WHAT’S UP WITH VOLCANO?
Halema’uma’u crater inside Volcano National Park continues to collapse due to the lava leaving the summit and erupting down in Leilani. There is no ash fall-out or any other debris located on this property since this event. The air quality has been great and the skies have been blue outside the normal rain received in Volcano. During the crater collapse there is some ground shaking involved, but rest assured Lazy Lehua was built to be earthquake resistant and earthquakes are a natural occurrence in the area. The lava flow is located 30 miles and 3000 feet lower in elevation away from the property. This is a magnificent opportunity to get close to the action during the day and stay safe in a perfect location at night. In fact Volcano has less humidity and vog than most of the Island. While the park is the major attraction, Volcano is a beautiful little artist community and great resting spot for seeing the east side of the island with it's rainforest, orchid gardens, winery, hiking trails, waterfalls, black sand beaches and farmers markets -- it's simply an amazing place. I have put together a guide of 25+ places to see while staying in Volcano if your visit finds the Volcano National Park closed. PLUS, we have some great tips on seeing some lava from a very safe distance which is a short drive from Lazy Lehua Cottage.

Lazy Lehua Cottage was lovingly built in 2004. The idea for Lazy Lehua Cottage was to make it a special place for guests to stay, dream, and regroup. Focus was on putting as much character, charm and soul in to it and making it a whimsical, beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. Trees were hand cut and property cleared only enough to put the Lazy Lehua Cottage in its perfect place. The beautiful Ohia trees that unfortunately had to be cut down were used for the posts on the lanais giving it, its whimsical cottage look that blends in well with the rain forest. In keeping in the spirit of whimsical, some of the furniture throughout the cottage was hand crafted; coffee table, bar top and headboard on bed all using local, exotic and native woods. Our property is unique as we use our home often and we visit frequently so it is kept in immaculate condition! We know you'll feel the magical spirit of the house when you stay here.
Enjoy - Lazy Lehua Cottage.
