Lazy Lehua Cottage was lovingly built in 2004. The idea for Lazy Lehua Cottage was to make it a special place for guests to stay, dream, and regroup. Focus was on putting as much character, charm and soul in to it and making it a whimsical, beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. Trees were hand cut and property cleared only enough to put the Lazy Lehua Cottage in its perfect place. The beautiful Ohia trees that unfortunately had to be cut down were used for the posts on the lanais giving it, its whimsical cottage look that blends in well with the rain forest. In keeping in the spirit of whimsical, some of the furniture throughout the cottage was hand crafted; coffee table, bar top and headboard on bed all using local, exotic and native woods. Our property is unique as we use our home often and we visit frequently so it is kept in immaculate condition! We know you'll feel the magical spirit of the house when you stay here.

Enjoy - Lazy Lehua Cottage.

Dreamy Rain Forest Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Loved waking up to the sun shining through the many bedroom windows. Looking out and seeing giant tree ferns... green everywhere! Wonderful songs of the birds in the rain forest. Cozy gas fireplace stoves were so convenient after a rainy day hike in Midnovember. Although I never minded any rain. It is just so gorgous here! Fantastic double sized jacuzzi bathtub in masterbath (it does takes a little while to fill it properly). Compact but complete kitchen made it possible for us to prepare most of our meals right there (restaurants are another option). Farmers markets in Volcano Village on Sunday (EARLY! Get there by 7 AM as most clear out by 9) or Wednesday and Saturdays in Hilo. The produce and other foods are scruptious and the farmers are an absolute delight (My husband and I are Marin County farmers market junkies! But the Big Island farmers rock!). If you are like me and you don't like crowds, the Lazy Lehua Cottage is perfect: serene surroundings, artistic decor abounds in this gem of a vacation place. Laying in the blue hammock chair on the front lanai you will wish your vacation would never end. And you are so close to the many destinations you most definenitely don't want to miss. P.S.: Do rent a 4-Wheel Drive (not just an All-Wheel) if you are adventurous and like to do some exploring as that is required for Waipio Valley and some other areas... P.P.S.: Good healthfood store in Hilo ("Abundant Life") -- Ideal to visit on your way from the airport to the cottage (approx. 30minutes from Volcano Village). Great healthfood store in Pahua ("Island Natural Market"), slightly different direction but also about 1/2hr distance from the cottage.

Quiet jungle retreat

  • 5 of 5

We were only in Volcano for 2 nights, but it was perfect to get away from the business of Oahu. The cottage was set back at the end of the neighborhood so there was practically zero other cars going by. The cottage itself was spacious with a modern kitchen and 2 gas fireplaces, perfect for warming up the cooler mornings. There was coffee and a few snacks available, an extra welcomed treat! The bed upstairs was very plush and comfortable and the jacuzzi tub was great after a long day of hiking in the park. Highly recommend!

This was my favorite VRBO of all time

  • 5 of 5

First off you need to like the rain to stay here. We had up to 7 inches a day. There is a reason for this. The surrounding area is gorgeous and the property this cottage sits on is enchanting. We absolutely loved it. The cottage itself is immaculate and beautiful. Whoever designed the inside took every chance to make this a beautiful place. The woodwork, the comfortable bed, the color schemes, the jaquizzi tub were wonderful. The rain on the tin roof at night was music to our ears. The lanis with swings were a bonus and overall it was just wonderful. We weren't able to get into Volcano National Park for 2 days and I could have been disappointed but the cottage was so beautiful it actually made up for it. The owner contacted us the last day to let us know they opened the park. So very kind. I felt like I was in a fairy house and my husband loved it too. I only wish I could have stayed longer. So much to do around area and such a beautiful town. The people were all nice and had the Aloha spirit. We had been to Kuai and to be honest I think locals are sick of tourists there. Not in Volcano. Thanks so much for a truly magical 40th wedding anniversary get a way. Aloha

Amazing Cottage in the Jungle

  • 5 of 5

Lazy Lehua Cottage was by far the best property our family had stayed at in our travels to Hawaii. The scenery around the cottage is breath-taking, it is located on a very quiet street, and you are waking up to the sound of birds every morning. The inside of the cottage is not less impressive than the outside, and it is well stocked with all the necessities and beyond. We left the cottage with a feeling of tranquility and renewed energy.

Breathtaking Volcano

This was a beautiful and well-maintained property. The beds were all very comfortable and we loved the seclusion of the surrounding rainforest and the wonderful deck furnishings. I would book it again!

About Stacey - Owner/Manager

Lazy Lehua Cottage has been a succesful vacation rental for over 10 years. We recently had the opportunity to purchase this property from the owner and are execited to continue to offer our home as a vacation rental. We live in California and have been coming to Hawaii for many years. This home is used as our own personal vacation home and is kept in immaculate condition. We fell in love with the Volcano community with it's beautiful rain forests, cool weather and morning sounds of singing birds. Volcano and its community has much to offer and we hope you enjoy our home in the rainforest as much as we do.

Stacey - Owner/Manager purchased this house in 2017

Why Stacey - Owner/Manager chose Volcano

I have stayed at many vacation homes in my travels. Our home was built as a full time residence and since we only stay at our home part time, we have decided to share our home as a vacation destination. We love Hawaii and the cool weather that Volcano provides after a hot and humid day at the beach.

The 3 things we hear most from our guests at Lazy Lehua Cottage, (1)"The pictures don't do it justice, it's much better in person", (2) "We wish we would have stayed longer" and (3) "The Lazy Lehua Cottage was our favorite accommodations during our stay on the Big Island". Come see for yourself!

What makes this house unique

Our proximity to Hawaii Volcano National Park, 2 short miles to the entrance. Mauna Loa Estates is a very quiet and safe community. The home was built so that the rain forest surrounds the cottage which provides the ultimate in privacy. The beaches...you have your choice of tide pools for snorkeling, black sand beaches for turtle watching or the white sand beaches in Hilo. It is a unique opportunity to be able to visit all these beaches from one central location. If you are looking for true Aloha and to live the Hawaii life, this is it!

Guestbook comments from the owner

If you are coming to Volcano and this place is free then don’t hesitate to book. It’s stylish, luxurious, beautiful, well equipped and secluded. The rainforest is right outside and visible and audible from every window and lanai. Stacey is a dream host - Thank you.
