About the property

The home is one of only 7 homes located on serene Blue Ridge Lake.

The house has a single level with an open mid-centry modern look and is decorated with a collection of local pottery and art work. The house is located in the community of Lake Toxaway N.C. On Blue Ridge Lake a private spring fed lake with only 7 homes on the lake. Blue Ridge Lake is about a mile north of

and a few 100 feet above Lake Toxaway, Almost every room in the house has views of Blue Ridge Lake. The master bedroom has a king size bed a lake view and private bathroom. A second bedroom has a lake view and a private bath. The third bedroom has a picture window facing the garden. The fully equipped kitchen has dishwasher, microwave and gas stove and oven. The second bathroom is next to the great room. New central Airconditioning and heating system .Free wifi/ internet throughout the house. The wrap around deck has covered and uncovered areas and is a great place to eat, sleep, watch wildlife on the Lake and to read and relax. You can fish from our private dock or our fishing boat and our 2 kayaks.

The Gardens Around the House include native plants and wild flowers designed to attract birds. The gardens include a large collection of Hostas and seasonal planting of our large collection of Begonias and Fuchsias. We are members of the American Begonia Society and the American Hostas Society. The couple we purchased the home from had been living and gardening on the Lake for over 30 years. Gardening is a work in progress and we spend a great deal of our time in Lake Toxaway gardening. It is wonderful to be able to garden in the middle of the summer and rarely work up a sweat! The environment that makes the area great for gardening is one of the most diverse ecosystems in the country.

Spring is our favorite time in the gardens and in the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. The wild flowers are best from May into June. Mountain laurel and the native rhododendrons usually bloom in June in our gardens . Summer is a great time for the annuals and many of the perennials we have planted in the garden. If you can beat the birds to them we have many blue berry plants spread around the gardens and the berries are great summer treats. In August the temperatures where we live often reach 100 degrees and we are thinking about our mountain retreat where the high temperatures rarely exceed 83 degrees. Fall is the time many of our guest come for the turning of the leaves. Peak color at our elevation is usually around 2nd week in October. The mountains in our area provide a long season for leaf chasers. The higher elevations on the near by Blue Ridge Parkway often start showing color in early September. Color at elevations below our house in the Brevard area will often last into November.

We chose our vacation home on Blue Ridge Lake because of the views, the climate and the proximity to Brevard, Cashiers, Highlands, Asheville, hiking trails and waterfalls. We invite you to share our special mountain home. Visit, relax and enjoy!

The property was amazing.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Mark &Joel's for a long weekend to escape the Miami heat. They communicated with me every step of the way and called to check up on us throughout our stay. We didn't need for anything.l, the house was fully stocked. It has a complete kitchen all the linens and towels, TV, wifi, kayaks, fishing poles and even a row boat. The wrap around porch is amazing and where we spent most of our time when we weren't hiking waterfalls or kayaking in the lake directly behind the house. There's a wind chime in the back that makes the most beautiful sounds echo through the mountains. The property is definitely secluded and away from everything and everyone which we greatly appreciated. I really truly enjoyed my stay and felt like home. I can't wait to come back.

Very nice and relaxing place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay. The house is very nice and has had some nice updates. Very open and lots of windows. The lake was nice, and the fishing was good. The owners called to check on us when we arrived. I would definitely recommend this place, and consider renting it again.

Great place to get away from it all

  • 5 of 5

Blue Lake Sanctuary was a very comfortable, well-furnished cabin in a serene setting - just what we wanted. It's a bit off the beaten path, but it's easy to get to the waterfall trails we wanted to hike. Our hosts made themselves very available for questions. Recommendation: Try Blind Mule for dinner!

Nice cabin on the lake

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was charming and clean with a nice deck overlooking the lake. The neighbors were very nice and the garden was really pretty. We loved watching the humming birds over morning coffee. The only negative was the kitchen. It definitely needs an upgrade and better equipment. Compared to the many other Homeaway properties I've rented, this kitchen was pretty sad.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay and loved the gardens! We have been doing at least one project a year on the house! The kitchen and master bathroom will be upgraded starting December, 2017!

A perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from our wonderful trip to Blue Ridge Sanctuary and lake. We arrived to a very clean house and lovely view of the reflection of the woods on the water. We immediately headed down to the dock where we sat with our first glass of wine. We all had a really great time. Included was an 8 mile kayak trip and shopping visits to Brevard and Cashiers. We saw magnificent nearby waterfalls - some requiring hiking over well-traveled and maintained paths and others just off the highway - and we had great dinners out including the Blind Mule (make reservations on weekends!) as well as preparing dinners at the lake and eating on the deck overlooking the water. The lake neighbors were friendly and helpful. All this plus cooler temperatures where the lows were in the 50s and highs in the low 70s. I highly recommend it.

Car: necessary

Blue Ridge Sanctuary is located approximately 15 miles south west of Brevard and fifteen miles from Cashiers. Asheville is a great day trip – about 1 hour drive. The property is located in Transylvania County, known as the Land of Waterfalls. Nearby is Gorges State Park, the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests and DuPont State Forrest and Recreational area and the BlueRidge Parkway providing opportunities for all types of outdoor adventures and admiring the numerous waterfalls. Movies such as the Hunger Games and Last of the Mohicans were filmed in the area. High temperatures in the summer rarely exceed 83 degrees and the nights are always cool. Blue Ridge Lake is less than 100 ft from our house and is a great place to fish (from our private dock or our fishing boat or our 2 kayaks).
