Walls of windows on three floors look out onto the lake. Four comfortable bedrooms; master bedroom has private deck and jacuzzi tub in bath. Open plan on ground floor blends indoor and outdoor living. Lower-level recreation room lets kids have space of their own.
Enjoy a long walk on the sand and pebble beach or in the nearby nature reserve. Curl up with a book by one of the two stone fireplaces. Sip a glass of wine on one of the decks and watch the sun set over the lake. Listen to the waves on the shore as you fall asleep.
The surrounding area includes a state park with beautiful sand dunes, scores of lakes and rivers for boating and fishing, horse and cross-country skiing trails, and two downhill ski resorts. Foodies can walk to the Good Hart General Store for homemade doughnut holes and pies (and a copy of the New York Times); drive to Pond Hill Farm for organic produce, humanely raised meats, and gourmet groceries; or strike out for Ellsworth's nationally known restaurant, The Rowe Inn.

Hope Cottage is everything as advertised, although much more. It has been years since I visited this part of Michigan, and the quiet beauty, expansive stands of pine and birch, and clear blue waters of Lake Michigan made me regret why I hadn't been back sooner. Be it winter, spring, summer or fall, it is a worthy destination. Thanks to the Owners of Hope Cottaqe for sharing!
