overall Sara, Royal Farms, location close to Charlevouix, Lake, Torch, etc was fantastic and we would reserve for our family again.
Hope this is helpful.
I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay! You have a beautiful family, we enjoyed seeing you daily in the market and the tasting room! I was impressed by your three children and how polite they were. I do appreciate your feedback and always take the suggestions seriously, should you come back again I hope you will feel comfortable in letting me know your concerns while you are staying so that I can fix any problems right away. In fact, the shower head needed to be replaced and I would have done that for you right away. The house is also now supplied with an additional fan and I will add a larger coffee pot to my list! Thank you again and I hope you will return:)
Great location and wonderful accommodations
We certainly enjoyed our stay in this clean, quiet and spacious home. There were five to seven of us with plenty of space to sleep, cook, read and play games while we were there. During the day we went exploring to busy towns north, Charlevoix and Petoskey and around to Boynes. Then, there was the wonderful Rex beach to return to, near this property, to hunt for rocks, enjoy the lake, the quiet and watch fabulous sunsets, even on stormy evenings. In the morning, a walk from this house through the orchard for scones, great!! and lucky for us to be there on a Thursday night that their family store had bbq pork and other sides on a sunny patio outdoors with flights of cider or their wine to try. When we needed something, we spoke up and Sara responded that day and was so easy to communicate with throughout the process. Thank you for a great location to make memories while visiting our daughters and their family and friends!
We so enjoyed meeting you and your family! Thank you for the kind words and your open communication so that we could best serve you! Thank you for your stay, we would love to have you back!
We wanted access to both Torch Lake and Lake Michigan. Location was perfect. But it gets better. The house is pleasant, 2 br, and roomy. Extremely clean. We want to come back, it was great.
Thank you John! We look forward to having you back.
Very beautiful and peaceful! After a long day of adventures it’s nice to relax at.
I absolutely loved the place. The view was amazing. I would recommend bringing a tv and DVD player if your interested in late night movies after your long day. We had to get dish soap n laundry soap due to request of owners wanting the dish washer ran and towels washed prior to leaving and it wasn’t provided. Some of the light receptacles did not work n the breaker would get over loaded that we had to flip a lot to use the dish washer and garabage disposale. There were only minor things but it was an overall great place to stay. Very open space and super clean! I would come back again!
Dear Saddie! I am so happy that you enjoyed your stay! I do wish you had sent me a quick message letting me know of the issues as we like to resolve them as quickly as possible, when we don’t know we can’t help. I’m not sure what happened with the laundry and dish soap as we do provide them, so I am very sorry about that and will pay closer attention to make sure there is ample supply for our guests. Thank you for staying in our orchard cottage!
Great house with an AMAZING view!
We loved the home and surrounding orchard. It had everything we could ask for our family of six (three children and mother-in-law). We were visiting family in the area and the home was 15 minutes to everything (except the beach, that was only 3 minutes)! Our children loved playing in the large front yard and the home was very relaxing to come home to after being out with family. We would definitely stay here again on a return trip!
Make sure to visit the Tasting Room and try the ciders...delicious!
What a lovely family! Thank you for taking some time to review your stay. We hope you will stay again.
This cottage is located on a fruit farm with u-pick orchards, winery, hard cider on tap, bakery, and light lunch fare. It's just 2 miles from Lake Michigan and Antrim Creek Nature preserve. The winery is at the start of a nine member wine trail. There are 2 fantastic golf courses, Antrim Dells and Agaming just a few miles away, with many others available too. Bike trails are prevalent. The setting is magnificent and quiet with nature all around but is an easy drive to some more of Northern Michigan's treasures...Charlevoix, Petoskey, Boyne City, Elk Rapids, and Traverse City just to name a few. Great boutique and antique shopping. And to top it off northern Michigan is a foodie region with amazing restaurants, many offering farm to table offerings.
