Unforgettable memories

  • 5 of 5

This was a magical place for us to hold our family reunion and wedding reception. We had a beautiful evening party around the awesome pool and tropical grounds. The plantation house has an old Hawaiian feel with lots of rich history and is beautifully decorated. Lovely screened-in wrap around lanai to enjoy the gardens. It was wonderful to be able to just walk into the darling town of Hawi. The bedrooms are all clean and spacious. Enjoyed the large fully stocked kitchen and bar area. A very MEMORABLE EVENT WE'LL NEVER FORGET. Thank you!

Great, roomy house for big dinners, and playing with our grandson in all the rooms.

While the size of the house was terrific and the overall ambiance good, there was one serious issue: mold. All the windows upstairs(not cleaned) had pull down blinds and all (some more than others) had black fluffy mold. After I sent Keely, the property manager and Charles, the owner an email on our 2nd night stay(not what I want to do on vacation, hence the procrastination) she offered to have them bleached the next day, which is not the same as having them clean when you arrive. I did not want the mold spread over our things any more than what might be already happening. So I declined. I am familiar with mold in Hawaii as we have a 100+ year old house in Honolulu on conservation land on Mt Tantalus. It is a vigilant effort to keep it under control. It spreads on the surface of walls as was the case with the upstairs Hawi Plantation House. There was also some downstairs but not nearly as much. If I would have had another possibility of a place to stay, I would have left. I had hoped our son, daughter-in-law, and grandson who live about 30 minutes away would stay there, too. Because of the mold she would not. (and she is from an old Kama'aina family)

There were several things misrepresented. The online pictures are not current. When I wrote to the owner about how happy I was about the Mauna Kea Beach Club Membership that was on the web site as included with the rental, he said he gave it up. The fitness room was in a shambles as they were using it to store wood for a carpentry project which we were only informed of by the carpenters. My son spent several hours cleaning and organizing it so he could work out. The bathhouse for the pool was dirty and even though I included that in my email, it was never cleaned. Two rooms off of the kitchen were being worked on or they were just quite odd. The owner lives there when he's not renting it; his medications were in a small refrigerator in the master bath as with his frozen food and condiments marked in the refrigerator and pictures of himself on the mantle. There was a game room listed in the profile with pool table, foosball, etc. The owner's friends were staying in that building. (found that out again from the carpenters)

None-the-less we had a memorable stay, I think because we could laugh at the calamity and we were together. We walked to the farmer's market one morning. That and the swimming pool were so lovely. And it was an easy drive to our son's favorite surf spots. Hawi is still unspoiled.

Owner's Response: We brought in a crew of cleaning specialists who completely removed all the mold in the house. Previously we had an annual mold removal cleaning; now we will bring a crew every six months. All the house and site pictures posted on this website are updated and current. The fitness room has been removed. The bath house is a storage area for beach and pool supplies in which a toilet and shower was added for guest use without having to walk back to plantation house. The Hawi Plantation House is on the historic registry and was originally built in 1889. Over the decades, additions have been added making for a very special and unique guest experience. Yes, rooms were added onto the kitchen area, consisting of a built in bar area great for entertaining friends and family. Also, an open fully screened breakfast nook was added to eat while enjoying the beautiful garden surroundings. The Hawi Plantation House and grounds provide a unique wonderful experience available nowhere else.

The Plantation House was the PERFECT accommodation for our two family Christmas get away!

  • 5 of 5

The house is quite large which was perfect for our 2 family group of 14.

The house provides a spacious feeling which is very helpful for large groups.

The house is comfortable with a lived in feeling. It is comfortable island living - where neighbors visit - including roosters in the mornings.

The hot water was something I was concerned about with 14 showers happening most mornings - but a huge water heater provided hot water to all!

The kitchen is equipped with sufficient pots, pans, dishware, and glassware for a group of 14..

There are several eateries in the small village that are quite nice - great coffee shops as well as restaurants with delicious options including vegetarian options.

For our families, this accommodation was great. It's island time - Enjoy!

Great family space

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a fabulous time together at this property. The manager was very responsive when we had questions or issues. Great place to share family meals, time in the pool, as well as ‘alone’ time when needed. We would stay there again. We would add a lighted path to/from pool...ouch!

Wow! Our best vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

We have nothing but great things to say about this amazing spacious property in the heart of charming Hawi! The communication with both the owner and the property manager, Keely was top notch. They were on hand for anything we needed instantly. My family which included my kids and young grandkids stayed here as we were in town for a larger family reunion on a nearby ranch. The house has amazing character and it's charm has been preserved yet updated beautifully! There are so many comfy seating areas all around the home! Its very open so you can feel like you are in the center of things or quietly read a book in your own cozy area. We played lots of games (provided) and the laughter echoed throughout the property. The kitchen was obviously the hub for us and it was amazingly well stocked. It has a commercial feel with an 8 burner stove, tons of counter space and every tool you could possibly need. The owner was gracious enough to allow us to have large dinner for extended family not staying there one night and this house serves and soaks up a crowd beautifully! The grounds are stunning and private and roomy. Parking was super easy right at the house for our 5-6 cars. The pool with its own bathroom was a huge bonus and we gave it a good workout - it was warm and clean and our group really enjoyed it. The newer washer and dryer was a huge help and we were able to go home with clean clothes. Thanks to Charles and Keely for a wonderful stay in this beautiful historic residence. We definitely recommend this beautiful home to anyone who wants an awesome place to spend time with family and friends and we plan on coming back again in the future.

Wonderful Place!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for one week and had a great time. The house is big and beautiful and has a very pleasant aura about it. The property was great too with a big lawn and a big pool that was wonderful. Basically everything was big and nice here, lol! It's located centrally in Hawi, which on the other hand is tiny, but again a beautiful place though, so it was nice to be able to walk to the restaurants and cafe in just a minute or two. The owner was super friendly and helpful with our stay. We got along very well and we have nothing but good to say about him.

Even though the town was small, it felt very alive and the restaurants were great! Tons of people out in the evenings and mornings and live music at one place. It didn't feel like as small of a place as it actually was.

Can absolutely recommend staying here. I can't see how anyone would be let down.

Cheers,

M & E
