Lazy Lehua Cottage was lovingly built in 2004. The idea for Lazy Lehua Cottage was to make it a special place for guests to stay, dream, and regroup. Focus was on putting as much character, charm and soul in to it and making it a whimsical, beautiful place for everyone to enjoy. Trees were hand cut and property cleared only enough to put the Lazy Lehua Cottage in its perfect place. The beautiful Ohia trees that unfortunately had to be cut down were used for the posts on the lanais giving it, its whimsical cottage look that blends in well with the rain forest. In keeping in the spirit of whimsical, some of the furniture throughout the cottage was hand crafted; coffee table, bar top and headboard on bed all using local, exotic and native woods. This is our vacation home and we visit frequently so it is kept in immaculate condition! We know you'll feel the magical spirit of the house when you stay here.

Enjoy - Lazy Lehua Cottage.

About Stacey - Owner/Manager

Lazy Lehua Cottage has been a succesful vacation rental for over 10 years. We recently had the opportunity to purchase this property from the owner and are execited to continue to offer our home as a vacation rental. We live in California and have been coming to Hawaii for many years. This home is used as our own personal vacation home and is kept in immaculate condition. We fell in love with the Volcano community with it's beautiful rain forests, cool weather and morning sounds of singing birds. Volcano and its community has much to offer and we hope you enjoy our home in the rainforest as much as we do.

Stacey - Owner/Manager purchased this house in 2017

Why Stacey - Owner/Manager chose Volcano

Have you seen the pictures? The 3 things we hear most from our guests at Lazy Lehua Cottage, (1)"The pictures don't do it justice, it's much better in person", (2) "We wish we would have stayed longer" and (3) "The Lazy Lehua Cottage was our favorite accommodations during our stay on the Big Island". Come see for yourself!

What makes this house unique

Our proximity to Hawaii Volcano National Park, a 2 short miles to the entrance. Mauna Loa Estates is a very quiet and safe community. The cottage was built so that the rain forest surrounds the cottage which provides the ultimate in privacy. If you are looking for true Aloha and to live the Hawaii life, this is it! Absolutely breathtaking!

Guestbook comments from the owner

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Lazy Lehua Cottage and wished we could have had more time there. It's a great home base for exploring Volcanoes Nat'l Park as well as the rest of the Puna district. The fire was very cozy during the rainy, cool evenings. It was also nice to be so close to Volcano Village where we wound up eating every night.

The house was very private and tranquil. Our children (4 and 6) enjoyed playing the games at the house and we didn't turn on the tv sets even once. The kitchen was nicely stocked, too. We would definitely go back to Lazy Lehua the next time we're visiting the Big Island.

Dreamy Rain Forest Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Loved waking up to the sun shining through the many bedroom windows. Looking out and seeing giant tree ferns... green everywhere! Wonderful songs of the birds in the rain forest. Cozy gas fireplace stoves were so convenient after a rainy day hike in Midnovember. Although I never minded any rain. It is just so gorgous here! Fantastic double sized jacuzzi bathtub in masterbath (it does takes a little while to fill it properly). Compact but complete kitchen made it possible for us to prepare most of our meals right there (restaurants are another option). Farmers markets in Volcano Village on Sunday (EARLY! Get there by 7 AM as most clear out by 9) or Wednesday and Saturdays in Hilo. The produce and other foods are scruptious and the farmers are an absolute delight (My husband and I are Marin County farmers market junkies! But the Big Island farmers rock!). If you are like me and you don't like crowds, the Lazy Lehua Cottage is perfect: serene surroundings, artistic decor abounds in this gem of a vacation place. Laying in the blue hammock chair on the front lanai you will wish your vacation would never end. And you are so close to the many destinations you most definenitely don't want to miss. P.S.: Do rent a 4-Wheel Drive (not just an All-Wheel) if you are adventurous and like to do some exploring as that is required for Waipio Valley and some other areas... P.P.S.: Good healthfood store in Hilo ("Abundant Life") -- Ideal to visit on your way from the airport to the cottage (approx. 30minutes from Volcano Village). Great healthfood store in Pahua ("Island Natural Market"), slightly different direction but also about 1/2hr distance from the cottage.

Hidden Gem!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here in Jan 2017, and it was nothing short of amazing! The cottage was exactly a described and was extremely neat and clean. Every detail was well though out. The furniture was unique, the bed was comfy and the kitchen was well stocked. The location was perfect for exploring the Volcano National Park and the town of Volcano. The cottage itself was pretty secluded, which made the stay comfy and peaceful. It does get pretty chilly at night, so the fireplaces were a perfect way to warm up.

Overall, this was one of the best places I have ever stayed and I would definitely love to come back!

Lovely secluded rainforest cottage

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Lazy Lehua cottage. It is secluded and private but very close to Volcano National Park. Our daughters loved the bunkbeds, and we had plenty of space for four people. The house is well stocked and charmingly decorated. Relaxing in the jacuzzi tub at night with the windows open to hear the rain was a highlight. We had a lot of rain but the fireplaces heated up the rooms quickly. It would have been nice to have a clothes dryer but that would not keep us from staying here again in a heartbeat. I would advise doing the majority of your grocery shopping before arriving in Volcano, the two "stores" in town are extremely minimal, although there are a variety of good restaurants. It is also an easy drive from here to Hilo and to Puna (where we visited the Kapoho tide pools, a definite highlight). Thanks for a great experience!

Cozy cabin with lots of extras

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 2 night stay before we headed to Kona side I wished we could have stayed longer. The setting is so cozy and comfortable. We had 2 adults and 2 kids and had plenty of room. Perfect location for visiting Volcanoes National Park. We went during the day and the night to see the glow. The cottage had lots of extras. We didn't cook much at all but the hot coco, popcorn and chocolates were appreciated. I slept so good both nights really comfortable beds and bedding and the Jacuzzi tub is magical in that setting. I could go on and on but you won't be disappointed staying here. Thanks for providing a lovely place and accurate listing. Would love to come back!

Cute and Cozy Cottage

  • 4 of 5

This was our second time to stay at the Lazy Lehua cottage. This is a really cute and whimsical cottage in a fern forest. It’s very close to VNP making it a nice base camp for exploring the park.

We were there in March and the nights and mornings were cold so we used the fireplaces and heaters to warm the place up. It rained every night we were there so no star gazing on this trip.

The birds start singing about 6 AM for your wake up call, but with the time difference that didn’t seem too early. We made breakfast each morning and would pack a lunch to eat in the park.

The kitchen has most things you need to prepare meals, but there’s no dishwasher for afterwards. With 2 of us, it wasn’t that big of a deal. If you want to prepare meals, I would suggest to do your grocery shopping before arriving in Volcano. We flew into Hilo and stopped at the KTA on the way for supplies. We loved the secluded feeling of the neighborhood.

They have put in bunk beds if you are traveling with kids. Joyce was easy to work with and sent emails with detailed instructions before arriving so it makes things very easy.

When we decide to visit Volcano again, we will certainly want to stay here again.

Owner's Response: Aloha Cute & Cozy Cottage - Mahalo for the rave review! Not gonna lie, we're used to getting 5 stars, so we're a bit hurt with a 4 star :(... We're a family of 4 and have never missed a dishwasher. We'd like to think we are as environmentally friendly can be to our beautiful rainforest and want to leave as small a carbon footprint as possible so won't be installing a dishwasher at LLC. We hope this doesn't detour you from staying with us in the future. Mahalo for taking time to write a review!
