About Carol Crosby
The Crosby Family home has been in the family since grandfather professor Lamar Crosby purchased it in the 1920's as a summer home for his family during university breaks. His children Lamar and Oliver spent every summer sailing and hiking and eventually brought their own families to share the summer traditions. Oliver retired as US Ambassador in 1980 and with his wife Eleanor fully insulated the property as their retirement home. Eleanor made many additions to the original home to meet the needs of the family. Their children Michael, Jane and Hunter spent every summer in HP (Hancock Point) and consider it their home base as the family lived all over the world while Oliver was with the US State Department. With the recent passing of Oliver at 94.5 years in 2014 his children and their families are protecting the property for the next generation but many live far away and can't spend entire summers at the family home. Renting it helps assure that we can keep it for many more generations. We hope you will enjoy it too.

Why Carol Crosby chose Hancock Point
The view from the deck and large pitcher window overlooking the bay are spectacular in any season. My father in law, Oliver, would say, "We suffer...but not too much!" No matter what the weather the well insulated home is a pleasure at anytime of the year. The fall foliage is just as exciting as the summer water fun.
What makes this House unique
One added feature is the small one room cabin we call the Bird House which was built in the 1960's as a small guest house. It was erected atop a boathouse/one car garage and looks just like a birdhouse. It sleeps up to 3 and has a kitchenette and bath. It is just behind the attached garage of the main house and also looks over the bay. At this time it is not for rent.

Hancock Point Property 779707
This home was definitely adequate for 8 people. Enough bathrooms also. We thought the home had old world charm and we were very comfortable there. Nice view and cottage frontage to look for shells, sea glass, etc. Large kitchen to work in and we enjoyed the screened room off deck for playing cards/games. Everything we needed to enjoy our week was there. Not a modern house but a comfortable house. We appreciated the fact that it was very private and quiet.
Come and see us again sometime.
We had an awesome week in this beautiful part of our country!
We enjoyed our stay in this charming home! We enjoyed waking up to beautiful views of Frenchman’s bay and collecting sea glass on the beach. We also ended each night with a sunset on the beach. The home had everything we needed. I would bring drinking water to use since well water seemed a little rusty. Thank you for sharing this home with us that seems to hold so much history and many memories. We made a few memories of our own while we stayed there! Maine is just gorgeous!
Beautiful vacation spot!
We had a wonderful time in Maine. The house was located in a beautiful, secluded lot on the water front. Lots of local charm, books and family history makes this house interesting for those looking for a true Maine experience. The owners were prompt in responding to inquiries and questions, yet unobtrusive during our stay. The decks and beach were perfect for relaxing after long days at Acadia National Park.
The summer sailing program holds an annual hot dog roast, pancake breakfast and square dancing party for summer residents. Yearly tennis tournaments and the annual library book sale bring people together for community fun..
A ride up to Schoodic Park and a trip to Bar Harbor for shopping and hiking are a must. Jogging, biking, sailing, hiking and kayaking are only a few of the continuous activities you will enjoy on your visit to Hancock Point.
