About Kathleen McPhail
Bruce and kathleen have travelled extensively around the world therefore they know how important it is to have a comfortable, safe and welcoming place to call your home when you are miles away from it! They are both business owners and grew up on Vancouver Island. Kathleen is a painter and you will notice many of her art works decorating the cottage. They both are avid hikers so can tell you all the best trails for hiking.
Why Kathleen McPhail chose Victoria
We love living in rural Saanich. We used to live in Victoria city for 20 years but then bought and built our house out here in 2002. Saanich is so beautiful, full of so much to do, hiking, wineries, beaches, lakes yet many interesting shops, pubs and resteraunts. We are still discovering new little eateries or exciting hiking trails! We feel our property is very special and hope others will enjoy its natural beauty as much as we do.

Quality constructed space with attention to detail in all areas. Lovely in all aspects
This is a purpose built space where no corners have been cut. Quality craftsmanship and materials are matched by the interior design and decoration. Lovely high ceilings and plenty of windows, yet privacy among the trees. This was the perfect space for us to prepare for our wedding day, find respite afterwards, and reflect on our big day.
Highly recommend this space for a staycation or anyone coming to town and tired of the hotel scene.
Felt like we were visiting Provence. Gorgeous cottage. Impeccably kept.

Wonderful cozy cottage in the woods
It was a wonderful place for our honeymoon. We loved the quiet setting of this home, and all the French doors we could go out to enjoy morning coffee. We loved the beautiful kitchen that allowed us to eat in and enjoy our time together. The bathroom had nice amenities including cozy bathrobes and a beautiful glass and tile shower with two amazing shower heads. Attractive French country decor with comfortable seating, a place to play music, and a formal dining room.
This place is a treasure!!
My husband and I had been boating on Desolation Sound and wanted to stay for a couple of nights near Victoria before we went home. If I had known how delightful the cottage is we would have stayed longer. The setting is lovely. The cottage is in the woods and it is serene, and also close enough to civilization. The proximity to Butchart Gardens, Sidney, and Victoria makes your stay convenient. There are also hiking, parks and beaches to visit. The real treasure is at the cottage. The building feels luxurious, with huge ceilings and windows that look out at different wooded views. The space is large and beautifully decorated. There are so many thoughtful touches that make the stay extraordinarily special. Food is stocked in the fridge. Toiletries are available if you need them. The linens are exquisite. There are outdoor areas for sitting and enjoying your coffee, tea or wine, all thoughtfully provided. The hosts are artisans, providing art and stunning furniture.
If you want to pamper yourself, this place is not to be missed.
Outstanding in creative artistry and natural beauty!
We found Kat's Cottage absolutely immaculate in every way. Kathleen met us upon our arrival and gave us a complete tour, including maps of her favorite hiking spots. We cherished our three days stay as we were continually discovering the artistic talents of Kat and her husband. There were so many sweet surprises that we'll leave for you to discover when you visit! We had planned to stay busy discovering the island but only visited the stunning Butchart Gardens and the nearby Butterfly gardens. We did eat at the Blue Poppy Resturant at Butchart but otherwise choose to eat at the cottage's French cafe table outside, enjoying the dappled sunlight, the precious birds taking their evening dips in the bird bath and the smell of beautiful roses. We were intrigued with the articles and photos detailing the inspiration behind Kat's Cottage. Everywhere we looked, there were artistic paintings with woodwork and furniture made by a master craftsman, Each detail was conceptually linked in this French luxury cottage. Our favorite day was just spent at the cottage reading, painting small watercolor flowers and just sharing treasured conversations. We slept long hours and woke up to the delicious coffee Kat had left for us. There was no need for the TV or CD player, or internet ... just each other and a beautiful cottage to share. We found it so hard to leave and wished we had booked this charming cottage for the week. Thank you, Kathleen, for sharing your dream cottage with us. We will be back one day!
