Unexpected travel items such as soaps, shampoos, sunblock, bandaids, coffee, teas, beachmats, island cookbooks, or 'Big Island Revealed', books are often available for your enjoyment. High speed internet access, flat screen Cable TV and outdoor dining on the lanai for breathtaking sunsets are all options that set this accommodation apart from others.

Hospitality abounds in this home as it has clean and beautiful appliances, kitchenware and linens including six fluffy beach towels and also a selection of beach books for your trip to the beach. This condo has a view of the surf and coastline which is more readily available than others in the complex due to its location on the third floor.

Why Steve Sandvik or Sonja Rudie chose Puako

Puako is the gem of the islands, has the least rain, the most sun, the least traffic, vog, nor hustle bustle. It has a very special rythm that is very much old Hawaii, plus there are so many things to do! For example, within minutes you can be Beaching, shopping, swimming, golfing, horseback riding,

surfing, diving, beach combing, whale watching, birding, snorkeling, hiking, or fine dining!

What makes this condo unique

Unparalleled location and climate

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Sonja,

We have enjoyed every minute of our time here! We have visited several historical sites, Volcano National Park, the "black sand" beach, in the south, the Bamboo Restaurant in Hawi, the deep valleys on the east as well as the Botanical Garden,-then the visitor's center observatory on Mauna Kea, Waimea Coffee Shop several times, and of course the beaches! We've learned so much about the Big Island and its welcoming people. Thank you for introducing us to ALL of it. We now understand why you LOVE to come here. We are rich in God's blessings and your gift of those days in #303 in honor of our retirement will be a memory for a lifetime. Mahalo!!

Love,

Jinny & Dale S.

Everything we hoped for

  • 5 of 5

We had a last minute change of plans during our stay in Hawaii and so were so pleased to find Sonja’s condo at the last minute. She was very helpful and the condo was lovely. Everything you hope for a longer term stay: Very clean, a Well stocked kitchen, lovely balcony with a view, fans and comfy chairs. The condo is within minutes of two great beaches. The building itself is well maintained and quiet. We will definitely be back.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the 5 Star Review! We take extra care to ensure cleanliness, comfort and modern conveniences without sacrificing hospitality. The beautiful view and well stocked kitchen are popular with our guests so we are glad to hear how you have also enjoyed them. We are especially grateful to have received over 54 Five Star reviews during course of our nearly 13 years as vacation rental by owners! World class beaches just two minutes away make our condo the perfect choice for discerning travelers. We are looking forward to you joining us (again) on the Big Island! Aloha!

Piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

I truly enjoyed my stay in Puako in Condo #303. The owners, Steve and Sonja, were wonderful and easy to communicate with when I had questions. I never needed her, it was nice to know there was onsite help/support just down the hall in #301 w/ manager Sara (I did see her around and appreciated the lovely flowers she put out every day). The condo itself was perfect for me: cute, clean, comfy, well-stocked (kitchen, bath, laundry, beach, etc), and w/ a beautiful view from the balcony. Although mostly quiet, there were times when I could hear neighbors - Nothing that destroyed my relaxation and enjoyment, and most seemed to follow the guidelines of doors/windows closed when watching TV, listening to music, etc. What I loved the most was the location. Although big, new hotels can be nice, I grew up in a small beach town so I relished in being a bit “off the grid” and away from the larger developments. I loved all the beach access areas just across the street and/or down the road and I really enjoyed having the cute, friendly local store just next door. To me, this location and this condo were heaven and I’m sure I’ll be back soon.

I Recomend This Property Absolutely

  • 5 of 5

This condo is perfectly located to explore all the Big Island has to offer. The condo unit itself is equipped with everything you will need. The general store next door is fantastic. The on site property manager is a super host. I look forward to staying here again. The third floor ocean view and breeze was amazing. If only I could take it home with me. The mattress on the hide a bed in the 3rd bedroom/den could use replacement but we found a mattress cover in the closet to improve it. Literally the only challenge we experienced. The owners were very easy to deal with and accommodating.

Love Puako!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in condo 303. It had everything we need. Beach gear, kitchen extras like spices and books both for pleasure and about the island. We have been to the big Island several times but this has been our favorite. We love that Puako is away from the crowds but close to multiple great beaches.

Owner's Response: Aloha Margaret, Did you know that your review makes our 50th (total) five star review?Although only about half now show on the current vrbo website, our behind the scenes data has been collecting for several years; since before home away and vrbo had their merger. Thank you for taking the time to tell us that this was your favorite experience although you have been to Puako several times before! We appreciate your acknowledgment of our wide array of spices, beach supplies, and other amenities that made your stay with us so special. Please consider returning, we look forward to having you as our guests in Puako once again. Mahalos, and a hui ho!

A wonderful get-away and home away from home - everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our time at this spacious, comfortable, and relaxing condo with our toddler, and hope to stay there again! A great view, more than a complete kitchen, a very short walk to (and everything you need for) fun at the beach, and super clean. Appreciated the touches of home, the deck seating, washer and dryer, and air conditioning, as I got sick the day we arrived and had to stay there a lot while my husband and daughter went on jaunts to the beach, pool, and store next door, etc. Impressed and thankful for the many kitchen amenities, toaster, rice cooker, microwave, dishes, pots and pans, seasonings, etc., (far more than any other VRBO we've stayed at), since we eat in almost entirely, due to food allergies. The on-site property manager and her assistant were friendly and helpful as well. It was extra windy during our stay but everyone said it was unusually so.

We appreciate your comments that our unit has a great VIEW, has Air Conditioning, great lanai seating, and so many comforts of home such as a washer/dryer, kitchen appliances and a terrific supply of spices which are not commonly found in vacation rentals. We are pleased you enjoyed the cleanliness of our unit and also the hospitality that we provide from start to finish, including the amazing aloha of our dear property manager.
