About this property
Firepit & hot tub cottage near Shooks Run Colorado
Summary:
This 3-bedroom, 1-bath cottage is centrally located in a charming area of Colorado Springs, offering irresistible old-time charm in its “bones,” yet updated and furnished with an eye toward comfortable, clean modernity. Enjoy outdoor dining, plus a fire pit circle appointed with cushioned seating that invites you to stay a while. Walkable neighborhood close to the dining, shopping, museums and entertainment of Downtown. Super-close to parks, trails, awe-inspiring scenery & outdoor adventures.
The Space:
Brace yourself for maximum quaintness! This adorable Victorian-era cottage is a freestanding structure nestled behind a larger main residence with access from the main road and a pathway leading around to your private entrance.
Please be mindful of the home the grounds are shared with and enjoy your stay!
Two entrances with sweet covered porches open onto a pleasant side yard separated from the main house by a picturesque pergola. This is a historical corner property to be admired, accented by a stone wall and decorative iron fence. It will capture your imagination as well as your heart.
The cottage has been appointed with your ease and comfort in mind. While you’ll find yourself surrounded by precious original details, like paneled wainscoting and well-tread, cognac-hued floors, you’ll find that contemporary furnishings and décor have been carefully selected to make you feel at home, and the bathroom and kitchen are beautifully updated.
You'll enter through the far right front door leading into the eat-in kitchen, a bright, sunny space with an entire wall lined with windows that shed light over a center island/breakfast bar with stool seating for 6. Enjoy preparing at-home meals on the granite countertops, accented by a white subway tile backsplash, white cabinets, and chic modern light fixtures. A suite of full-size appliances stands ready to serve, including a refrigerator/freezer, range with cooktop and oven, microwave, and dishwasher. Make free use of the blender, coffee maker, cooking utensils and chef’s knives. A door opens from the kitchen onto a small covered porch and the yard beyond, where you’ll find an outdoor dining table with six chairs beneath strings of festive party lights – perfect for enjoying fresh-air meals in fine weather.
A cozy corner of the yard has been transformed into a fire pit retreat that is shared with the residents of 232 N. Franklin Street, encircled by high-end cushioned outdoor furniture, including four chairs and two benches. You’ll be tempted to spend long, serene evenings here, watching the flames illuminate the faces of those you love.
Off of the kitchen, you’ll find an elegant bath with sleek modern finishes, offering a combination tub/shower and a large mirrored medicine cabinet above the sink vanity. The opposite direction from the kitchen is the delightful living room with rich original woodwork, where you can kick back and watch TV from the 3-person sofa or a comfy chair.
A bright corner bedroom on this level is cheered by windows on two walls and a French door leading to a sheltered porch with charming café chairs, where you can share a quiet cup of morning coffee with a loved one. This room is furnished with a King bed and a freestanding clothing rack that accommodates both hanging and folded garments.
Upstairs, two additional bedrooms and a bonus room await to provide restful respite.
In the first of these, a desk and chair have been added for the convenience of any guest who may be working or studying during their stay. They are accompanied by a king bed, clothing rack, and an antique dresser.
In the second bedroom, an extra-special surprise awaits. A curious half-sized door is cut into the wall, leading into a “secret” room tucked into the peak of the roof. Here, you’ll find plenty of pillows, two hassocks, and a rug where kids can play or nap, or where grown-ups can retreat for meditation or yoga. Back in the bedroom, a queen size bed awaits, along with a clothing rack and a TV.
Hotel-grade linens are professionally laundered after every visit.

The Neighborhood:
Lucky you! You get to stay in a Colorado Springs neighborhood that people are clamoring to live in. It’s one of the oldest areas in the city, lined with friendly sidewalks shaded by mature trees, and homes with the disarming architectural charms of an earlier time.
We wouldn’t be surprised if you came to Colorado Springs to experience the rugged character of the Rockies and a variety of unforgettable activities in a stunning, wild natural environment – and you’ll get plenty of that. But we also know it can be a comfort to be close to conveniences, entertainment, and a sense of community, and that’s something you’ll enjoy when you stay here. Your cottage is situated on the outer edge of Downtown, giving you quick and easy access to plentiful dining and shopping options, as well as entertainment venues, museums, art galleries, lounges, breweries, and much more.
At the same time, you’re shockingly close to awe-inspiring mountain scenery and opportunities for hiking, rafting, skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, hunting, ziplining, fossil hunting, and more.
Some favorite outdoor destinations among locals and visitors alike include:
Bear Creek Regional Park East: hiking and biking trails, tennis courts, playground (12 minutes)
Red Rock Canyon Open Space: hiking trails, bike park (11 minutes)
Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center: breathtaking, 300-foot-tall sandstone rock formations, hiking trails (12 minutes)
Pikes Peak (a/k/a “America’s Mountain”: a must-see, standing a breathtaking 14,115 feet above sea level (21 minutes).
Get a rich sense of the past, and be completely and utterly present. It’s all possible and within easy reach from this endearing 19th-century cottage in Colorado Springs!
