About Jim and Sheila Avery
My childhood vacations always included passing through the area on our way to see family in Tennessee. We have always enjoyed the beauty and peacefulness that the mountains have to offer. After hiking the Appalachian Trail several times, we knew that we wanted a place near Gatlinburg. This cabin is our dream come true and we are pleased to share it with our guests. We only ask that our guests treat the cabin with kindness and respect, so others can enjoy it also.
Jim and Sheila Avery purchased this Cabin in 2015
Why Jim and Sheila Avery chose Gatlinburg
We chose Mountain Joy because it it is located just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg and the Arts and Craft Community, and yet it is tucked away in the mountain which allows for privacy. The roads are well maintained easy to navigate. Nice level parking with easy street access. We also love the level yard which offers a lot of room for outside activities.

We had a great weekend getaway! The cabin was perfect for us two and the view with the hot tub was very relaxing! The owners were great and responded back very quickly. Perfect distance from downtown Gatlinburg (10 minutes)! We will defiantly be back to this cabin!!
Comfy and quiet
The view of the mountains was wonderful, and the cabin felt very private. It's a short drive down a winding road to get to the main parkway, putting the grocery store within 5min. My wife and I spent 3 days doing some rather aggressive day-hiking, and found the hot tub to be a perfect way to loosen our aching muscles in the evenings.
The property is in fine shape. All our needs were met with regard to dishes, coffee maker, towels, and bedding. There were several notes left around the cabin providing instructions on various things: which towels to use for the hot tub, thermostat usage, etc. Some were welcoming, others less so.
We didn't see any bears as others had shared in the guest book - perhaps that's not a bad thing!
In all we had a great experience and would happily return to enjoy the fantastic view and comfortable stay.
Better than I expected
Sometimes you see pictures of a place that hide a not so great reality. Not so with Mountain Joy cabin. It was even better than it looked in the pictures. It was a true mountain retreat. The bed was very comfortable and the tub was so relaxing. The views were great. Everything about our stay was great!
Loved this cabin in the Smoky Mountains!
The view was wonderful, the hot tub relaxing after hours of hiking in the mountains. The cabin was clean, spacious and comfortable.
Great little place! Perfect size and location for a visit to the Gatlinburg area!
Was as nice as the pictures made it out to be. Patio and hot tub view were great looking over the Smokeys. Bed was comfortable, pool table was fun, and again, the location to downtown Gatlinburg was great. You could be there in no time, and yet there was a real feel of peace and quiet when you went up the mountain. Two of the four days we saw bears on our way home and it just made our trip that much more interesting. If we come back to this part of the country we would love to stay here again!
Wonderful cabin for our weekend getaway.
We loved our short weekend at this cabin. Very secluded location compared to most in the Gatlinburg/PF area. The view was amazing each morning while we ate our breakfast and enjoyed our coffee. Very close to lots of hiking, shopping, eating, and entertainment. Would definitely stay in this cabin again.
