Hello from Jim and June. We have been coming to Captiva and Sanibel since we were kids. We both grew up mostly in Connecticut and always looked forward to those special times when we could travel to Captiva and Sanibel with our parents on vacation. Captiva really has it all for adults and kids as well. To us, it is the perfect place. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!
June and Jim Eschert purchased this house in 2016
We really discovered this property only recently when visiting Captiva and instantly fell in love with it. Direct access to a gorgeous beach, marina and dock area with room for a boat, beautiful pool and barbecue area - everything within walking distance and easily accessible. And that great relaxed island lifestyle - perfect!
A four minute stroll to the pool or marina and only a minute more to the gorgeous gulf beach! Across the street you have our marina where you can bring your own boat and dock it for free. And next to it is Jensen's - a Captiva institution. Stroll over and say hello, get some bait for fishing, rent a boat, get the latest fishing tips or take a walk out on the dock. Also right across the street you have Captiva Cruises - try the dolphin watch and wildlife cruise or take a ride to beautiful, unspoiled Cayo Costa for the beach and shelling. Or maybe a cruise to Cabbage Key or Useppa Island for a leisurely lunch and sightseeing. It is only a short walk to great restaurants - the unique Bubble Room or the Mucky Duck right on the beach - sit out on their beachside patio to watch the sun go down, sip a drink and enjoy the music. Or the Sunshine Seafood Café, Green Flash or Keylime Bistro - all within easy walking distance.
We just got back from a week on Captiva and really made a great choice staying at Jim & June's lovely house near the beach. We were looking for a quiet place where we could relax and enjoy a laid back lifestyle with essentials in walking distance and this was perfect.
First, the house had everything we needed. It has a great layout that allows for private space as well as a good-sized open living / dining area and lanai. The kitchen has all the basic cookware you'll need., but you must provide your own spices, oils, etc. There's a full bath on each floor, which is convenient. Each master bedroom has its own cable TV as well as the larger one in the living area. The wi-fi is speedy and reliable. Everything was clean and tidy and as described in the online information (one thing to note is that the trees are no longer surrounding the rooftop deck). It would be a great house for two couples who travel together.
The area was truly delightful for quiet relaxation. Everything on the property is well-cared for, clean and tidy. You can easily walk to several places -- a small library, a marina, the beach on the gulf side, the pool and tennis courts, restaurants, a few shops and a small (very pricey) grocery store. Buy your groceries at Publix just before you cross the bridge, or stop at Jerry's on the way to the house. We really enjoyed walking over to the marina in the afternoons to watch the pelicans squabble for fish while the cleaners were at work on the catch. We spent many late afternoons at the Mucky Duck listening to music and watching the sunset, then walking along the beach back to the house.
We found Jim and June to be very quick to respond to any of our questions, and American Realty folks were also very helpful.
What can I say ... we loved it!
This was a great choice for our multigenerational family vacation. The home is comfortable and conveniently located on Captiva Island. We were able to walk to the beach and to all of the island stores and restaurants. The swimming pool relaxing at the end of the day.
The bedrooms were the right size and configuration for all seven of us (two grandparents, two parents, three kids) with a bed to spare. The hammock/chair on the lanai was a great spot to relax with a book.
Thanks, June and Jim, for sharing your home with us!
We stayed for a week at the beginning of August with our family of 5. Check in was easy, house was clean and in good shape. The location is very close to town which is great and we also walked across the street to fish off of the Sunset Captiva dock which you get access to as a renter in the community (go buy shrimp for bait next door at Jensen's - they were great).
The beach is very nice as is the pool in the development - a bit small and obviously too warm this time of year but certainly sufficient. Grills next to pool easy to use and in good shape.
Only mildly disappointing things were wifi and cable were spotty in the house during our stay and the walk from the house to the beach, with the requisite chairs, toys etc is a bit of a haul though not terrible. Bed in downstairs bedroom might need some work - slopes to the middle so one is prone to rolling into the middle overnight. I'd probably opt to stay in a unit closer to the beach and further from town but that also means more expensive so that is a personal choice. Town is great but very sleepy - every bar / restaurant closes by 10pm every night (can be argued that is a good thing).
Love Captiva Island itself and would think we would come back again soon.
We shared the house with the daughter's family. It's four bedrooms, however one is the loft and two bedrooms are connected. It was fine for us with children, but would have been weird if we were all adults. We had a glitch with the wifi, it eventually got worked out and the bathtub/shower combo in Master did'nt drain, but it was fixed quickly. Nice to be able to walk to restaurants, beach and pool! Just a safety measure. Do NOT microwave the coffee cups, to warm up that cup of Joe. The cups, while they say are microwavable, burn the skin off your hand after a few seconds in the microwave. All in all, was a great stay!!
Spent a week here with my 3 kids and my parents. Plenty of room for all of us. The walk to the beach, to the pool, and to the majority of bars and restaurants (including the Mucky Duck) was very short and easy. An especially great feature of this house is the fully screened in deck with ceiling fans which allowed us to enjoy evenings outside without the annoyance of bugs. My family and I really enjoyed the house and made some great memories!
