An architectural gem. Original design features of the house remain and combined with the spectacular view of the ocean, garden and forest combine to make this a very special property. The house has been carefully furnished to ensure a comfortable and relaxing vacation for couples or families. Fully equipped for a comfortable stay (linens, towels, kitchen supplies, kitchen appliances etc etc). Relax on the deck, the wood burning fireplace or one of the special seating areas located around the property on the walk down to the waterfront. Try fishing or swimming off the rocks, spotting eagles, seals and whales from the deck and waterfront. There are also all the amenities and activities (restaurants, museums, zip-lining, hiking, fishing tours, kayaking tours etc) available in Sooke and Victoria only a short drive away.

About Jackie Straughan
We came to BC with work, and fell in love with the island and the weather. We both enjoy hiking, biking and kayaking, and what better place to do all that than here.
Jackie Straughan purchased this Cottage in 2016
Why Jackie Straughan chose Sooke
Our work brings us all over Canada. (we splice fiber for the telecom industry ) My wife and I have seen some truly amazing places But they do not seem to compare to the AW inspiring views and feeling we get from the East Sooke house property. We hope you can experience it first hand.
What makes this Cottage unique
Rating from previous Guests Erlangen, Germany Great views in quiet surroundings We stayed there for twelve days and really enjoyed the house and the garden with all the variety of birds stopping by, the rabbit family living there and a deer from time to time outside the fenced area. The view over the bay is stunning each time of the day and we didn't get tired of it. We cooked every day, kitchen is well equipped and in good condition. Our son is 6 and the shorter trails had been ideal. Some nice beaches close by. Stayed: May 2015 Submitted: June 15, 2015 Source: VRBO

Private and well appointed
Everything you need, great private location, beautiful views. One of the rare rentals that actually feels like home.
Thank you for the great review, we are glad you enjoyed your stay :)
Charming property in private setting
Very comfortable and well-equipped cottage, with sweeping views from the deck over Sooke Inlet. We loved all the wildlife and the overall peaceful setting. The cottage is in tip-top shape, with lots of thoughtful extras. Owners were a pleasure to work with and really care about making guests comfortable. Would love to visit again!
Character Home with Fantastic View
What a wonderful stay! The home had everything we needed; the hosts were warm and gracious. Although we had no concerns, I have no doubt that they would have taken care of anything that came up. So much character to the home and the view over the bay is both stunning and tranquil. It was perfect place for my son, from Vancouver, and I (Sturgeon County, Alberta) to get together. The hiking in the area is great. Highly recommend this home to anyone who loves nature and likes an alternative to hotels. I have chemical sensitivities and Jackie, whose philosophies were already environmentally friendly was very attentive to my concerns. My only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer! I would definitely stay again.
Great weekend getaway!
Had a great time at Sooke House. We were very comfortable and had eveything we needed. What a great view with lovely gardens! Thank you Jackie and Rodney!
We enjoyed our stay very much. The house was clean, well equipped, in a great location for us and the view is great. We would considering a future stay at this location.
Wonderful. Clean. Incredible view. The pictures on VRBO do not adequately portray the quality of this house or the grounds. Pleasantly surprised. Good location. Close to the East Sooke Regional Park and Sooke Potholes. Kid's highlights. Trails and rock climbing. Wish we stayed longer.
The path to the water is fairly steep but manageable. The microwave is a classic. Although, I appreciated the challenge of figuring out how to use it. Would pay more for the convenience of having a couple kayaks on the property.
As a part of a temperate rain forest, the Sooke district has one of the mildest climates in Canada. Typically warm and dry in the summer, the weather is very pleasant. Winters are also mild with a good amount of rainfall and a rare snowfall. This pleasant climate can be enjoyed while hiking, biking, or horseback riding some of the local trails, or kayaking or sailing in the local waters of Sooke Basin and beyond. Quick meals, tasty food, unique tea houses or fine dining at a Restaurant, Sooke has it all. Or pamper yourself with a day spa. The Galloping Goose multi-use trail is 1km from the house, the Galloping Goose trail is a 60 km trail from Sooke all the way into Victoria. You can bike, walk, run, hike on the Galloping Goose trail East Sooke Provincial Park is ~ 5km from the house. There are over 50 km of trails in the park taking you through coastline and forest landscapes.
