Built in 2007, this is a beautiful custom-made home tucked away in the high alpine valley of Ophir. The town of Ophir consists of about 250 people and 50 dogs; there is no commercial enterprise at all. It is a quiet place with a 'village' feel, and the nearest groceries and gas are down the road in Telluride and Mountain Village. The former mining town still retains its rustic feel, as the nearest paved road is 2 miles down valley, and nothing has changed in the surrounding 13,000 ft. rocky peaks. The hiking and backcountry skiing opportunities you can access out our door are literally endless, and in summer months, you can 4-wheel over the Ophir pass to visit scenic Ouray for a soak in its famous hot springs, drop into the historic mining town of Silverton, or perhaps catch the Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge train for a tour through the deep and impressive Animas River Gorge. The home is oriented toward the south, to maximize the solar potential streaming in through large windows. It sits high on the sunny side of town, on a corner lot, with truly AMAZING views.
The house is a comfortable 2,600 square feet on three levels. As you enter from the north, you'll come through a generous-sized mudroom to store all your gear for your many adventures. There is a half-bath in the mudroom. Through another door to the main living area; kitchen with vaulted ceilings, timber-frame construction to the south and east, sunroom and dining nook to the south, and a sitting area with 50' LCD and 3D flat-screen TV to the west. Upstairs is the master bedroom and master bath. The master has one king sized bed.The master bathroom has a shower. We have great water pressure, and with our water-softener, it really is a great shower. The walk-out basement level has two bedrooms. One has bunk beds. The other has a queen size bed. On this level is a full bath tub and shower, washer and dryer. The hallway and ceiling between the two bedrooms features climbing holds.
We have 2 boys, so there are toys galore, including a Wii gaming system, and a trampoline. Should you be bringing younger children, we can line you up with a very trustworthy babysitters who will drive to Ophir. The going rate is about $12 per hour.
As this is our only home, we can only rent to you during our vacations: weekends, holidays, and time off from school. Just email me for availability.

Great home with all the amenities you could want or need. Picture-postacrd views out of many windows, a great deck for grilling or just watching the clouds drift by. We love that Ophir is a quiet little neighborhood with friendly neighbors. This home is conviently located to several hiking spots in the area, but also close to excellent 4-wheel roads and just far enough away from Telluride that you really get some solitude. The owners are friendly and very helpful with any questions. Thank you for sharing your lovely home - our weeks stay was NOT long enough - but we did come away rested and relaxed! Thanks!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: We truly love the Telluride area. This is our dream house. We built it to maximize the incredible views, and take advantage of the solar power for light and warmth. We'd like to share it with others who truly want a memorable mountain experience. This is not our second home, it's our only home. It's not perfect. It is 'lived in'. It's not the Hilton, it's Casa de Rutledge. We hope that you will feel comfortable, kick your feet up, and feel right at home in ours. Cheers!
