About John Lewis

My wife and I are originally from Kingsport, TN and Winston-Salem, NC, respectively. I attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville while my wife attended Appalachian State University right down the road in Boone, NC. I think we have always loved the mountains.

John Lewis purchased this cabin in 2015

Why John Lewis chose Boone

This log cabin is so secluded but at the same time, so central to all the attractions in this area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Magical for the kids!

  • 5 of 5

This place is better than advertised. Beautiful view of the mountains on great little piece of property. It's tucked away, but convenient to everything. Clean, cozy and well appointed. Our kids had a blast.

Awesome place to relax

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here while playing a tennis tournament in Boone. The house was super clean and well appointed. The owners were flexible with us on timing due to our matches. Great experience!

Very comfortable and a nice location

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my wife, our daughter and her husband and three grandchildren had a great vacation in the Boone area and everyone was impressed with the excellent cabin. We particularly enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings, watching the fire and the fireflies, toasting marshmallows. With the cool evenings, the fire was easy to enjoy. Daily visits from a neighboring peacock fascinated the kids. A great place to relax and enjoy the mountains. We were pleased to find such a nice cabin to spend some time together in the mountains.

Hated to Leave!

  • 5 of 5

I can’t say enough good things about our stay at Mountain View! I stayed with my husband, our adult daughter and 2 grandchildren, ages 4 and 7. Our daughter and the kids had their own private space downstairs, which was great for the little one napping. We took advantage of the gas grill one night, as well as the fire pit when making s’mores. Relaxing with a cup of coffee in the mornings on the upper deck with the cool breeze was amazing, as was seeing 2 deer walk out of the woods to have a peek!

We didn’t have issues with anything not working, and my husband who is very hot natured was nice and cool inside with the AC and ceiling fans.

The home is beautifully decorated with personal touches everywhere-nothing was overlooked! The Lewis’s were so easy to work with throughout the whole process, and it was even better than expected. Pictures do not do it justice! I hated to leave, and definitely hope to stay here again next summer!

Good Value

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful home with a great layout, comfortable and charming. Host was excellent to work with, very professional and responsive. Didn't realize it's right off a main road. Certainly, it's convenient for many local attractions and eateries but that comes with some road noise I didn't expect. WiFi was a problem, but owner seemed ready to address that for the next guest.

Owner's Response: Hwy 105 is the main corridor to many of the attractions in the High Country which makes MountainView so convenient to everything. With it being Easter Weekend, I contacted the internet provider but they were not working over the long weekend. I contacted them at the beginning of the week to come out and our guests said to not bother with it and just wait until their departure. The internet provider came out after our guests left and replaced the faulty modem. Everything is good now!

a very handsome and well maintained cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 drove up to Boone on short notice for some fun in the snow and Mr and Mrs Lewis worked to accommodate us quickly. The cabin is wonderfully charming and situated greatly between Boone and Grandfather Mountain. Even with well known amentities just minutes away, our kids had a blast playing in the snow right there on the property. If you are looking for a family getaway or a quiet place to retreat for work, Mountainview is a certain option.

Rates & Availability

Taxes and fees are additional

Additional information about rental rates

Cleaning Fee $125
Property Damage Insurance $59

Rates are subject to change until reservation is confirmed. I would strongly recommend purchasing the $59 PDP versus the $1,500 deposit because by the time the credit card fees are taken out for both the payment and return of the deposit you end up paying more than $59.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
