Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1.5 Baths, Sleeps 4

Cub’s Cove may look like your typical log cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains. But while it offers plenty of down-home charm and cozy comfort, this 1-bedroom getaway also has more than its share of modern-day conveniences and luxuries.

For instance, it’s a sure bet that the original mountain settlers didn’t have a spacious hot tub on their porch from which they could admire the Smokies! That’s right: You can start your day watching the sunrise amid the singing of the wrens and warblers as you soak among the mountain breeze. Or you can end your evening in the tub with that special someone as you gaze up among constellations you never noticed back home.

There’s a jetted tub indoors as well, part of the master suite. When you return to the cabin after a day of hiking, skiing, rafting, or golfing, your tired muscles will really relish a long bath among the pulsing jets.

And let’s not forget about the pool table up in the loft-level game room—just the thing for a rainy day or a laid-back evening in—or the cabin’s internet access, or the satellite TV, or the DVD players… yes, it’s safe to say that the likes of Abe Lincoln wouldn’t recognize this log cabin!

The interior is decorated in pure rustic refinement. The wood floors and paneled walls perfectly complement the warm earth tones of the furnishings and accessories. The living room sofa is wonderfully plush for snuggling in front of the gas fireplace in its stone surround or for sprawling out to watch a movie on the 50” flat-panel TV. The sofa opens into a bed for 2—and quite a comfortable one at that, thanks to its deluxe memory foam mattress—so that Cub’s Cove can sleep 4 people in all.

If you think the sofa bed’s comfortable, wait until you glaze atop the king-size bed in the master suite. It's Simmons Beautyrest Plush Foam mattress may just give you the best sleep of your life; it’s also perfect for stretching out and watching the 31” wall-mounted TV or simply gazing at the towering trees outside the window.

The kitchen and dining area offers amazing views as well. Even the simplest sandwich will taste like haute cuisine when enjoyed at the dining table, which seats 4 and overlooks the front porch and the mountains. That said, the kitchen is equipped with a full culinary shop’s worth of appliances, cookware, and tableware, so if you want to channel your inner Gordon Ramsey or Alton Brown, you can. If you’d rather barbecue every night, you’ll love the outdoor charcoal grill. Perhaps best of all: Cub’s Cove even has a dishwasher—no need to waste precious vacation time scrubbing plates!

And if your idea of a vacation is not cooking at all, you’re in luck, because Cub’s Cove is only a 5-minute drive from downtown Gatlinburg. There you can choose from steak, seafood, barbecue, pizza… you’ll even find Tennessee’s first pancake house there, as well as an aquarium, mini golf, and a host of other attractions.

In addition, the cabin is mere minutes from the main entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with its hiking trails, historic cabins, waterfalls, and wildlife ranging from black bears to elk. Also conveniently close is the Gatlinburg Arts and Crafts Loop, an 8-mile trail of more than 100 galleries, studios, and craft shops offering everything from stained glass to chainsaw art, custom knives to pottery. And because Cub’s Cove is part of the Black Bear Falls Log Home Community, in the summer you can take advantage of the resort’s heated adult and kids’ swimming pools.

However you plan to spend your days, you’ll relish having delightful Cub’s Cove to return to. Don’t miss out: Make your reservation today, and start preparing for your best vacation yet!

Cozy Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Overall, the cabin was great and perfect size for what we needed. A few things that would be beneficial for future guests. 1). The game room where the pool table is located is a little small for the size of the pool table. You will have to get creative for some shots when your stick is hitting the wall. Do they make a smaller weighted pool stick for tight spaces? 2) The remotes for the TVs were not in their respective places. The remote for the bedroom was in the living room and once we found it it still did not work properly for the TV -- we couldn't change the channel. The living room TV we had not issues or problems with. 3). The towels with the jacuzzi tub in the bedroom were placed over the "on" button -- it was quite the task to find it. 4). The mattress cover on the sofa bed needs to be washed and cleaned as well. We could tell that it hadn't been and/or previous guests did not put the fitted sheet on the mattress. Outside of that it was perfect for our weekend getaway.

Owner's Response: Thank you Susie for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to share. Your input, as well as all our guest feedback is vitally important as we want all guests expectations to be met upon arrival. We apologize for the areas we fell short. We are working with housekeeping for a better placement of towel on the Jacuzzi tub and the mattress cover on the sofa bed. New remotes for the TV's have been installed. We appreciated you letting us know of idea of shorter pool stick and we can certainly look into that. We look forward to having you stay with us again on your next trip to the Smokies, giving us the opportunity to exceed expectations.

Great cabin!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here! It’s a small cabin but was plenty of room for two. Very clean, great view, and the bathroom was very spacious. The only downside to our stay was that there was no remote to the TV in the bedroom and we could not find it anywhere.

CUTE LITTLE MOUNTAIN CABIN

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this cabin for 10 days in the middle of September. Overall, it was a great place. It was clean, and, according to my husband, had wonderful TV reception/picture. The hot tub was lovely, and the view is great! The bedroom and bath are both more than adequate for two people, and we found the bed comfortable. They provide plenty of towels, and a washer/dryer combination. As someone else said, there are a few things that you need to be aware of if you stay here. First of all, it IS designed for 2 people. Yes, it can accommodate 4 (with 2 on the sleeper sofa), but in reality, it is small enough that I think 4 people would be getting on each others nerves after any length of time. Also, the utensils, dishes and pot and pans are really aimed at 2 people. I can't imagine trying to cook a meal for more than 2 people there. There isn't really any closet space ( the one closet in the home houses the vacuum, and extra bedding.) M y biggest complaint was the seating. There are 4 chairs at the kitchen table, but they are all hard wood, with no cushions. The sofa was very hard, so much so that I found it difficult to sit on for any length of time. That is the sum total of options for places to sit on the main floor. This makes relaxing in the evening rather difficult, (if you have short legs and a bad back, as I do), unless you intend to spend the ENTIRE evening out on the porch! Again, these are NOT meant as harsh criticism, but rather more of a FYI. If you are young, (and tall), you probably would never even notice. I did like that everything I needed was on one level, from the driveway to the living room to the bedroom. All in all, this is a charming little place to get away from it all!

Cub's Cove

  • 4 of 5

Our short stay in Cub's Cove cabin was very nice. The main entrance, windows and deck face trees and foliage with a pretty view, so you are not looking at roof tops. We enjoyed the hot tub and fireplace in the evening after day hiking in the park, dinner and sightseeing downtown. The cabin is very cute, nicely decorated, and has limited basic amenities as stated. If you plan on an extended stay, you would definitely need to buy extra things like toilet paper, paper towels, soap etc. The setup is comfortable with plenty of drawer and closet space, flat screen in livingroom and bedroom, and a radio in kitchen. The cabin was clean and well maintained. The cabin community, Black Bear Falls is also clean and well maintained. The development is conveniently, just a short drive to grocery stores, a large choice of restaurants and shopping. There are many different activities to choose from offering something for everyone. For our November visit we enjoyed the National Park, hiking and sightseeing, shopping in downtown Gatlinburg, Ober Gatlinburg taking the cable car to the top where did some shopping, rode the Alpine coaster and toboggan sled, and dining at several different restaurants in town. I didn't give 5 stars because of some things missing that I think important and are basic conveniences or comforts. Bathroom: needs a better quality showerhead for stronger water pressure and more streamlined water output. There are no hooks for towels and clothing in bathroom. Shelving is needed in bathroom as well for toiletries, as there is only small sink counter area and back of toilet to put things. Bedroom: my husband thought the mattress was too hard. We both agreed there should be more luxurious bedding provided. Livingroom: definitely time to replace the couch, which was hard and uncomfortable to sit on. Made me wonder about the pullout bed inside the couch. Loft: pool table is nice, but a bit too big for space and I guess can't be remedied. There absolutely needs to be more lighting such as table or floor lamps provided in livingroom and bedroom. In evening, when in hot tub there should be additional lighting that can be used that is not so glaring as the porch lighting. Overall, we enjoyed the stay, and I would recommend Cub's Cove. I added these comments only as constructive criticism. In my opinion, these small changes would add comforts and conveniences to help make Cub's Cove a 5 star ultimate retreat.
