About owner/property manager
I am an average working guy from metro-Detroit. Family means everything to me, and I have an incredible wife and 3 wonderful (now full grown) children who all feel the same way. We cherish the up-north feeling you can only get in northern Michigan. From many unforgettable family vacations during my youth, it became a forgone conclusion, like a part of my genetic makeup, that I would someday have a place up north. Because for me, the feeling is irreplaceable. One evening in the fall of 1998, after a long day of raking leaves and while standing with my father over a bonfire outside, I told my dad how much I loved and missed those family vacations up north - I wanted to feel that way again. My father emphatically agreed, and we decided to go-in on a place together. We agreed that we would keep it simple, because that's what being up north is all about.
owner/property manager purchased this Cabin in 1999
Why owner/property manager chose Grawn
I stumbled upon this property at the end of an unsuccessful extensive search with my father far and wide across northwest Michigan in the spring of 1999. Feeling tired and a bit defeated after reviewing several dozen properties listed by realtors, none of which quite hit the mark, it was like divine intervention to find this very modest place that had just recently been put up for sale by the original owner, a spry, elderly, practical man who at one time was the mayor of Traverse City, as well as the retired owner of a prominent Traverse City business. The sun was low in the sky on a beautiful early evening in May. In the first moments of finding this place, I am not sure I even looked at the cabin, I was so drawn to the sun's glistening on the water, realizing that an amazing sunset was developing. That pretty much sealed the deal for me, and I had not yet even called the owner.
What makes this Cabin unique
Spectacular sunsets and evening light on the water are the main attraction for most. The lake is surprisingly peaceful with little boat traffic. When looking directly across the lake and to the left, another house cannot be seen on the waterfront, providing the distinct feeling of being away from it all. This is often reinforced with a glimpse of a bald eagle, osprey, or loon. This is when the location is to be most appreciated, because from this tranquil, natural, and seemingly remote vantage point, you are still only minutes from the artsy village of Interlochen and just a few more minutes to the shopping, dining and dazzling bayfront of Traverse City, including the Old Mission Peninsula wine region. You can also head west for 30 minutes to the quaint village of Frankfort and its breathtaking Lake Michigan shoreline. Frankfort is the perfect first stop for a daytrip northward up M22 into Leland, Glen Arbor, and Empire, all places you will fall in love with and yearn to spend more time in.
