Great property & location, terrible bed

  • 3 of 5

Short summary: I enjoyed this property very much with the exception of the bed.

The bed.

Oh man, this bed is like sleeping on a rock. A rock that also squeaks and rattles a lot. It caused us restless nights, aches and pains. And really, I don't think I've ever complained about a bed in a vacation rental unit as I'm not very picky. This one should win an award for discomfort. Midway through the week, we asked the rental agency if they had any mattress toppers to loan out. They brought us kind of a basic foam pad which helped a little bit. In my opinion, the unit owners should at the very least purchase one of those dense memory foam mattress toppers that can easily be taken on or off and only cost $100-$200 bucks. Also the frame is very loud and makes a lot of noise every time you roll over or get in and out of bed.

Located in central Kihei, this is easy 5 min walk to beach, restaurants, shops. I prefer Kihei to Kaanapali/west Maui as it's less crowded, less pretentious, and has a laid back vibe. If you're into any kind of boating recreation, the boat launch is about a five minute drive down the road so easy access to scuba diving, whale watching, sailing trips. You will hear a bit of traffic noise from S Kihei Rd but it's not bad. My favorite bar in town is Mooses, which is an easy walk.

Spacious one bedroom condo, big outdoor lanai great for looking at the beautiful ocean view. It's fully stocked with everything you need in the kitchen and bathroom. Some would probably say the interior should be remodeled; I personally don't care about such things and would rather stay in a place that costs less and has older stuff. And though it looks older, it's obviously been nicely cared for. It was very clean upon arrival. They have cable TV and wifi.

The condo complex is low key, not resort style. Mix of locals and vacation rentals. The grounds have beautiful landscaping and native plants throughout. There's an outdoor shower for you to use on your walk back from the beach. There is a pool and hot tub which is very kid friendly. BBQ's are by the pool but we never tried them. The parking situation is a bit weird as there's no assigned spaces, so when spots run out in the closer lot you have to walk a ways up the hill. Because of that, I'd caution you against this complex if you have any physical impairments that makes walking difficult. The handicap spots were full as well.
