These are two gorgeous architectural award winning houses in one, connected by a walking bridge. Nestled in the hills and meadows of Bolinas, this is a 3&1/2 acre estate of wide-open unobstructed views, deer, birds, gardens, oak trees, hills and meadows and fine architecture. We are located on Horseshoe hill rd., less than one minute from highway 1, 10 minutes from Stinson Beach, 4 minutes from downtown Bolinas (in the sun belt) and about 45 minutes from San Francisco. We are in the middle of some very beautiful nature.
The house is not like anything you've seen before and is custom built as is most of the furniture. (care MUST be taken).The property was and is known as 'Briarcombe' and was made well known as an artist-in-residency. It is a large house consisting of three bedrooms and two lofts for sleeping. (All the beds can sleep two/4 beds are queen & 1 is full size). Both house sections (bridge house section and the main section) are complete with full-operational kitchens and full bathrooms. Each have decks and each can be private from the other. Perfect for 2 families, etc. The main house section has a huge fireplace, a beautiful Yamaha baby grand piano and a wonderful (Japanese style) hot tub (just to mention). The bridge house section is multi-level and just too hard to describe. (Please watch the property video above). 2 bedrooms & 1 loft in main section. 1 bedroom & 1 loft in bridge house section.
The meadow is great for picnics (there are two picnic tables) and a full stage with electricity. There is also a really nice private basketball court among the oak trees.
The house is $750 a night in the low season (Oct -June) and $850 a night in the high season (June - Oct). There is a $250 cleaning fee for the full house. For events & weddings the cleaning fee is $350. There is a 10% tax on the rental amount.

(check the property video at the top if you missed it/the video does not include the gate house which is a newer listing).There is also a beautiful cottage rental (search 'Briarcombe' above)' on the other side of the meadow. If you are looking for something quite special and unique, quite different from the rest, Briarcombe is it.
We do charge for events (for example, bbq's, retreats, dinner parties and weddings) depending on the amount of people and usage. (We are not the place anymore for wild birthday parties or wild weddings and there are certain rules to be followed so neighbors are not disturbed and damage doesn't occur). That doesn't mean you can't have amazing birthdays and weddings here.
In general, for weddings and large events, the main house & cottage must be rented for a minimum of two days with a separate location fee of $3,000.00 for weddings of 50 guests or more (ask me for event rates). Rates are less for smaller weddings. The rental rates are not increased. There is no tax on the location fee (just on the rentals).The maximum number of guests for events on the property is about 100.
We can no longer have amplified music outdoors. Acoustic music is welcome.

Wow, what an incredible treasure Briarcombe is! Every nook, every crannie of this property is beautifully custom designed and carefully maintained with so much love! It was absolutely the most perfect setting for our group's 8-day meditation retreat. The beautiful energy of this house allowed each of our retreat participants to have the most nourishing and transformative experience possible. And we feel so blessed to have met Kevin, Megumi, and their phenomenal property manager Rozlyn, who cared so deeply about us having a smooth and supported experience. They attended to every detail, question, or request from our group - regardless of how big or small! There could have been no better place for us - so of course we are already planning to return to Briarcombe for our next retreat in 2013! If you are an artist, a writer, or meditation practitioner looking for the perfect environment for retreat, for contemplation or inspiration, look no further. This house is amazing! From it's quaint country charm to it's magnificent Zen architecture, this house has something for everyone! It's the little details that really stand out in this beautiful home away from home. Wash the city away in their cozy Japanese soaking tub. Make an amazing meal in the fully stocked kitchen, (a sweet surprise for me was finding their Le Creuset cookware! Tonight I'm staying in the loft with a dozen little windows and sky lights around me, a sweet little bird's nest of a room, private and positively zen-tastic! The decor in this house is so charming: Oriental rugs, beautiful tapestries, hand crafted cabinets. It's also very close to both Stinson Beach and Bolinas so if you'd like to spend a few days strolling around Bolinas and then head around the bend to Stinson for a few days, you can. Today I spent the day walking the beach and looking at shore birds, watching the seals, SEALS!! and I spotted some friendly Sea Otters the last time I was here. People in town are really friendly too! There's a sweet art gallery and a people's grocery that has Organic food and just up the street there is a Farm stand with lots of amazing fruits and veggies--and it's all on your honor.. You weigh your own food and leave the money in a wooden box! This place is too cool. Lots of room at the Briarpatch for fun.. A huge grassy area for the kids, basketball, pretty trees and flowers.. a great bbq for grilling, a lovely deck.. And it's sooo quiet! I could go on and on.. Thanks, Briarpatch! I feel totally renewed! We had the great good fortune to host our daughter's September wedding weekend on this phenomenal one-of-a-kind property. The accomodations are exceptional, the property, gardens, and views are rare and special. All our guests were enchanted and we have memories that will warm out hearts for generations. And to top it off Kevin is a dream to work with. We consider ourselves to be so lucky to have found Briarcombe.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

When my wife (new wife) were looking for a location for our wedding we never thought finding a place as perfect as Briarcombe would be possible. But of course, Briarcombe DOES exist! It had everything we were looking for. The houses were all comfortable, well equipped, and above all absolutely beautiful! The houses are architectural masterpieces and there are so many little special features that set it apart from, really, any house I've ever been in. We used the meadow for the wedding and the stage came in handy, as did the folding tables and chairs. There are multiple kitchens which allowed us all to prepare dinner without stepping all over each other. The location is easy to find and immersed in the natural beauty of Bolinas. Deer were steady visitors and hawks flew overhead, not to mention the loads of flowers and trees. I would highly recommend this place, it's magical, beautiful, and just absolutely amazing!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I recently have returned from an 8 day retreat in beautiful Briarcombe and have nothing but good things to say! The house is absolutely gorgeous! Incredible woodwork all throughout the house. Very well maintained and incredibly relaxing. This is a very spiritual place with much to offer for meditation, tranquility, and inspiration. We had rented all of the properties as a group and I had the pleasure to experience each individual house. It is astonishing how much care was taken into building this magical place! Fantastic location for any retreat. Spacious, clean, calm, close to nature - with enough beds to rest a small army! I highly recommend Briarcombe for any retreat, It was a amazing surprise.Recommended for: Girls getaway.

My wife and I held our wedding at Briarcombe on August 25, 2012. The setting is gorgeous and our guests were blown away by the magical beauty you can see from the property. The main house, bridge house and cottage were all great places for us and our families to stay. The property is also well-equipped for events, i.e. power sources, room for cooking and facilities, etc. One thing to consider is the slope of the main lawn where tables and chairs require some shimming to stay level - minor issue and it didn't detract from the event. And we can't say enough about the generosity and kindness of our host Kevin Bird. Thanks Kevin for sharing Briarcombe with us!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We can't thank Kevin and his family enough for quite an unexpectedly perfect gathering of friends and family. The magical part was the house and the richness of its history, beautiful upkeep and all the little touches that make a home so unique. A glorious setting, inside and out. Each of our four families had space together and apart. And the location gave us access to beaches and hikes in Point Reyes, Bolinas and Stinson Beach - what a combination. Our stay at Briarcombe was simply magical. We were a group of 4 adults and 6 kids - everyone had a wonderful and memorable time. The kids had many happy hours playing on the beautiful grounds and we, the adults, stayed blissfully transformed by the extraordinary serenity Briarcombe creates. The house is well equipped with excellent appliances and kitchenware, comfortable beds and linens, great films and music for the amazing a/v system. Each room in the house is unique and inviting. The owners are thoughtful and generous people who have considered every detail to make guests feel welcomed and taken care of. just back from a weekend at the property and am still in awe of the quality, attention to detail, and extraordinary house and grounds at this property. my friends hosted a post-wedding get-together, and it could not have been better. diversity of options (by adding on the cottage and bridge house), epic views, great and fully stocked kitchen, luxurious and immaculously maintained grounds ... seriously, like a fairy tale with the fog in the distance, and the valley and hill beyond, and the english style grounds nearby. i'm already looking for another excuse to stay here! : )Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We stayed with our dance company. Very relaxing as well as fun for outdoor activities. The house is so beautiful we enjoyed just being in it!
