The kitchen is the central area of the Cottage with a counter looking into the living room. With two skylights, natural light floods the house all day. Wherever possible, I have tried to make it sustainable. We removed all the old carpet, laminate flooring and linoleum (from the 50's) tile. The use of low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints was very important to me, as I did not want there to be any out-gassing. The exterior was light blue with turquoise trim. We repainted it a light gray and turquoise, and added a touch of Coral around the windows. I found a cool door that looks like it is from the 50's. The original concrete floors were repaired and shined. I had the kitchen cabinets refaced instead of replacing them. We also reconditioned the original wood windows. Wherever possible, I have used cotton and natural fibers. The lawn was removed with the "sheet mulching" process, and replaced with mushroom compost. It takes longer to remove, but there were no chemicals used. Sometimes I use vinegar on pesky weeds. Currently, the garden is a work in process, and soon it will flourish as the mushroom compost is super enriched. There are succulents (from my BFF's daughter's wedding), and other drought tolerant plants. There is an herb garden if you want to cook. The toilets and shower heads are low-flow. My cleaning service is allergic to chlorine, so I am thrilled to say that she is familiar with the cleaning and sterilizing qualities of vinegar and baking soda. We also use Mrs. Myers products. My lovely friend, Pam, contributed eco friendly products from Boulder, CO. The brand is Boulder. One bedroom features a comfy queen bed with all the pillows and blankets you will need, and French doors that lead out to the backyard. The master bedroom has a queen bed with a bathroom with a shower, and a garden window with my shell collection. It also has French doors that lead out to the backyard. The gardens are a work in progress. The desk in the living room is full of local brochures on what to do in Ventura and surrounding areas. I EVEN CREATED A CHARGING STATION FOR DROIDS AND MACS. I now have 2 adult bikes, one has a basket and there is a tool kit. There are a lot of amazing surf spots nearby including Ventura Point, Pitas Point and Rincon. There is a gas grill, a wood fire pit, a big screen SmartTV, blow dryer, portable air conditioner and lovely patio table and chairs in the backyard. There is also an Airbed for extra people, plus 2 twin beds. (There is an extra charge for more than 2 people). The kitchen has a full size gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, French press (you might find some coffee in the frig), panini maker, Crock Pot,and plenty of cooking supplies. There is a full length mirror on the bedroom doors. The Pier is about 1.5 miles north; To the south is Marina Park and Beach which is a great kids beach. There is plenty of parking, picnic areas, a small zipline and a small tot sized ship for exploring. The bike path and state beach are about 4 blocks north. The Seaward business district has plenty of restaurants and only 5 blocks(beach blocks are short) to the south. (See the guide book in the 3 ring binder). Ventura is a not only a city, but a county with numerous cities and communities with their own personalities. There is great hiking in the hills. You can hop on the trolley to get downtown or the Harbor. Coral Cottage is a block to the beach. Ventura County Fairgrounds are about 2.5 miles away, Downtown has lots of restaurants and fun shops. We also have a live music scene and an artist community. Lastly, please enjoy your stay. Thank you for choosing Coral Cottage.

Why Donna Benton chose Pierpont Bay
I fell in love with Coral Cottage when I first saw her. She so reminds me of the first house my parents bought in the 50's. I lived at the beach a few years ago, and I plan to move into this house one day. Currently, I live about 3 miles to the beach. All of the neighbors are super friendly, the beach is not too hectic (except when there is an event going on). You can walk to just about everything and leave the car parked. If you want to go anywhere, take the trolley. If you want to get out of town, it is easy to get on to the freeway. There is so much do, plenty of shopping, relaxation, boating, whale watching, restaurants, art galleries and events, live entertainment, the bike path is a few blocks away, things to do at the County Fairground. You can find great produce at the numerous farmer's markets in the area.
What makes this Cottage unique
Mostly natural fibers throughout the house. Cleaning products: vinegar, baking soda, Mrs. Myers, Oxyclean, fragrance/chemical free products and elbow grease. No chemicals or pesticides in the garden.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Very nice, well thought out, couldn't think of anything we needed that wasn't there!
Great location, close to everything, cute and colorful, Donna the owner is very nice and friendly. We had an issue with hot water the first morning and Donna had it taken care of before noon. There were comfortable beds, plenty of nice linens, everything you could think of. The only negative I can come up with is that my friend has some mobility issues and the living room furniture was all pretty low. But for active people it wouldn't be any problem. Our stay at The Coral Cottage was very nice! Donna showed up at our check out, after we left she discovered we left a couple of things and called immediately, we were only 10 mins away, so retrieving the items was easy! It's a great place to stay!
Cozy cottage with all the ammenities!
Donna is a thoughtful and generous host. Everything we could have possibly wanted for our beach stay was right there at the house, in great shape (some things were even brand new!), and easy to access. We loved having boogie boards, beach chairs, ample towels, and plenty of kitchen equipment (most houses we've stayed at haven't had colanders for pasta- we were thrilled to find a pasta pot AND a colander). Donna had filled the freezer with bags of ice, and there were condiments (hot sauce, etc.) in the refrigerator and basic spices in the cupboard. The dishwasher, washer, and dryer worked great! When we weren't at the beach, we spent our time on the porch or back patio; though, the kitchen table and living room were great places to hang out, as well. As an added bonus we could get delivery from L.C. Imports, Beachhouse Tacos, Lalo's, Lucky Thai Cuisine, Himalaya, and the Coconut Crab. The cottage is great for 2 - 4 guests, it was a bit of squeeze when my brother and his wife stayed over on the weekend. We had a great stay and will consider returning. Thank you, Donna. P.S. Your butterfly garden out front was an added bonus in the mornings with coffee!
Thank you for staying at Coral Cottage. It was nice to meet you and your family. Thank you for your fabulous review. It is much appreciated. I am glad you had a great time. You and your family left the house in fantastic condition. I would be happy to host you and your family anytime.
The Monarch butterfly caterpillars love eating the milkweed and they come back every year.
Charming cottage by the sea
Donna’s cottage is a cozy, charming retreat within blocks of a local business strip, then steps from there to the ocean. Watch the sunset from a stone bench overlooking the beach - even some dolphin watching, without even trying! No regrets. Should we come this way again, we’ll check this one out again.
Thank you for staying at Coral Cottage and for your great review. I appreciate that. I am glad that you and your family had a good time. Have a wonderful rest of your summer. I hope your son had fun at the basketball camp. Come back again some time.
Perfect...just what we needed.
I can't say enough good about my experience with this VRBO and owner. I had to make the reservations on very short notice and Donna was very easy to work with in that regards. I was in town for a very sad occasion and this home was so comforting on every level. We wanted for nothing and there were many personal touches that made the stay great. I am a frequent VRBOer and these are the things that set this place aside from others:
-Beautiful calming colors throughout.
-Both bedrooms have french doors leading to a very comfortable and private patio/yard area.
-Linens are of great quality and there is an abundance of them.
-eco friendly stuff.....really important to me.
-great communication and instructions.
I could go on and on. Just to say...I highly recommend this cute little place just a block from the beach in a charming little community.
Thank you for staying at Coral Cottage. I am glad you were comfortable. Maybe you can come back again.
Awesome Beach Cottage for Great Price
Great location - a block away from the beach in the heart of Ventura and wow for the price! Everything you need is here and more. Beach chairs for the beach, BBQ, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms one with shower and the other with bathtub. Very comfortable beds and clean. Other than food, this house is fully stocked. The owner is great as well. I totally recommend this awesome rental.
Good location...close to the beach
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Donna provided every amenity possible so you will not need to bring much more than your clothes! We arrived to fresh flowers and a nice bottle of wine. Several restaurants as well as a Vons supermarket were within walking distance. The cottage was very quaint and comfortable for a quick getaway to the beach!
Once you arrive, you can park you car. One block to the beach and sand dunes. A few short blocks to Seaward, where there is a sports bar, casual restaurant, sushi bar, Italian restaurant, fish and chips, frozen yogurt shop, 2 small markets, Von's Grocery Store, Starbucks, laundromat, bike shop, and Meridian Cafe, You can walk to an InIn_out Burger, Carrows Restaurant or McDonald's You can hop on the trolley to take you to Main Street or to Harbor Village. There is a state park about 5 blocks the other direction with The Happy Oyster food truck (they serve other seafood) with outdoor picnic tables. Take the bike path up the coast, or walk to the pier. Have dinner over the water. You will also see a bike rental kiosk. If you are lucky you may see a Blue Heron hunting for gophers near the dunes. Wonderful sunsets and friendly neighbors. Whale watching is great for a day trip.
