Location: Lake Placid, Adirondack Mountains, New York, USA (Located in Keene, 14 Miles East of Lake Placid on Rte 73)

Accommodations:  Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 5-8)

Random Scoots is located in Keene, NY, in the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks region. We have offered guided hikes in the region since 2004, and are now offering a cozy three bedroom cabin for vacation rental. Whether you are looking for convenient access to the multitude of activities and attractions available in the region or simply want a quiet place to relax and get away from it all, Random Scoots will serve your needs.

The Cabin:

Random Scoots Cabin (really a small home!) is over 900 square feet, including the main room (kitchen, dining nook, and living room), 3 bedrooms and 1 full bathroom. The third bedroom can alternatively be used as a large storage room set up to hold plenty of gear.

The bathroom is finished with v-groove pine walls and ceiling, while the remainder of the cabin features 12" wide pine boards on both walls and ceilings, resulting in a warm and charming interior atmosphere very much in keeping with the wooded setting.

The Property:

Our location, 1/2 mile off Rte 73 on a private road, is accessible yet remarkably quiet. Situated on a wooded property, the grounds around the cabin transition from a well kept lawn to open woods with maintained native ground cover to a managed woodlot, resulting in an open and inviting atmosphere. The location features spectacular views across the valley to Hurricane Mountain and surrounding peaks, with glimpses of Giant and Dix Mountains. Sound effects are provided by the gentle murmur of the Ausable River East Branch in the valley below.

The Region:

The centerpiece of the region is the Adirondack High Peaks, where hundreds of miles of foot trails provide access to the rugged beauty of the mountain interior. Outdoor activities in the region include hiking, snowshoeing, back-country and cross-country skiing, mountaineering, rock and ice climbing, trail running, wildlife viewing, flat water and whitewater paddling, hunting, fishing... the list goes on and on, limited only by your imagination. For those with less ambitious goals, or on rest days, Lake Placid and the surrounding region offer a multitude of relaxing and interesting attractions and activities. A sampling -

- Lake Placid: Home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games
- Tupper Lake: The Wild Center (Regional Natural History Museum)
- Blue Mountain Lake: Adirondack Museum (Regional Human/Cultural History Museum)
- Whiteface Mountain: The Olympic mountain is a short 15 mile drive.

Our Philosophy:

It is no wonder that generations of outdoor enthusiasts have been drawn to the rugged beauty of the Adirondack Region. Visionary legislation that established the Adirondack Park in 1892 initiated a tradition of conservation aimed at ensuring that this critical natural resource be preserved. It is incumbent on today's users of the resource to carry on that tradition. We at Random Scoots believe that by responsibly enjoying our public lands today we can ensure that the same opportunities will be available for future generations.

We further believe that development of the intimate and respectful relationship with nature that is so important to our future begins in childhood, and we strive to create a family friendly atmosphere, a comfortable and enjoyable retreat where parents can nurture this relationship in their children. In keeping with that goal our rate structure is designed to encourage couples and families. As a further benefit Random Scoots Guide Service offers reduced guiding rates to families.

Additional information, including guiding rates and an online PHOTO ALBUM, is available upon inquiry.

Random Scoots and Cascade (16Feb09): Random Scooter's cabin and Cascade Mt. all in one weekend. Does it get any better than that. I took my wife up to Keene to stay for the weekend at Random Scoots and we thought we would hit a peak on Saturday. It was her first trip to the Adirondacks and my second. The day was wonderfully sunny and temps in the low 20's. We started from the parking area at 8AM and reached the summit around 10:30. The trail was well packed and we wore snowshoes up to the summit rocks. The summit was amazing! My wife having never been on a windy summit before felt pretty vulnerable but was very excited. We descended back to the car with an arrival time of 12pm. If you have never stayed at the Random Scoots cabin, you're missing out. It was very warm and cozy with EVERYTHING one might need or want. • Random Scoots is a wonderful place! We had a terrific time; spent Christmas in the cabin, went for a hike, then came back and cooked a fabulous Christmas dinner right there in the cabin! We wish we could have stayed longer, but we will definitely be back very soon! The new enclosed porch was a godsend and we can't wait to see it finished! Tom is a very attentive and accommodating host, and he was sincerely interested in our comfort at his property. Forty-six stars for Random Scoots!

    • We stayed at Random Scoots in early October and had a wonderful time. We travelled across Lake Champlain on the sunset ferry and so arrived in the dark; in the morning sunrise the next morning we realised what a beautiful location we were in. The cottage is large, warm, comfortable and well-furnished. We found it was the perfect base from which to explore all the Adirondacks have to offer. We left entirely refreshed and relaxed. We just wish it was a bit closer to home!

    • We are very active retired folks and what a great place to spend a few days in the high peaks! The cabin is very clean and very well equipped with lots of places to store all your gear in all seasons. Excellent kitchen and comfy beds, and the washer and dryer is so handy. Tom is a great host and boy does he have experience on the "peaks". Last trip we hiked and paddled and next winter we're going up for some skiing and snowshoeing. GO TO RANDOM SCOOTS - YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!

    • Thank you for a wonderful week-long vacation. Your cabin is just perfect. The location, removed from the town and roadway yet very accessible with the views of Hurricane Mtn. is the very best I've seen in the Adirondacks after years of visiting the region. The cabin is spotlessly clean and very functional. The washer/dryer was greatly appreciated after a day of hiking as was the comfortable bed. Friendly and helpful owner obviously knows the region intimately and advised us on hiking trails, parking areas and views. 5 very enthusiastic stars from a guest who will be returning often.

The grounds are picturesque and well maintained. The host is gracious and helpful. And the area is just spectacular. The best bang for my buck in a long time. We can't wait to return! Thank you!

    • We greatly enjoyed our stay at Random Scoots Cabin. Invited our friends to stay with us, and they loved it, too. It's an ideal location for exploring the High Peaks region, but with all the comforts of home. The cabin has lots of nice features, like a small library of books about the Adirondacks (guidebooks, history, etc.) Just visited a couple weeks ago, and we're already trying to figure out when we can make it back!
