Unparalleled location and climate

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Sonja,

We have enjoyed every minute of our time here! We have visited several historical sites, Volcano National Park, the "black sand" beach, in the south, the Bamboo Restaurant in Hawi, the deep valleys on the east as well as the Botanical Garden,-then the visitor's center observatory on Mauna Kea, Waimea Coffee Shop several times, and of course the beaches! We've learned so much about the Big Island and its welcoming people. Thank you for introducing us to ALL of it. We now understand why you LOVE to come here. We are rich in God's blessings and your gift of those days in #303 in honor of our retirement will be a memory for a lifetime. Mahalo!!

Love,

Love Puako!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in condo 303. It had everything we need. Beach gear, kitchen extras like spices and books both for pleasure and about the island. We have been to the big Island several times but this has been our favorite. We love that Puako is away from the crowds but close to multiple great beaches.

We appreciate your acknowledgment of our wide array of spices, beach supplies, and other amenities that made your stay with us so special. Please consider returning, we look forward to having you as our guests in Puako once again. Mahalos, and a hui ho!

A wonderful get-away and home away from home - everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our time at this spacious, comfortable, and relaxing condo with our toddler, and hope to stay there again! A great view, more than a complete kitchen, a very short walk to (and everything you need for) fun at the beach, and super clean. Appreciated the touches of home, the deck seating, washer and dryer, and air conditioning, as I got sick the day we arrived and had to stay there a lot while my husband and daughter went on jaunts to the beach, pool, and store next door, etc. Impressed and thankful for the many kitchen amenities, toaster, rice cooker, microwave, dishes, pots and pans, seasonings, etc., (far more than any other VRBO we've stayed at), since we eat in almost entirely, due to food allergies. The on-site property manager and her assistant were friendly and helpful as well. It was extra windy during our stay but everyone said it was unusually so.

We appreciate your comments that our unit has a great VIEW, has Air Conditioning, great lanai seating, and so many comforts of home such as a washer/dryer, kitchen appliances and a terrific supply of spices which are not commonly found in vacation rentals. We are pleased you enjoyed the cleanliness of our unit and also the hospitality that we provide from start to finish, including the amazing aloha of our dear property manager. Did you know that she puts fresh flowers in the elevator every morning? We are looking forward to having you as our guest again sometime in the future. Mahalos!

Perfect for Family

  • 5 of 5

The condo provided the perfect location and accomodations for our family's Spring Break vacation. The three bedrooms and two baths provided plenty of room for our teenagers, in a quiet location. From the third floor balcony, we enjoyed great views of the ocean, whale watching, and beautiful sunsets. There is a beautiful beach across the street, and you are only 5-15 minutes away from additional pristine beaches, hiking locations, and shopping centers. The General Store next door stocks your basic grocery items, as well as many fresh specialty items and friendly sales associates. We appreciated all of the comforts of home and recreational gear, with the well stocked inventory of boogey boards, beach chairs & towels, snorkel gear, cooler, kitchen appliances and dishes, linens, travel guides, and more. We enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the ocean waves and waking up to the sounds of tropical birds. The pool is warm and clean and the grounds are well maintained and inviting, with a variety of tropical plants and flowers. The reserved parking space was a bonus, and the owners were a pleasure to work with. We would definitely recommend this condo, when visiting the Big Island.

Great Condo for a perfec stay!

  • 5 of 5

Condo was awesome, well kept. Owners have great communication and really want you to have a great experience. Close to great snorkeling, not far from shopping and other beaches. Beds were comfortable and plenty of room. Having boogey boards and beach chairs to use were great. I will definately stay hear again if I visit the big island.

Easy Family Spring Break Week

  • 5 of 5

Our party of five (parents, two college kids, and one of their friends) stayed at this Puako condo for a fun spring break trip that didn't break the bank. The condo decor is island style without being kitschy and was very clean and comfortable. We did not use the AC and were comfortable with the sea breezes and the fans moving air through. For a group with different abilities and interests, the location is perfect. My husband and I liked to get up early while it was still cool and go for a walk or an early snorkel (the snorkelling at the end of Puako Beach Drive was amazing -- we saw turtles, a manta ray, and a multitude of varieties of coral and tropical fish). We would come back to the condo for breakfast and pack up a picnic lunch and head out to a sandy beach where the younger set could boogie board, etc. (Puako Bay is mostly lined with lava tide pools.) Hapuna, Beach 69 and Mauna Kea Beach all within 5-15 minutes drive. Beach towels, four folding beach chairs, a small cooler, four boogie boards, two beach hats were all provided by the condo, stored in the study. Sometimes we picked up sandwiches from the general store next door, which also had a used book exchange and good rental DVDs. One morning we walked along the beach trail that starts at the end of Puako Beach Drive and in fifteen minutes were eating breakfast at the outdoor restaurant at the Fairmount Orchid resort. The trail to the Petroglyphs is close by the same resort. One nonbeach day we drove to Waimea for lunch at Pau restaurant and then north along the Kohalo ridgeline and on to the end of the north shore road to hike down into the beautiful Eden-like Pohulu Valley. Shaved ice in Hawi on the way home along the coast. One evening we drove 10 minutes south to wander around the ancient Hawaiian fishponds on the Mauna Lani resort grounds and had a big splurge dinner at the Napua restaurant overlooking the beach there. A week sped by. We liked the condo option over staying at a fancy resort; it was more affordable, we could do our own cooking when we wanted to, and it felt more "real" to be in a small beach community. The large front bedroom with access to the lanai and ocean view is the best. The condo is delightful and we highly recommend it. We rented snorkel gear for the week from Snorkel Bob's at the Mauna Lani shopping area and did our main food shopping at the Foodland there; take the turn off Hwy 19 toward the Mauna Lani resort (the last turn before the Puako exit).

Owner's Response: Aloha Anna Maria! Thank you for your five star review! We are so pleased to hear that you found our condo to be delightful, affordable, and well equipped for a family spring break getaway! We especially appreciate your attention to detail and sharing how great the view is from the lanai, and how much there is to do from Puako as your base. Examples such as where you had some great experiences with the beaches, snorkeling, tide-pooling, restaurants, walking, hiking, dining, exploring, and food shopping are so valuable! We recognize the abundance of things to do within walking distance from our condo, and this is one of the major reasons that we bought it. Puako is a highly desirable neighborhood due to its remarkable location, its aloha, and amazing island community. Thank you, also, for noticing how we take great care to ensure the condo's cleanliness and island style decor (without being kitschy). This is something we certainly pride ourselves in. The comfort and amenities you aptly described, such as beach towels, chairs, boogie boards, sun hats, beach books, and coolers are all extra touches we like to make sure our guests enjoy. One of our guests even mentioned we have an arsenal of spices in our kitchen! Mahalo and Aloha, Anna Maria, and we hope the next time your plans take you to the islands you will again return to Puako condo 303 as our guests. Until then, may you enjoy safe travels and gentle breezes...Sonja and Steve, Proprietors

Great Location. Neat & Clean Condo

  • 5 of 5

Our stay on the Big Island was our favorite part of our Hawaii vacation. Puako is off the beaten path which is what we were looking for. The snorkeling at the end of the road was the best we experienced anywhere. The beach access just across the road from the condo had turtles in abundance. We did travel around the Big Island and the location is a reasonable drive to popular attractions. The front bedrooms could use a little more A/C airflow, but the fan provided helped with that.
