Sleepy Getaway with Outstanding Breakfasts and Accommodations

I was looking for a place on Moloka‘i that was both inexpensive and in the drier western part of the island, close to the beaches, where my partner and I could chill for a few days before heading off to Maui (we just spent 6 nights on the Big Island). This place filled the bill perfectly. Karyl was our lovely host. She showed us our room, the Na Hoku, with a private adjoining bathroom (tub and shower). No one else was staying at the time (the other bedroom is on the other side of the bathroom, but if there were guests, they would have used another bathroom). The entryway to this suite of 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom can be closed off from the rest of the house, which includes a large open kitchen-living-dining room. Hawaiian music played as Karyl showed us maps and recommended places to eat and visit. We immediately went to the beach she suggested, and were lucky enough to find another beach that we shared with no one except the few giant turtles swimming in the cove. Paradise indeed! Breakfasts were sublime. Karyl made us macadamia pancakes one morning and a hearty island oatmeal the next. Both were preceded by lovely fruit plates worthy of expensive resorts, including fruits you may never have eaten, let alone heard of. Do try all of them. The chico fruit and egg fruit will blow your mind! We never felt uncomfortable for a minute. That's because Karyl is the perfect host. We had some lovely chats after breakfast, before heading out to explore the island and back to the beach. Evenings were peaceful, and Karyl recommended some local music and nature DVDs, which we watched as we lay in bed, exhausted from all the beauty this island delivers. Recommending staying here is a no-brainer. If you're allergic to cats, you may want to limit your time in the shared living-dining area, although the place was extremely clean. It also might be fun to stay here with another couple you like to travel with.

We stayed here for a week in September, 2011, celebrating our 29th anniversary. Tom and Karyl are the best host and hostess you could hope for! Their breakfasts are fabulous, from the fresh-ground coffee and beautiful fruit plates, to Tom's famous macadamia nut/banana pancakes. Their knowledge of the island is very helpful in planning your activities, and they understand and are happy to explain Hawaiian culture and customs. The bedrooms are comfy and private, and their front porch is perfect for "talking story" in the evening. We enjoyed our stay on Molokai, and we made some great new friends, especially Tom and Karyl. It took us 29 years to go to Molokai, hopefully it won't be that long before we go back!

We absolutely enjoyed ourselves on our first trip to Molokai, and much credit goes to Tom and Karyl for being so helpful, friendly and accomodating! It was our first experience staying at a bed and breakfast, so we were initially a little uneasy. But after our delightful and heartfelt experience, we would highly recommend their business to our friends and family. In addition to their hospitality, breakfast was delicious! We especially enjoyed the fresh fruits and banana mac pancakes with homemade syrup! Thank you for making our trip extra special and memorable. :)

Don't miss this B&B if you are going to Moloka'i! Tom and Karyl have thought of everything, from beach towels to a refrigerator for snacks. They are helpful with suggestions for activities, have a library with books about the island, and even lent us a map. The Na Hoku room was comfortable, quiet, and beautiful. The breakfasts were fantastic, with the touches that other reviewers have described. Tom and Karyl even prepared excellent vegan meals for me. Their effort made this a wonderful trip for my husband and me.

We had a wonderful stay at this bread and breakfast! Our room was beautifully decorated and quiet. We had our own bathroom with a little island style. The breakfast was a wonderful surprise every day. Our favorites were the baked oatmeal, banana/macadamia nut pancakes, and the Molokai sweet potato, yum! Everything was delicious and prepared with care. The fruit plate was a special treat each day. Tom loves to garden and decorates the fruit plate every morning with fresh edible flowers. Our hosts were helpful, giving us inside tips and suggestions. Tom knows all the current events and Karyl has read a great deal about Hawaii and both have lots to share. We enjoyed visiting with our hosts each day. They gave us a good recommendation about Hanae Goods and Grinds - the best meal we had on the island. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this B & B.

My husband & I stayed here January 30, & 31st, 2011. We put up with numerous feral cats outside our bedroom, fighting loadly every night. The bathroom arraingment for our room was poor. There was one bathroom fairly near by, but you had to go into the main living room to access it. It has a toilet & sink. The one with a shower, is outside by their cluttered lanai, & it has a sink, with a toilet. Not convient at all. I would not return. Not at all impressed. Their house should be tidier as well. Suzzie from Kansas City
Owner response:We were surprised to receive this review, as we have not received comments like this before. Unfortunately, someone "dropped off" a couple cats in our neighborhood. They were here for only a few days and disappeared. We do not have numerous feral cats in our neighborhood, but regret that these cats caused discomfort. We always explain the bathroom arrangement of Ka Mahina Room before a reservation is made, and the rate for this room is lower than for Na Hoku Room. We take visitor comments seriously, and are sorry that the guests did not enjoy their stay.

VERY nice accommodations and gracious hosts. We had a wonderful stay at this facility. Hosts went out-of-their way to be sure we were extremely comfortable & had a good time. The food was delicious and presented in an attractive manner....A quality experience on an island that is beautiful and remote. We would highly recommend!

Immaculate and very comfortable facilities! Tom provides an amazing breakfast and the fruit plate is a work of art. I ate several fruits I had never had before. He has a green thumb and I enjoyed his lush garden. Every night I star-watched! The Milky Way is clearly visible from one end of the sky to another. Tom & Karyl are fabulous hosts and I will recommend this place to my friends and relatives.

We wanted to experience both ends of Molokai, so chose this B&B for the first 3 days of our stay. Everything the other reviewers said is 100% true! The house was immaculate, the breakfasts to die for, and Tom and Karyl are the best hosts. They provided info for everything we needed to know and have an extensive library on Hawaiian culture. Molokai is a wonderful island for relaxing and enjoying nature's beauty, with no stop lights, no malls, and very friendly people. We would recommend Tom and Karyl's B&B to everyone. They are truly gracious and caring people and made us feel welcome and totally comfortable.

My wife and I along with another couple stayed at Tom and Karyls home for three nights. We were lucky to have perfect weather and perfect hosts. The pancakes were excellent and the tropical fruit plates were a work of art. The accommodations were great for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful sunsets. Tom and Karyls suggestions on where to go and what not to miss were very helpful. Highly recommended if you always wanted to visit Molokai and get away from the crowds.
