Studio Cottage, Nestled On A Hillside With River Access
About Carter Zerbe
Carter is a lifelong resident of West Virginia. Maureen has lived in the state for more than 35 years.
Why Carter Zerbe chose Marlinton
The cottage is located on the Greenbrier River, one of the premier fishing and paddling streams in West Virginia. It is at the end of a long driveway, surrounded by trees and foliage. This a studio - style setup: there is one large room with a sleeping area (queen bed), living area with a fireplace, kitchen, and bathroom. It has WiFi, but no cell phone serviceor land line. You can drive a few miles into Hillsboro or Marlinton if you want to use your cell phone. We bought this property because of its unique location on one of the most beautiful, family-friendly rivers in West Virginia, offering fishing, paddling, tubing, swimming, biking and hiking. Pocohontas County is one of the outdoor friendly places in West Virginia. We are minutes away from hiking/backpacking trains, mountain streams, waterfalls and wildlife. On the property itself, you may encounter deer, raccoons, turkeys, squirrels, chipmunks, and very occasionally, a black bear. The Greenbrier River is home to beaver, trout, bass, otters, bald eagles, blue herons, ospreys. Songbirds are plentiful. The property is minutes away from Cranberry Glades, a unique Canada-like ecosystem with plants typically only found in northern climates. The Glades are part of the Cranberry Backcountry which provides multiple hiking and backpacking opportunities. The Greenbrier River Trail runs nearly the length of the Greenbrier River. We often see hikers and bikers on the trail while swimming. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, our place is for you!

A Hidden Treasure!
This cabin is tucked away in a private setting, it is a wonderful place to stay. Everything was high quality-- the details of the cabin, and quality of the furnishings. We enjoyed watching the sunrise, sipping coffee on the front porch. We enjoyed having a fire on the back patio, and the gas fireplace inside. This cabin is a delight, a hidden treasure, I'm so glad we stayed here. There is a lot to do in the area. We would love to come back!
Very private. Excellent accommodations.
We enjoyed our stay very much. Better than advertised.
It was good
Good experience nice cabin in a nice setting. The cabin could’ve been cleaner, there are spider webs everywhere around all the walls and every corner. Overall, nice cabin and nice people.

A quiet and very peaceful cabin tucked away in the WV hills.
The cabin was perfect for a peaceful getaway. Located near walking/hiking and running trails, fishing, swimming and kayaking or just a float down the beautiful Greenbrier River. The owner is a perfect host and a great example of WV hospitality. Can't wait to return and spend time exploring the many attractions.
Access to the Greenbrier River Trail at Buckeye is about 3 miles north of the cottage, and at Seebert, about 3 miles south of the cottage.
Cranberry Glades and back country, in the Monongahela National Forest, is a 15 minute drive from the cottage, with numerous hiking and cross-country skiing trails.
There are several beautiful trout streams in the area, including the Williams, Cranberry and Cherry Rivers as well as Knapps Creek, Dunlap's Creek, and others.
Day trips to Lewisburg, WV, voted one of America's coolest small towns with fabulous restaurants and shops. Also an hour from Warm Springs,VA, home of the famous mineral baths built by Thomas Jefferson, with two very good restaurants.
