Experience a piece of California history! This unique 2-story home was originally the Arleta Park station of the Ocean Shore “Reaches the Beaches” Railroad. Now it is a cozy colorful artist's home with comfortable furnishings, hand-woven textiles, original paintings, and folk art pieces from around the world. There are three bedrooms (two with queen beds [one on ground floor], one with double bed), plus an upstairs sitting room with satellite TV, and also a small office upstairs. WiFi internet throughout house. The living room has a satellite HDTV and a designer wood stove (in addition to central heat throughout). The kitchen is large and completely outfitted featuring a classic Wedgewood gas range, and there are bathrooms upstairs and down.

The station house is in an extraordinary location bordering natural open space which extends from the property boundary 800 feet to the ocean. Enjoy breathtaking ocean and harbor views from western and northern windows. A 3 minute walk gets you to a spectacular 7-mile-long beach (see picture below). Beginning at the northern end of this property there is a 5-mile paved bicycle/walking trail along the ocean extending to the Harbor. Just north of the Harbor lies the famous Mavericks surfing spot, and just north of that begins the 2-mile-long stunning Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. To the south of the Stationhouse there are walking trails through 400 acres of open space populated by raptors, great horn owls, foxes, white egrets and other wonderful critters. Out the front door east it is a 7-minute walk to Half Moon Bay’s downtown Main Street.

Enjoy sunsets from the backyard deck while soaking in the hot tub. The deck overlooks a large garden with many varieties of coastal and flowering plants, all of which borders open space extending to the ocean. Let your well-behaved dog romp in our large enclosed dog yard with a pet-door access to the house.

Within a few minutes one has: Main Street shopping and excellent dining; two world-class golf links; a Ritz Carlton Hotel; hiking in the redwoods; bicycling, horseback riding and hiking on the bluffs above and along the beach; and surfing, swimming, kayaking, sport fishing, and whale watching. It is about 35 minutes to the southern and western parts of San Francisco and 45 minutes to downtown, the Marina, Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown, and North Beach. It is just 30 minutes to the San Francisco airport; 30 minutes to Stanford University, Palo Alto and the north end of Silicon Valley; and 30 minutes to the unique Ano Nuevo elephant-seal preserve.

What a charming and lovely home! Had a family reunion to celebrate a big (80th) birthday and absolutely loved the historic home. The owners have clearly spent many hours lovingly restoring this home and it shows. Appreciate all of the pictures of restoration and story behind it. Simple drive from San Francisco airport to HMB. The three couples in our party were very comfortable here and enjoyed all of the ammenities of the home. Fabulous views and very short walk to the Pacific. Lovely town with very friendly people, this home was just perfect for our stay. Fully stocked kitchen, plenty of linens and towels, full sized washer/dryer, great hot tub, comfortable beds, great living area with full view of gorgeous sunsets every night, beautiful gardens...I could go on. We all had such a great time and made some wonderful memories. Would definintely recommend this rental to anyone interested in Half Moon Bay. Just a fantastic location in a lovely, quiet neighborhood that was close to grocery stores, shops and restaurants. While none of us brought our pets, this is just about the most pet friendly town I've ever been to...a wonderful treat for a bunch of dog lovers. Would stay here again on our next visit to HMB!

Just As Described

Our group of 7 adults and 1 infant had a wonderful stay at this property. It was an easy and short walk to the annual Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival. The bluffs and beach are a short stroll to the west. The kitchen was adequately equipped for the meals we prepared there. The owner was a pleasure to communicate with and the rental transaction was smooth and professional. Our only recommendation for improvement is to upgrade the WiFi router. We could not get a connection on our laptop while sitting in the living/dining rooms. We could only get a WiFi connection when we brought our laptop to the upstairs office. This was not a deal breaker by any means, but it just meant we were not able to access on-line photos albums to show-and-tell with the group while gathered in the living room. Overall, this vacation property is a great choice for its unique and historic attributes. Its location in a quiet neighborhood and its proximity to the beach and area attractions makes this rental a pleasure.

Family and I LOVED this place!

My family and I stayed in this creatively decorated house in an absolutely beautiful and quiet neighborhood. It was big enough to enjoy our own space yet cozy and homey enough that we didn't want to leave. It met all of our needs from my 11 year-old son to my 79 year-old mother. Very neat and clean and I would recommend it highly for anyone looking for a home away from home.

This rental is absolutely charming! Our stay was perfect! Great location for our adventures on Highway 1. We so enjoyed this home and its character and history. It has been so well cared for and restored. We would highly recommend this rental. Our children are still talking about the beautifully colorful rooms, views of the coast and waking up and seeing horseback riders headed to ride on the beach. Loved our time here and hope to return soon!

My family of 7 found The Stationhouse to be an excellent place to stay, the location is great and The Stationhouse is very well equiped with everything we needed for a most enjoyable stay. I would very definitely recommend it to my friends, and plan to return. The owners were very helpful in arranging our visit and responsive to all of our questions.

We just had a small family reunion at the train station house and it was perfect. Great location, wonderful atmosphere and space to cook, eat, and gather. The grill, cookware and appliances allowed us to have some great meals. The hot tub is awesome and the neighborhood feels really nice. There is a great book collection too. We walked to the gorgeous beach everyday. The beautiful colors and paintings make it feel so good to be there. It is a really close drive to Purisima Creek hiking trails as well.

Great place to stay

We loved the station house!! The location was fantastic, the house was very cute, well decorated and I have never seen such clean windows. The house was very clean, not a speck of dust, which is hard to say with wood floors. The view was very good and sitting on the deck at night in the hot tub we could hear the waves crashing on the beach. I told all my friends what a great place it is!! The town is very quaint and we found lots to buy in the local stores.
