Get away from it all at our peaceful and immaculate studio apartment nestled in the trees just steps from pristine Green Lake. Enjoy two hundred feet of gorgeous waterfront on two lovely acres. We are on a well maintained unpaved road with little traffic, affording peace and quiet.
In the Loon's Nest, you'll find a comfortable queen sized bed that looks out on the lake. If you're an early riser, you can watch the sunrise from bed, but the door and windows all have blinds to lower if you plan to sleep in or nap. You're here to relax and rejuvenate! A microwave, small fridge, toaster, Keurig coffee maker, dishes and silverware are provided for light meal preparation. You have access to a gas barbecue grill as well. WiFi is provided.
No pets please and no smoking.
There are the two kayaks and a 15’ canoe available at the water's edge with life jackets provided. You are welcome to borrow our bikes to take a ride on our road as well.
Read and relax in the large hammock at the water’s edge or simply watch the leaves above you sway in the breeze. Take a long walk if you like. Swim in clean clear water at the end of our dock, where you can see 12 feet to the bottom. Green Lake is considered one of the premier lakes in Maine, with spring fed depths of up to 180 feet. Our dock is unusually spacious, with 2 Adirondack chairs at the end and two lounge chairs closer in. There are also additional lounge chairs on the lawn, providing plenty of places to relax.
If you decide to check out the area, Ellsworth is 15 minutes away. It has just about everything you might need or want. Quaint villages like Blue Hill, Surry, and Castine are all within 20-40 minutes of our location and the city of Bangor is a half hour to our north.
The entrance to Acadia National Park is 35-40 minutes away, and has 45 miles of carriage trails to bike on without road traffic and gorgeous hiking trails that wind along the ocean or reach amazing views. You can rent bikes or sea kayaks at several locations if desired. You might decide to drive to the top of Mt. Cadillac for a spectacular view, go whale watching, drive the scenic park loop road, or enjoy charming towns like Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and Northeast Harbor.
After a day enjoying the Ellsworth area or Acadia National Park, come back and take a nice cool swim. There's a swim ladder at the end of our dock and the apartment has four beach towels for your use. The Loon's Nest does not have a television; we’re hoping that you connect with nature during your stay. We have friends and family who continually turn down day trips when they're here; all they want to do is relax and enjoy our wooded lakeside setting. Whether you decide to explore our beautiful area by car, get active, or just relax, we want you to have a wonderful time!

Stunning views and kind hosts
We loved our stay at the Loon's Nest, and would recommend it without hesitation. The hosts, Donna and Dave, are kind and thoughtful people who made us feel welcome. They went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and special as possible. The apartment is small, private, and quiet. It had everything we needed and felt much bigger due to the windows and sliding door that look out onto some truly beautiful surroundings. It was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Great attention to detail for a cozy stay. Easy to get to Acadia, and we loved having a quiet spot to return to after a busy day of exploring. This is a unique and special rental spot that we feel grateful we got to experience. We would love to come back! Thank you, Donna and Dave!!
Thank you, Annie and Jonathan, we would love to have you come back someday! We SO enjoyed having you here at the Loon's Nest; it was our pleasure to host you!
The place is spectacular!
This is a mini piece of paradise. It is a well equipped room and the lake is beautiful. It was raining for most of our stay but we still got to enjoy Acadia and surroundings. Food was great everywhere we went.
Great place to unwind, beautiful and serene
Aptly named the Loon's Nest, as we were periodically serenaded by loons on the lake. Beautiful setting. Although Donna and Dave had to be gone (for the birth of a grandchild), they made arrangements so it would be ready, then regularly checked by text on how things were going and answered questions. Instructions and suggestions for enjoying the area (both in the welcome book and in response to our questions) well done and very helpful. Would do it again!
Tranquil, quiet hide away
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at "The Loons Nest" - location was the best - waking up every morning and looking out the sliding door windows and seeing the trees, dock and the lake. Our host took care of every little detail(providing a snack basket, CDs and player, bathroom necessities and yummy cookies. Every day, we went exploring the Mount Desert Island area; especially liking Acadia National Park and the towns of Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor. Coming back to the quietness of our apartment and sitting on the dock was a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the towns.
Donna and Dave were wonderful hosts sharing their beautiful lakefront property with us! The apartment was clean and filled with goodies that added a special touch. Drive to Acadia/Bar Harbor is manageable and the town of Ellsworth has some nice dining options as well. We enjoyed our stay in Maine on Green Lake!
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely place. It is quiet with a great view of the lake. We heard loons in the evening and saw them in the morning. This is a great place to relax and "get away" from the pressures of life. Donna and Dave are super nice and informative.
