About the property

2 Bedrooms and 3 Bathroom Home with Ocean Views. Waling distance to the beach!

Our two bedroom - three bathroom- house is located above the town of Sayulita on Gringo Hill. This location is a 10 minute walk to the town square and beach - out of the noise and congestion of staying in town or on the beach. Our home has a panoramic view of the ocean from the upper sundeck. It has a pool and large veranda for relaxing and enjoying the cool breezes that Gringo Hill provides. Our home has a large master bedroom with a king sized bed. The master bath has a walk-in shower and a Jacuzzi soaking tub. The guest bedroom has two twin beds with a walk-in shower in the bath. There is a guest bathroom off the living room for convenience. Also, the sofa in the living room makes out into a full sized bed.

Our home has a completely furnished kitchen with very nice appliances. All dishware, cooking utensils, and accessories are of good quality. In the kitchen, you will find most items you need to cook as big or small as you like. Adjoining the kitchen and living area, there is a breakfast bar for informal meals or just to talk and visit while the cook is in the kitchen. Behind the kitchen, we have a laundry room with both washer and dryer.

Most of our guests, take their meals on the veranda where we have a nice all weather dining table and chairs. The veranda overlooks the swimming pool and gardens. On the veranda, you will find a hammock which is great for relaxing. There are also ample chairs for guests to relax and enjoy the views.

Our home is managed by Maria Jimenez. Maria is from an old and very respected Sayulita family and has lived in the pueblo all her life. Maria will meet you at the house and orient you. Maria can also arrange for fishing trips, a cook to come to the house, or a massage on the veranda. Maria knows everyone in the pueblo and is great if you run into a problem or emergency. She can also arrange for surfing lessons, paddle board rentals, or horseback riding excursions.

Our home has lots of "Gringo" amenities such as air conditioning in the bedrooms, internet, and a small safe in the master. The home is well maintained with nice gardens and palm trees for seclusion. As many of the homes on Gringo Hill have full time residents, we have found this location to be very safe yet private. If you rent a golf cart or have a car, we have a dedicated parking area on property with electricity.

About John Trice

I have traveled to this part of Mexico since 1969. As a young person, I surfed most of the Mexican Coastline from San Blas to the Guatemalan Boarder. My wife and I are still avid surfers and love Sayulita for its variety of waves.

John Trice purchased this house in 2000

Why John Trice chose Sayulita

When our son was 10 years old, I wanted to take him back to where his Mom and I had surfed as teenagers and he fell in love with Sayulita. Many of the kids he surfed with are still his friends to this day.

We choose Sayulita because if is close to a major city - Puerto Vallarta with all the creature comforts - but far enough out of the tourist zones to be a quiet family destination. This area of Mexico has be very safe for many years, which was a concern for us as we look for a home. Sayulita is still very safe and we enjoy surfing there when we can. Our son spent many summers there with our house manager Maria Jimenez and her family and still loves to get away to Sayulita when he can. We have all gotten into Paddle Boarding in the surf, so Sayulita is one of our favorite places to enjoy our new challenge.

wonderful house

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time visiting Sayulita. It had been years since we had been and things have grown in many ways. Still wonderful but a bit crowded. The waves are perfect for kids and learning surfers. Everyone is super kind and the food was great. The house was about a 10 minute walk down a hill so the walk back was tiring. We are a family of 4 with kids 10 and 7. They got used to the walk but in the heat of the day it was a trek! The pool was much needed! The house is very nice with ac in both bedrooms and a laundry machine and dryer which was key. The electricity went out 4 times which was a bit frustrating. One of the nights we slept without AC and it was pretty rough night for all of us but hey, we're in Mexico, not much to complain about! BUT, we would never rent a house in Mexico without AC. John was very kind and apologetic and did everything he could to make sure we were taken care of. I would stay here again for sure!

Beautiful and quiet little home on Gringo Hill

  • 5 of 5

We just returned home from an 8 day stay at this lovely home. We have 3 children ranging in ages 9-15 years old. John arranged for a cot to be set up in the twin size room for my 9 yr old and it was perfect. For our busy family it was really nice to have all of our children sharing a room and spending quality time together. The bedrooms were very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. The main door to the house opens the kitchen up to a small patio with a hammock, table for 8, and pool. We would open this every morning to see butterflies and listen to the morning birds.

We spent most of our time outside by the little pool, playing cards and listening to music at the outside table. John has little speakers that we connected to our phone.

A typical day for us was to wander into town either by foot or golfcart ( If you are with children or elderly that have trouble with walking steep stairs or an incline, I would rent a golf cart.) We enjoyed the exercise and the walk into town and to the beach. But there were evenings when the kids were tired from being at the beach all day and we would take the cart into town. It was nice to have the cart to explore the town and outside markets.

Once you are in town, Sayulita has everything you could ever need. We ate at the restaurants, but also enjoyed the fresh fish and meat markets and BBQ-ing at the house. John has a small BBQ and fish grill which was perfect for the nights we just wanted to be home.

The main beach is fantastic for learning to surf, which all of my children enjoyed. The restaurants on the beach provide shade and chairs as long as you are buying drinks or food which we did both and it was all fresh and delicious!

In conclusion, John and Maria ( a local woman who lives in Sayulita and works with John) made sure all of our needs and requests were met. They set up a ride to and from the airport, helped us rent the golf cart, set up a fishing excursion, and cleaning at the house. Maria is wonderful and we loved meeting her.

This house is perfect for older children and young teens. The house could be stressful for parents of any young children or toddlers as there are many areas where they could fall off of the small patio and near the pool.

With that being said... if you are looking for a quaint, quiet home to stay at while in Sayulita, this home checks all of the boxes.

Thank you John and Maria for everything!

I spent two weeks on this property with 4 other friends . It is a great location, easy access to the town and cabs back up the hill are 60 pesos. The house is comfortable and spacious. The pool is very refreshing and the rooftop viiews are spectacular. Hearing the ocean at night was an added bonus. The beds are very comfortable. The pantry was stocked with everything you might need. Washer and dryer on the premises worked well. Water was delivered, so no need to worry about catching montezuma’s revenge.

Mara, the general manager was extremely helpful and John Trice the owner, was quick to answer emails and was very helpful to our group.

When I return to sayulita, I will definitely stay here again.

Lovely property!

The pictures definetly don't do this property justice. The ocean views are spectacular and the pool is quite nice after the little trek up the hill. Definetly happy with the rental. It was perfect for our small group. Will definitely return to this one in the future! Thank you John and Maria for a memorable time and experience!!

Gorgeous home with all the amenities.

  • 4 of 5

This place is just as advertised: close to the plaza and the beach, quiet at night, and well stocked with all the amenities. John and Molly the homeowners are very responsive and their caretaker Maria is very helpful and available. We travelled to Sayulita with our toddler and we felt very at home at the Casa paraiso del Pacifico. The only downside to this place is the construction to adjacent properties in the neighborhood. It was noisy during the day. But it seems this is the norm in Sayulita right now. It is growing fast, and construction is happening all over town. I would definitely recommend booking this home. It was fantastic.

The Cove at Sayulita

Sayulita has a wealth of water activities. It has one of the most scenic beaches in Mexico with lots to do - or just to relax. In Sayulita you can paddle board, surf, snorkel, or go horseback riding. Due to the configuration of the bay, the surf is great for both beginner and expert. At the beach, you can fish in the surf or rent a "ponga" to fish offshore. The fishing is amazing!

There are a wide variety of beach restaurants, beach massage tents, and great shopping on the beach or a few minutes walk in town. At the restaurants, all seafood is fresh - most of it caught the same day! But, if you don't like your fish looking back at you, order filet's. The shrimp comes from up the coast and is always very good. You can also order lobster, which is one of my favorites.

Sayulita is a very safe family vacation. There are lots for families to do. One of the fun things is to rent a golf cart and ride around to see the sights. There are several places to do so in the little village.

If you are looking for night life, there are a number of bars that play both recorded and live music. Sayulita has a good variety, so there is something for everyone.

During the tourist season, December to May, there is an open air market where "hippies" sell a wide variety of hand made items including jewelry, soft goods, and souvenirs. There is great shopping in Sayulita and is is all very close to the beach and our home. While a car is handy if you want to explore or go into Puerto Vallarta, you do not need a car in Sayulita due to the size of the village and the location of all the things to see, which are near the beach.
