Peaceful & Quiet
We were looking for a quiet spot to spend Thanksgiving. Laurie's place fit the bill wonderfully. It was comfortable (the bed was lovely) and had everything we needed. The guest house is located within walking distance of good eagle watching spots and convenient to beautiful Racehorse Falls.
Stayed there to ski at Baker with my son and nephew. We’ll thought out kitchen, very comfortable over all and well-kept. Didn’t get to enjoy the river because of our hours but it looks like it would be nice in the summer, also! Host was very responsive.

Absolutely Lovely
What a wonderful retreat into Mt. Baker's foothills! With fresh cut flowers from her gardens, Laurie provided us with a meticulously clean and colorful cabin. Her personality and relaxed professionalism only enhanced the tranquility of the atmosphere. We wish we could have stayed longer. - Angie
A charmingly appointed and well-equipped guesthouse in the hills and farms near Deming, Wash. Laurie has created a peaceful and joy-filled place to stage for exploring the Nooksack River and Mt. Baker or as a retreat - the house with its surrounding fields, hills and river conduce to prayer and meditation. And eagles. They have bald eagles. Laurie was a delight to work with and took genuine interest in this traveler’s comfort. Reservation, check-in and check-out were flawless and the house was spotless. I very much hope to return soon.

Adorable cabin close to hiking, skiing
This place was just perfect for a romantic weekend getaway for two. The cabin is beautifully decorated and everything has been thought of. A convenience store is nearby if you forgot to bring anything and there are plenty of delicious dining options. We were lucky enough to see bald eagles every day of our trip. Do note that there is no microwave or oven but there is a toaster oven and range if you’d like to cook. A grill is also mentioned in the handy guidebook though we didn’t use it. We found that we had no issues with preparing food. The bed was comfortable, the couch was cozy and I wanted to move in as soon as I walked through the front door. I can’t wait to go back.
This was a perfect place for a girlfriend's retreat while exploring winter play at Mt. Baker and the city life in Bellingham. The guesthouse was so comfortable and charming. The two of us enjoyed our time in the quiet surroundings here along the Nooksack River. Thank you, Laurie, for all your attention to detail to make this such an inviting place for travelers.
Beautiful cottage house very cozy with all amenities you need. 👍
Very comfortable bed. Very quiet and relaxing getaway. Beautiful hikes, waterfalls and skiing. Majestic waterfalls, and Nooksack river, were wonderful to see. A great weekend.
The cottage is sweet, and fashionable. Like Audrey Hepburn, looks so precious, so stylish and so petite. Each room has something unique to offer, from sunny windows to warm and cozy corners. I have stayed here before and cant wait to stay again.
Laurie's lovely, quiet property and artististcally, well appointed guest house was the perfect, peaceful homebase for our week long silver anniversary trip to NW Washington State. Nestled between the mountains and the coast we enjoyed numerous day trips as well as restful downtime in this comfortable, cozy space with all the amenities plus the little extra touches thoughtfully provided. Slept well, ate well, walked beaches and mountain trails and felt at home and well looked after. Laurie and her accommodations get 6 stars.
Charming, clean, comfortable and private, this guesthouse was the perfect spot for our seven day stay in Deming. Our congenial hostess Laurie provided a wealth of information about the surrounding area and the many opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of the area . We can’t wait to go back!
The cottage was peaceful, comfortable, and delightful! It had everything we needed and was close to gorgeous hikes. We enjoyed a delicious meal at the nearby Refugio's Country Italian Cuisine. It was a perfect getaway for two!
Very quiet! Very relaxing! Minutes away from a delicious Italian restaurant. Minutes away from Mt. Baker recreational area. Laurie very thoughtfully provided the basic needs to make this a great home away from home. Excellently designed; inspirational!

Cute place. Homey and comfortable. It was before memorial day and the town seemed to be a little sleepy still. Restaurant was closed. But area is beautiful. Would come back

Cozy cabin and thoughtful host
Laurie's place was delightful. It was warm and cozy during a frigid winter storm, and Laurie went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable and well-equipped for the weekend. The cabin was about 50 minutes from Mt. Baker Ski Resort, the reason for our weekend getaway. We would definitely stay here again.

It was in great condition! It was clean and tastefully appointed with all the amenities.
Laurie was great to work with and the property was well kept. It's a pretty area and, although there are few restaurants in the area, the food was good and the service was very friendly.

Laurie's cabin was the perfect place for our holiday get-a-way this year, & there were 3 of us!
I've wanted to learn more about Mt. Baker for awhile and had the chance Dec. 24 & 25th this year. Gorgeous drive into the cabin, eagles everywhere, & 3 of us were able to sleep comfortably in the one-bedroom cabin because 1) we are dear friends (bring earplugs if one of you snores!) 2) we used her comfortable foam pads and my single air bed in the living room (we chose not to sleep on the couch). The rooms are large enough to accommodate 3 women's luggage and the bathroom a great size. The conditions to ski or snowshoe are pretty much an hour away, with clear roads (meaning no snow until up at Artists Point).

A little slice of heaven :-)
We love this guest house with all of its creative, personal, and welcoming touches. Private, peaceful, clean, and aesthetically pleasing--we especially appreciate it's thoughtful simplicity. Truly restful. Well appointed with windows all around, great furniture and lighting, and a comfy bed. On the Nooksack river, close enough to Mt Baker and Bellingham, yet off the beaten path. We had a much-needed getaway, and look forward to our next one here. Thank you for sharing this bit of heaven!

This cabin is clean, comfortable, colorful, & attractive, set within greenery with plenty of privacy
We enjoyed the colors and designs inside, the quiet location, and the space and vegetation outside. Access to a nearby river was easy via short walks to several trails, and access to Bellingham easy via the Baker Highway. We enjoyed delicious meals at Rifugio's, also nearby. Laurie left us thoughtful refreshments and was always a delight to visit when we had a question. A great place and experience.

About the host
Hosted by LAURIE RISKIN
My husband Bill and I are the former founders, directors and educators of a private high school in Bellingham. Our school's experiential curriculum had a strong emphasis in the arts and environmental sciences. Now that we are retired, we are enjoying our time at our beautiful country home along the river and with the creative supportive people that are our community. We are artists; we are readers; we love music, dancing, eagle-watching and a great meal!
Why they chose this property
The North Fork of the Nooksack River runs around 150 yards behind our home. Enjoy walking down our country road to one of the beautiful trails to the river. Our County Parks Dept and the Whatcom Land Trust preserve this area for wild life such as eagles, salmon, elk, and deer, and protects it from future development. Bring your bike for enjoyable rides.
What makes this property unique
Our community is enriched by wonderful and talented neighbors, a community hall that provides space for poetry readings, dance and music events and the best potluck meals! We have an awesome library, great restaurants nearby and a popular craft brewery. Best of all is the beautiful natural environment for you to enjoy appreciate and explore!
