About Karen Draper
We are a Colorado family who have been vacationing in Mexico for over 30 years. We fell in love with Sayulita more than 20 years ago and were very fortunate to be able to buy our home in 2005. We are so happy to be able to share this magical spot with people from all over the world. Our Casa is our part time home and you will find it has everything you need to feel at home too.
Karen Draper purchased this House in 2005
Why Karen Draper chose Sayulita
Sayulita is a wonderful town and personifies all that we love about Mexico. It is so easy to get to Puerto Vallarta from all over the US and the short drive up the coast sets the scene for the vacation experience. We always feel a thrill when we turn off HWY 200 and make our way under the Sayulita welcome palapa. Less time is spent traveling and more time relaxing. When we first saw the house, we saw its potential, fell in love with the views and saw a garden transformed into a lush tropical respite. We have continued to work on the house since day 1 and our frequent repeat visitors love to see what else is new.

We had 8 women stay at Casa Del Cielo in February 2018. The stay was absolutely magical. The "Villa" is gorgeous and had plenty of room for all of us. It is supplied with everything that is needed. The caretakers are very helpful and always available. I could not recommend any place higher and more beautiful. We will probably return to stay again, Marsha
Marsha, We were so happy to hear how much you liked our casa.
Please do come back!
Karen and George.
Breathtaking view from the moment you walk in. Pool and pool deck set up to enjoy view waves and sunset. Fantastic open air kitchen with everything you need. Decor was well appointed. Perfect for the 4 couples we stayed with. We had as many laughs at the house as we did in town. Alma made us dinner which was great. We also grilled fish that we caught. The hill would be a challenge for anyone using assistive devise such as cane or walker, but so is Sayulita.
Our family of 5 (kids 15, 11, and 8) had such an incredible time in Sayulita! We loved staying at Casa Del Cielo - the open air concept made us feel right at home in nature with gorgeous views everywhere we looked. When we weren't out enjoying the fun of Sayulita, the kids pretty much lived in the pool and we loved joining them and also relaxing on the large patio in one of the many lounge chairs. There were so many options inside and out for us to relax and enjoy family time. The bedrooms were spacious and immaculate (we actually had too much room - we could have easily had another family with us). Karen was a joy to work with - not one single problem, but I imagine if one had arose she would've solved it immediately! We loved everything about this house and would highly recommend it (as long as you're prepared to either rent a golf cart or tackle the large hill - we actually enjoyed the sweat and burn from the hill and knew an inviting pool was our reward at the end!).
We love our house and love to hear that you did too.
Please come back sometime if you can.
Perfect villa for group tripping
I stayed with friends to celebrate our birthdays- it was absolutely perfect! We solved the steep hill problem with a golf cart rental and then taxis for the last two days. The owner, Karen, is awesome and was quick to respond to any questions or concerns regarding her beautiful home. Alma, Clementina and Jose Luis were sweet and helpful. Swimming in the evening, watching the fireflies and lightening storms in the distance was the perfect way to end our days. An amazing place to stay while exploring the village of Sayulita💜
Thank you Bree! It is so good to hear that your vacation was such a success.
We love our home and enjoy sharing it with people from all over the globe who share our love of Sayulita and its many charms.
stayed at villa may 13-20 house is fine but there is a problem with the sewage system one of the downstairs bath room's toilets got clogged up the first day the people in that room had no shower or toilet for two days. I called the house keepers could not get them to call back.so I e mailed the owner and she got them to come over and fix the problem. What they found was a tree root going threw the sewage pipe Jose managed to dig it up by hand the man is a machine he did a very good job but I see more problems down the road with this. Also the upstairs bathroom I was staying in the shower handles are in really bad shape I think it would be easier to solve a Rubik's cube then get the correct water temp. What the house needs a good walk threw and fix all the little issues like the chairs outside are all rotting out we had two chairs start to break as we sat on them .If the owner would put about a few thousand into getting everything fixed I would change my review to a 4 star. Oh I forgot they are building a new house right over the back wall hammers concrete saws start at 8:00 am everyday.
One of the things one learns soon after buying a vacation home in the tropics is that there is always something that needs repair.
And repair we do!
The sewage pipes have all been dug up and replaced within days of discovering the problem. There have been no further issues.
The fabric on the chairs around the pool was replaced and they were back in service on June 13th, before this review was posted.
We plan to replace the faucets soon which involves removing tile and re-plumbing some parts.
It is possible to adjust the temperature with some know how and patience. The Rubic's Cube is beyond me!
I am very sorry that the construction noise impacted our guest's enjoyment. It certainly takes away from the relaxation experience.
We and our wonderful caretakers wish only good experiences for all of our guests and will promptly fix anything within our power to fix.
Maintenance is ongoing as are small improvements we make as time and money permits.
This Sayulita home is our home too, and we love it and hope to be sharing it with happy renters for years to come.
Beautiful by day, extremely loud at night during President's week in Feb
We stayed at Casa Del Cielo during President's week in February. I do not recommend this rental during that week. There is a fair called Sayulita Days going on down the hill. If you are right next to the fair its a normal amount of noise but if you are up on top of the hill staying at Casa Del Cielo, you hear EVERTHING. We could hear the bottles break in the rock throwing game (which is really fun BTW). That sound was nothing compared to the music. Up on the hill there is nothing to buffer the music. It starts just as you want to fall asleep and it goes until 2am, except for Thursday night when there was a DJ who played music so loud it rattled the windows-no joke. This DJ played from 2am to 5am. It was awful. The house is very open, which is great during the day. It is a beautiful view, the pool even has a view. There is a lovely patio next to the pool to sit at and the big open indoor patio is a great place to relax. There are many comfortable chairs and lounge chairs to relax on during the day. Then at night that architecture collects the sound from the fair and amplified it into your bedroom.
I would stay at Casa de Ciel again but not during the week of the 20th of February.
Thanks for the review Amy. You are right; the Sayulita Days celebration is incredibly loud, not just at our house but everywhere in town.
We have neighbors who leave during that time.
I am glad that you enjoyed our comfortable home and I am sorry I did not forewarn you of this yearly assault on the ears.
Please come back at a different time of year.
