River House with Pizzazz on the Upper Chattahoochee River

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-10)

This three bedroom, two bath chalet is located on over five and a half acres of property with 650 feet of frontage on the Upper Chattahoochee River. Located about 9 miles from Helen in the Sautee Nacoochee Valley, this retreat is well appointed with decks at the house and river, tiki bar at the river, a hot tub, grills and tubes.

Just 90 miles from Downtown Atlanta, this tranquil setting is seemingly light years away. If you can't take a hint, there is a DSL internet connection, satellite TV, DVD and CD players, BBQ Grill, hot tub, and tubes. The bedrooms are on three different levels, with separate living areas on each floor. The house can easily accommodate three couples or a large family. This open loft like floor plan is not suitable for younger children.

There are good restaurants in the nearby Saute Nachoochee Valley, Helen and Clarksville. Regular and Gourmet Grocery stores are about 9 miles away and a convenience store is within minutes. We like to cook, and the kitchen will allow you to prepare your favorite meals. You can then dine in at a comfortable table that will seat 8, or on an outside deck amidst the trees.

There is a treehouse-like feeling from the surrounding woods, and the river is accessible by an easily travelled path. Formerly owned by local folk artists, the house offers an eclectic mix of folk art and artifacts you will enjoy perusing and contemplating.

You'll love this spot on the river and the house! Come see what others rave about!

Guestbook comments from the owner

I cannot praise highly enough this cabin. Will easily accomodate 3 couples. Each floor has a separate bedroom. What can I say about the kitchen? Awesome is all that comes to mind. It has a modern kitchen that most would be proud to have in their own home. All you need to cook is the food. It's fully stccked with all the spices and condiments plus cooking gear. It's not far from helen but you could easily enjoy a couples retreat without leaving the property!Recommended for: Adventure Seekers, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway,

My Response

Alex, I'm so glad to hear you loved the house as much as we do. It's a unique place and very special to us. We love to cook and once we get to the house, we never want to leave. I'm happy you found you didn't have to either! We'd love to have you back. Let me know when you come our way again! Meredith

Best Girls' Weekend Ever!

  • 5 of 5

As a group of five friends, we had the best weekend in the north Georgia mountains ever! This unique home is exactly as described, and is perfect! The art is so charming, the accomodations so comfortable, the kitchen so well equipped, we didn't want to leave. The owner has thought of every possible way to make her guests feel comfortable, down to the wonderful bath soap, the Williams Sonoma hand soap and lotion, and plush bath towels that smelled amazing!! It was so easy to get to from North Fulton, and close to things to do (we went to a charming fall festival at Hardman Farms, and discovered the world of Saturday afternoon wine tasting at Kaya Vineyards); there was even a Dollar General nearby in case of 'emergency'. The hammock on the back deck was wonderful; next time we will definitely use the hot tub! As indicated, the steps between the multiple levels take a little getting used to. The only negative we experienced was in the area of technology: no SEC Network on the Dish TV, so I couldn't watch the Georgia game, and the wifi was slow; we switched to our data plans, which were a little faster. Small price to pay for all the other magic. Thank you!

Owner's Response: I'm so thrilled to know you loved the house too! It is a unique place and we love it. My goal is to make it as comfortable for you as we can and I'm happy to know we're on the right track. Up in the mountains, all our city luxuries aren't readily available but we try. Crazy that the wifi is the fastest plan available up there! Ah, but when you're relaxing in the hammock it makes it all worthwhile..... Please come back! We'd love to have you! Meredith

Unique property

  • 5 of 5

I spent the weekend here with 5 of my girlfriends. The layout of the home is open and interesting, and the artwork is fantastic! There is a bedroom and full living area on each of the three floors. Great decks look out into the woods. There is plenty of room to spread out or come together. The river area is a little secluded and a short but hilly walk from the home. Blueberries there were great! It is a quick, easy 10 minute drive to downtown Helen. The home is well stocked with everything needed for a great time, down to the waffle iron and board games. Washer and dryer, iron and hair dryers are a bonus! Warning, though: there are a lot of stairs. Not just the obvious between floors, but throughout the first two levels, there are one to three stairs between rooms. It adds to the charm, but can be a little challenging.

This place is just what the doctor ordered. It has everything you need for a real vacation. There were deers on the property, and a quiet fishing spot. We loved it

Just ok

  • 3 of 5

I must say this is a very interesting home. This is not a home you would stay at if stairs are any kind of issue. There are stairs everywhere. This is definitely not a rental if you have smaller children.

We found the home had not been completely cleaned in the basement living area to include the back porch sitting. Each floor of the home has a tv sitting room and a nice size kitchen on the main floor. Parking more than 2 cars in the driveway can be a issue. It would be a good rental for 2, maybe 3 couples who want to sight see around the area and don't mind a older home in the woods.

Owner's Response: I'm so sorry you weren't a fan of the house! It is a very unique layout! The open loft like floor plan does include a lot of stairs (we have 3 floors) and you are correct it is not suitable for younger children which is why we avoid renting to families where it would present an unsafe environment. I'm very sorry you found the house was not cleaned properly down stairs and on the back deck. I will certainly make sure that does not happen again and appreciate you letting me know so I can address the issue. Cleanliness is very important to us!

My ZEN Getaway

  • 5 of 5

As a repeat renter, I can say this is one of my favorite places in Georgia! It's such a unique property and space - you will amazed that it's a 'rental' property. The home itself has a unique layout - with the 3 bedrooms & living spaces on three separate floors, allowing for some 'spreading' out room. The artwork and décor give this rental more personality than any other rental I've ever stayed in. You will continue to find interesting pieces throughout your stay here.

We've rented this property as a romantic getaway, as our family vacation spot, and for a girls getaway. While the property is secluded, providing privacy, its very close to Helen and a number of North Georgia attractions as well. Perfect spot in North Georgia!

Hidden Gem- Cozy, Secluded and close to Helen

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here in October. It was me and a few girlfriends for a fun birthday weekend. We loved this cabin! It was so cute and fun, and there was definitely enough space for everyone! I want to book here in the summer with a few other friends to celebrate their engagement! What I love most is that it is on the water too, so we don't even have to travel into Helen is we don't want to! Although, I must be honest, it's a pretty dark and steep walk down the path to the water and fire pit! So you can imagine a few girls walking down there alone, at night, in the dark and we basically scared the jibbies out of each other lol. But with a fire, that spot would be so cozy! Truly- I hidden gem just outside of Helen. Working with the owner was super easy and she was very communicative which is a huge plus.

Owner's Response: Jami, Thanks for the great review! I'm glad you all had a great time! You've given me a great idea to provide flash lights for the walk to the river at night! You're right it can get dark with the canopy of the trees and nothing but stars to guide you! I hope you'll come back in the future! We'd love to have you! Meredith
