Overview

About the property

Breathtaking Views from Living Area and Large Balcony 2+ bedrooms 1.5 baths

Our cottage has a beautiful private sandy beach with sandy lake bottom too, with lots of seating and toys. Our cottage is ideal for 6 but has had up to 11 with enjoyment for all. For sleeping we have a QUEEN SLEEP NUMBER BED in main bedroom (sleeps 2). There is a double bed with a twin top bunk in lower level bedroom with another twin under the double bed (that room will sleep 4) plus another all purpose room/bedroom with twin trundle bed (sleeps 2). For added measures with larger groups we also have 2 futons (sleeps up to 4 and a cot (sleeps 1).

Amazing view in the main living area. Galley style kitchen including cooking utensils, stove/oven, microwave, toaster, refrigerator/freezer and coffee maker. This is a small kitchen so if your interested in lots of inside cooking this might not be the kitchen for you. Table sits 6 comfortably with two tables on deck and picnic table outside. There is also a table at the deck on the beach with a large awning for shade.

We have a charcoal grill for guest and there is a cooler down at the beach for guests as well under the awning.

The deck has a fantastic view with seating.

There are lots of toys for the little one down at the beach. While supplies last...

For the adults there is a canoe, 2 kayaks, paddle board, and blow up float toys. (To be used at your own risk of course.) All while supplies last...

This cottage is our happy place.

We waited our entire lives to find this home on Crystal lake. It was built by a student of Francis Lloyd Wright and you can see it in his attention to detail and love he put into this house. When I walk into my cottage my troubles just seem to melt away from my shoulders. I can breathe easier.

I wake up in the mornings and have my coffee on the peaceful balcony and watch the quiet, calm lake and just breathe.

I make a pitcher of iced tea and take it out to the beach along with my favorite book and read until the sun tells me it's time to jump in the lake or float on my float tubes. I usually end up in the kayak or on a paddle board watching the sandy bottom go by and counting fish.

When we start to get hungry we bbq on the grill. In the evening we light a fire in the lake side fire place and make smores as we watch the sun set. Then we search for constellations and count shooting stars. Our beach is pretty private so I usually end up sneaking back into the lake for a midnight swim to cool down. Then we go sit in the balcony for a late night glass of wine. We go to bed and get lulled to sleep by the lapping of the lake on the shore line.

About Meg Hubbard

I was born and raised in Benzie County. My husband and I have an adult foster care home -Frankfort Senior Care Home- with 12 elderly clients living with us for nearly 20 years now. We also own Bayshore Tire and Auto in Elberta. We don't get much free time but we spend all the free time we can get on Crystal Lake.

Meg Hubbard purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Meg Hubbard chose Beulah

This cottage is our happy place.

We waited our entire lives to find this home on Crystal Lake. It was built by a student of Francis Lloyd Wright and you can see it in his attention to detail and love he put into this house. When I walk into this cottage my troubles just seem to melt away from my shoulders. I can breathe easier.

I wake up in the mornings and have my coffee on the peaceful belcony and watch the quiet, calm lake and just breathe.

In the evening we light a fire in the fire pit and make smores as we watch the sun set.

What makes this cottage unique

When I stepped into the living room and saw the wall of glass overlooking the lake I knew this was our home. It has the wood functionality my husband wanted and the views of the lake and private beach I needed. I just have to take a deep breath of relief each time I get to stay there.

I love the whimsy of the spiral stair case and the glow in the dark star stickers on the ceiling as i fall asleep. I love going to sleep to the sound of the gentle sound of the water reaching for the shore.

My stress melts away there. The cottage has a washer and dryer so i don't have to lug our clothes around. I can see the lake while i do dishes - making even the chores easier.

The basement has two large doors that open up under the veranda so even on a a rainy day you still get to enjoy the outside and we love to watch the storms come in.

There is plenty of outdoor seating and an awning to protect you from the sun and help you keep cool. There is even a place to hang your wet towels at the beach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Everything here was great! You guys have a nice spot. We Enjoyed the beautiful sunsets from the dock. Great location for a bench.

Our Chihuahua loved chasing the waves and both the dogs loved being on the porch.

Thanks again.

Beautiful, clean, and well appointed lake house.

  • 5 of 5

The views are awesome. The beach is top notch--has everything you would want to play and relax on the beach.

The house is unique and beautifully decorated, very clean and has beautiful views of the lake. Really nice deck to relax on also.

The kitchen had everything we needed to create meals all week--and again with a view of the lake!

The owners were readily available to recommend local activities/restaurants, and to ask questions during our stay.

First class lake house, we definitely recommend it!

Multiple vacations in one place...

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been more pleasantly surprised by this trip. It was absolutely perfect. Meg was a wonderful host, very prompt in responses and gave us great recommendations.

Very cute eclectic home, that was super comfortable for just the two of us. Plenty of room to relax, and didn't end up using half the house.

After arriving pretty late, we got some groceries from up the street and picked up pizza from a local take out place (Meg's recommendation). It was delicious and we enjoyed it on the deck under a starry night.

Second day we cooked breakfast in the am. Kitchen had everything we needed including coffee, spices and cookware. We then played a round of golf at a fun local course, Crystal Lake Golf Course. It was less than 10 minutes away, great views and super friendly service. That evening we had dinner at Rocks Landing, another Meg recommendation. This place was also less than 5 minutes up the road, fine dining, and situated on the lake. After that, we enjoyed wine and fire on the beach. Recommend getting wood at the local gas station...they sell bundles at 3 for 12 bucks. I saw a couple houses on the side of the road charging a lot more.

Second day we took a motorcycle trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes, only 15-20 min away, then spent the afternoon touring the northern towns and wineries. Evening ended with dinner at RoadHouse also just up the street. Fantastic mexican food.

Our last day was spent touring wineries on the east side of Traverse City. We were both really surprised here, as the wineries in this area are not little houses on a small vineyard. They are beautiful mansions or chateaus on rolling hills. It was absolutely beautiful. We ended the evening back at the house trying out some of Meg's water toys. I will say the paddle board has seen better days. Best to stick with the kayaks if you want some water fun.

All in all, we very much loved this trip and the accommodations. Could not believe we had so many fun things to do all within a short radius of the place. This would normally be 3-4 different trips for us, between the beach, golfing, hiking and wineries.

Owner's Response: We are so happy you loved it here. We canÔÇÖt wait for your return. I promise to have new paddle boards next year čśë?. All of our local places are out of stock for this season (I have tried the last two weeks) but we will have them for your next trip. Stay safe and hopefully see you next year.

Great family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We just spent 4 days at this beautiful property on Crystal Lake. Everything was just as expected and check-in was super easy. The cottage has everything you need. We definitely over-packed. It's close enough to restaurants and shops yet far enough away to unplug and relax. Sunsets from the dock were our favorite. Meg and her husband were very helpful and accommodating (even showed up when we accidentally locked ourselves out). We loved hanging out in the living room (great views and comfortable seating). Thanks for a great visit and we can't wait to return!

Perfect place to recapture our childhood summers at the lake!

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about our stay on Crystal Lake this August! The owners have thought of every little detail to truly make their home yours during your stay. It is immaculate, cozy, charmingly decorated, and perfectly appointed with everything you could think of (and more!) for your enjoyment and convenience. We especially loved having dinner overlooking the lake and kayaking at sunset...what an amazing view! We also loved having our own little beach with plenty of shade and chairs and toys for enjoying the day. My dad spent his child summers in this area 60 years ago, and we had a wonderful family vacation exploring all of his favorite places. But we loved relaxing at the house and with the views and serenity and the perfect water most of all. Meg’s caring, warmth, and hospitality was evident in every thoughtful detail of her home. We hope to come back again someday!

Small but beautiful

  • 5 of 5

The house and the beachfront are small, but well designed, and very comfortable. The second floor living room and front porch have a wonderful view of Crystal Lake. The beachfront has pretty much everything you'd want, including a canoe, kayaks, a nice sandy beach, a small garden and a large cabana with table and chairs. The beach is mostly sunny, but the cabana has shady spots if you need them (as I do). Pretty much everywhere you look, you find something to rest your eyes on. It's true the kitchen is small. But it's fine for one person at a time, and it has pretty much everything you'd need. I have my doubts about the feasibility of 10 people sharing this house, but three to five should be fine. We were two, and enjoyed our stay very much!

This cottage gets lots of sun light throughout the day. My worries just melt away from me when I'm there.

Our beach is pretty private so I have no worries there either. I can just relax.

It's about 7 miles from downtown Beulah and 9 miles from downtown Frankfort. Where you can enjoy the theater, dining, fishing off the pier, dock or charter boat fishing.

Frankfort has lots of activies going on art and craft fairs, farmers markets, car shows, book sales, fall festival. I love to walk they long beach in Frankfort and watch the sun sets.

The Bestie Valley trail is where I ride my bike and/or walk. It starts in Frankfort and is paved/packed dirt all the way to Beulah and beyond. There are lots of wild animals and ponds on the trail.

There are tennis courts and a playground at the park and new skate park.

Lots of rivers near by to fish in. My favorite is canoeing or tubing down the lower Platte which is about 10 miles away.

Don't forget the Cherry Bowl drive-in theater and diner. There are local wineries and breweries to have lots of tastings.

On the rainy days I love to go antiquing at the local antique stores as well as go shopping on the streets of Beulah, Empire, Frankfort and Glenn Arbor which are all beautiful short road trips down (the last three) beautiful scenic M22. Also Crystal Mountain For their trails activities and golf.
