A Creek Runs Through – House Rules & Disclosures

Cleanliness & Housekeeping

Our cleaning team provides a full disinfectant and sanitary clean before every stay.

No daily housekeeping is provided during your stay.

Linens and bath towels are provided. Please do not remove towels, linens, or any items from the house.

If you spill on carpets, sofas, or bedding, please clean it immediately. Cleaning supplies are in the laundry room. Excessive staining may result in replacement costs.

Water System & Conservation

We use mountain well water—clean, fresh, and safe for drinking.

Please conserve water when possible. Excessive use may trigger our smart water system (Phyn), which will shut off the water to prevent damage and could take time to reset.

Wildlife & Nature Disclosures

Welcome to the countryside! With our serene mountain setting comes some rustic realities:

Wildlife sightings (elk, deer, bears, coyotes, bobcats, etc.) are common. Always be alert and do not leave trash or food outside.

Insects and seasonal pests are a part of nature:

Miller moths may appear from mid-May to early June. LED traps and plug-ins are in place during their peak.

Cluster flies are common in fall, especially near sunny windows. Expect to sweep occasionally.

Field mice may appear in late fall. We have external and internal mitigation systems (plug-ins and traps). This is normal for country homes, especially log cabins.

Winter Access & Weather Notes

Four-wheel drive (4WD) is required in winter.

Snow removal in the community is slower than in town. Please plan accordingly and check weather forecasts.

You are booking a remote, high-altitude cabin, where response times for handyman or snowplow services may be delayed.

Fire & Smoking Policy

No fires of any kind are permitted on the property (fire pit, open flame, etc.) due to proximity to National Forest and high fire risk.

No smoking anywhere on the property—indoors or outdoors. This includes cigarettes, cigars, marijuana, and vaping.

If you smoke, this is not the right property for your stay.

Trail & Off-Road Vehicle Access

The Rainbow Trail is accessible by foot or bike from the property—no motorized access allowed.

Motorized access to the Rainbow Trail is available at nearby National Forest trailheads within a few miles.

ATVs, motorcycles, and side-by-sides are welcome, but must be trailered to designated areas.

ATVs are permitted on subdivision roads only for accessing county roads.

No off-road riding or ATV use on the property, other than driving up/down the driveway.

Cameras / Surveillance

This property has cameras outside facing all the entrances, driveway and backyard. There are no cameras or surveillance devices inside the property.

Safety, Security & Community Rules

The home is located in a private gated community.

Please respect all community rules listed in the cabin welcome book.

The community caretaker monitors for rule compliance.

Two fire extinguishers are available:

In the kitchen (right of dishwasher)

In the downstairs kitchenette (under the sink)

Lock all doors when leaving the home.

This cabin was perfect and so comfortable for my husband and I plus our four kids (one preteen and three teens). The hosts were so pleasant, communicative, and accessible though we didn’t need much after checking in. There was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space, and the kitchen was well-appointed so you don’t have to pack a thing! I wasn’t sure what type of weather we would get in early April and picked this cabin because of all the things you can do without getting into a car (family game room, koi pond, access to Rainbow Trail)! With the unusually warm weather we also were able to make a few easy day trips to the (day 1) Great Sand Dunes National Park, (day 2) Bishop’s Castle, and (day 3) the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Sanctuary / Garden of the Gods with plenty of time to enjoy the game room each night. Westcliffe is always a treat too and the local grocery is close by to restock often. It was great to see the kids put their phones and tablets down and enjoy the natural surroundings and a game of foos ball. I had picked this cabin because of all the things you can do without getting into a car in case we got snowed in and the cabin and Its location exceeded our expectations!

It was a quiet retreat, and you can’t beat the beautiful location. We had direct access to the Rainbow Trail and Lake of the Clouds. Conveniently close to the small town charm of Westcliffe. The property was lovely, spacious, and well equipped with a pond and a four-sided deck. Surrounded by Aspens. Communication with the owner was smooth. If you are looking for a quiet retreat in the mountains, book this cabin.

Beautiful cabin, relaxing atmosphere

The cabin is beautiful - the property is on about 4-5 acres and is very, very quiet - we sat on the deck and stargazed. There are so many aspen and pine trees - there is also a creek running on the land & a good sized pond. The cabin has everything you need to have a perfect getaway. We will definitely return - our little chihuahua was exhausted from all the walking :)

Beautiful and peaceful

The place was beautiful and so peaceful. It is a bit of a drive from the main road but you feel like you are in the middle of the pure nature. The house is fully equipped and comfortable. It has that log cabin charm but modern amenities. There were some issues with cleaning but Vanessa promptly addressed it and refunded our cleaning fee. She was extremely responsive and kind and I would recommend this place to my friends. One of our friends said it was her dream cabin. We all cooked, grilled and had coffee on the deck with the birds each morning.

This amazing log home is a dream mountain getaway! Completely surrounded by beautiful aspen and pine trees, it’s incredibly quiet and relaxing. Being there in later September meant the aspens were changing colors and were more vibrant each morning. The only sounds you’ll hear are the rustling leaves and the babbling creek.Every side of the wraparound deck offers a different view with comfortable Adirondack chairs, porch swings and picnic tables that are perfectly placed. We were also greeted by momma deer and her two babies that came through the property one evening and several other deer wandered through during our stay. The star gazing was absolutely incredible! From both the wraparound deck and the nearby Summit Park in town, we observed the most amazing night sky including the Milky Way!This was also the cleanest Vrbo we’ve ever stayed in by a long shot. The entie house was spotless and the kitchen was pristine and stocked with all the appliances and cookware you could want. From amenities to décor, Vanessa and Shawn have truly thought of everything. It feels like a home away from home.

Mini Family Reunion

This property was fabulous. Wonderful night sky as the homes are far enough apart and there are no outside lights to disturb the stars. That was so perfect. My husband and I had fun sitting on the front porch and relaxing in the chairs around the deck. The kitchen had everything we needed. The basement with the bunkroom had all the fun area and we were very comfortable there. The temperatures for the week were perfect and then the space was perfect. All the beds were so comfortable. The location was outside of Westcliff and we enjoyed being away from the noise and commotions. We tripped to Salida, Bishop's Castle, and other beautiful areas. So nice. The home would make a great destination for a winter vacation as well. Such a beautiful home.
